Angel/Dust Neo

Both are based around an female android-like being(s) searching for the destined man who is the "One for Them." However, the main romantic interest android starts this quest with amnesia. They both have a slight ecchi edge & a harem feel to them. Chobit is an 8 vol series while ADN is only 1 vol.

Aa! Megami-sama!

Similar starting premises to both manga. Guy makes a wish and a goddess(es)/angels descends from heaven/future to grant it, create a contract & ends up living with him (Keiichi/Akito). There's a goddess/angel that's his true love who's demure (Belldandy/Marino), and a punchy pint sized one who's out to break up the relationship (Skuld/Muusha). There's also an older sassy sister (Urd/Akito's sister) and a competitive contractor (Peorth/Leia). The 'heavenly' magic is described as programming. AMG is a very long series, while ADN is a single volume.

Seimaden
add

Same artist with a love for fraught, unusual and sometimes twisted obsessive relationships. Both have the starting premises of protagonist being 'abducted' whist being 'rescued' by the love interest, Seimaden more literally while GC more technically. There's a similarity in the main pairing set up too - the protagonist is a naive character that the somewhat villainous love interest is trying to seduce. (Kind harded village dancer & demon king / Gently reared aristocrat & phantom thief). Both contain shounen-ai and - weirdly enough - an 'in the background' rape story. Please note that while Seimaden is a shoujo (Female x Male) with a secondary shounen-ai story, Gorgeous Carat is primarily shounen-ai.

Sex Pistols

Both manga have the same premises, but do something different with it. In both; After a strange occurrence a naive character finds himself drawn into a secret world where a human looking, but animal 'aligned' species evolved along with humanity. But the species has a slight problem - they don't breed well. Fortunately for the aggressive seme the uke happens to be an hybrid who is an ideal breeder...despite their protests of being male. Animal X has secret government organization, experiments, Yakuza and is in an old style of artwork. Sex Pistols is a school-life with more pretty shoujo artwork.

Denpa-teki na Kanojo
add

Both are thrillers with a stalker and mysterious murders with lots of psychological issues. Great artwork and some gore too. However, there are some big differences as Denpa Teki na Kanojo is a school life setting with a male lead & a harem theme to it as well, while Perfect Blue has a female lead set in the pop industry.

Xiao Qian
add

Both are cute movies suited for children that feature an ordinary person accidentally entering the spirit world. They focus heavily on the very traditional Oriental myths & monsters, but gives them a modern twist. Spirited Away is of a much higher calibre than A Chinese Ghost Story animation wise (Xiao Qian is kinda cheesy. The dub version is distracting as it's corny to the point of being comic and ruins the style of the traditional Chinese story, so it probably better to watch it in Mandarin). Xiao Qian seems aimed at a very young audience & had a much lower budget, so it doesn't have the wow factor of Spirited Away. Also, they both feature spirit trains and a domineering old lady boss (with an odd nose).

Unico
add

Both are very cute children's movies, but have the weirdness you sometimes get with 70's anime (despite Xiao Qian being made in '97). The story lines has nothing in common, expect they both deal strongly with mythos and have naive main characters. However, some moment resemble scenes in the different anime. For example - the main character having a moral standoff against a blustering 'antagonists' that turn out to be essentially good & becomes a friend, a female characters who's dreams seem wildly unrealistic & unsuitable to the protagonist (thought they decide to help anyway) and leads them into trouble, little moments of mischief that use the same slapstick or characters 'teleporting' to reappear in odd places. So I recommend them for the similar feel to them.

I had these films as a set when I was a kid. Both movies are from the same creator and feature naive characters going out into the world, making friends that are at first reluctant to know them and overcoming evil characters that at first appear pleasant (though not till near the end in Unico). They both have a bittersweet edge - Unico can not stay in any place for too long and is always forced to leave his friends behind and in the Mouse & His Child the toys are trying to become "self winding" and the Mouse & Child, originally being a single toy, are saddened by being broken & separated.

Liar Game
add

The main conflicts run like complicated cat & mouse games, with psychological strategies and out manoeuvring between genius characters. There are more puzzles in Liar Game, but Death Note does have it's moments. However Death Note is supernatural with an anti-hero main character while Liar Game is realistic with a naive girl/con-artist protagonist main pair. They have quite a similar detailed art style, though Death Note is more gothic.
