I have absolutely no idea why this is rated above an 8 here, it isn't even average. So much is wrong with this show that I don't even know where to start. Let me just say at first that season 1 was enjoyable and set up something that could have been very good imo, especially on the note that it ended on. Season 2 however... Decided it did not want to be good it seems.
The single biggest issue with GWitch is the writing and pace. It introduces so much, so fast, and forgets to expand on it. This was not a big issue in
...
S1, because you could just fall back on the assumption that it will get addressed later. However, with each passing episode of S2 it becomes apparent that there is no intention of expanding on anything. It's answer for everything interesting is to give it an episode, then kill it or forget it ever existed and never mention it again. Gundam has lore dumps at the start, that's standard, but you get 50 episodes worth of time to get used to everything. Not here. It's loredumps of bloat, and it never stops. And then there's the issue of just making crap up because there needs to be a deus ex machina to solve everything. The latest of which being the tomatoes and Mio's mom, a person who never even got a mention uptil now, suddenly becoming all so important to the plot.
The characters are all unlikeable, even the main duo. Mio is stuck up and gets unstuckup in the last few episodes because the plot demanded it. Suletta is a weirdo mommy's girl and suddenly decided not to be one in the last few episodes because the plot demanded it. Both spend the entirety of the season not talking to eachother but are suddenly ok with it now that the plot demands it. I have no idea who the people in earth house are, besides Chu Chu (who is recognizable because of the stupid hairdo and the stereotypical angry girl persona), because none of them gets any screen time. There's the girl who was in contact with terrorists and the guy who ratted her out and that's....it? They never expand on that either. The interesting characters like that dude on earth or the Dawn of Fold girls, they just disappear or die. And then there's those toad ladies at Peil who hog so much screen time and have accomplished exactly nothing with it.
The Gundam battles are all flash and no subatance. A lot of effects thrown around but at the end of the day they all boil down to being any one of: Arial being overpowered and using cheat code turrets to win, Shadiq almost winning but losing at the end because of a cheap shot, Guel getting humiliated in some way. That's all. They haven't even given proper attention to any of the unique Gundam deaigns, something which is normally a staple of Gundam.
It really feels like a poor attempt at trying to make Gundam appeal to the masses, since it's garnered a reputation of being a boomer show over the years. Half the usual episode count, academy setting, yuri romance, flashy stuff, but somehow makes major mistakes in almost every department. I'm sorry but this is a bad show, I would not recommend it at all.
