Eyesheield 21 is among my favorites. The style is unique, and I find it refreshing compared to many other manga. I enjoy how the charters are comical and the entire thing feels goofy and lighthearted, but each individual has deeper desires and motivations. Not everything is the power of friendship and happy, they are divided at times and do face consequences or criticism.
My personal favorite character was Himura. The different psychological tricks he used on the opposing teams kept me entertained, as well as his unhinged/random behaviors.

I haven't seen the movie first, or at all, so I had no expectations going into this story. I felt interested in what was happening the entire time, and despite it being short I felt like I was given a lot. Unlike in many of these sort of stories, his feelings for Rita didn't feel misplaced or forced, and the twists didn't feel obvious. Though there was an open ending, I wasn't unsatisfied or upset, I felt fulfilled and okay with it. I don't NEED a continuation, but if there was one I'd happily read it. It wasn't all that, people hype it up to where you think it'll be a absolute masterpiece with hidden meanings and exciting plot but its plain and average. It was okay at first but as i got deeper in the chapters felt repetitive and boring, I felt like I could be reading better stories. I may have judged it harshly mainly due to others reviews though, I read it and felt disappointed in what I received. What really gets me is the author tries hard to make it meaningful but all the lessons are so obvious that I feel nothing reading this, it's not funny
