The main couple of both series have similar personalities, and their relationship are not much different. Main female lead in both anime: Lose their boyfriends, want a new one, both are in love with a guy with black hair, and introverted. Main male lead in both anime: Like games (the Wotakoi one like otaku things in general, while the one in Yamada-kun only plays games from what was shown), both fall in love with a supposedly "outgoing girl" that is also interested in the same kind of things they like to do.
