Suisei no Gargantia...
I came into this anime with one red flag waving, Gen Urobuchi.
(or Gen Urobuch-er as my friends tend to call him)
Honest to god I came in thinking, "yup hes gonna die, and him, oh and that one too." That's just what we tend to see from him. And its fine, I have no problem with it, that's his style and he writes masterpieces, like Fate/ Zero, with it. Its just, every-single time I saw something potentially powerful, I thought to myself "thats the murder weapon." And in a way that style is still present, but I am shocked to say that
...
it was in a much more subtle way.
Without getting into too many spoilers I will say this is the lighter side of Uro.
The story is a pretty basic "outsider adapting to society" plot, with a bit of a mech and pirate twist.
It did seem at times the author bit off more than he could chew and that everything wouldnt be solved or that so many questions would have been left up in the air my brain would start nagging me while I try to sleep.
I dont like that.
Thankfully, there was a pretty dam good wrap-up of what needed to be answer with the right amount of space for a sequel if necessary, though I think its fine the way it ended.
There really isnt much to say about the animation, it was just beautiful, with emphasis on how fluid the battle scenes were. I was constantly left with chills after every explosion and even though I did say it was the "lighter side of Uro," thats like saying the lightest whale or the least rabid mongoose, there was plenty of action to get the blood boiling.
The character development was nice too. You got to see how "space boy", as they called him, began adapting to life and how he came to realize the faults of his methodologies.
The sound was top notch, bar none. I thought the sound track fit the scenarios very well.
In terms of enjoyment, it is something to be enjoyed. The story was unexpectedly light hearted, yet at the same time captivating. The fight scenes from the beginning phrase that started the conflict to end "farewell" statement (those who've seen it know what I mean) are the literal meaning of the word epic.
Some people may not necessarily agree with me at all, but when I talked to other people they said that they would have enjoyed it tons more if they just wouldn't have had that, "this is written Gen Urobuchi" mindset.
I recommend it

Every once in a while an anime comes around that is so well done you have an eyegasm after every episode, simply put a masterpiece......
yeah, this isn't really that anime.
From personal observations I've noticed that people who can't stand fanservice shoot down an anime because of fanservice. I find them to be more annoying and painful than bamboo splinters under my fingernails. I dont really understand why they keep watching, if thats the type of anime they hate with a passion, then why? Are they masochists? Are they closet pervs who just don't want to admit it? The fact of the matter is that if
...
you're against it this anime isn't for you, no need to keep reading. If you don't like ecchi, dont watch it!
Now onto the actual review.
The Bad
-the main issue with harems is the character development, this be no exception. The main character is the stereotypical average student with a now common "want to protect" mindset. I didn't really see much character development, however I, from my view point, did see some (I mentioning feel explaining would spoil) but I can't truly knock it down too much, unlike if it was to be a series with much more time in which i would have been pissed.
-I found the plot to be nothing really special and has a set up that I feel I've seen before.
-The plot did have its holes and unanswered questions by the end, with only a temporary resolution yet its not that big of an issue because they were things that could easily be answered in the second season, unless they explain fuck all in the next season, at which time i will pray the director's crab's get herpies.
-The setting, you guest it, a highschool, i need not go on.
-The animation was really nothing exceptional there is very much a lack of eyegasm in this sense as nothing really pops out at you except boobs and someone's boner if not your own.
-The music didn't leave ear bleeding, but was only slightly above good.
-I will say it. At times, the ecchi does get very excessive however I don't qualify that as an excuse to throw this in the crap pile, its not really that unbearable.
The good
-to redeem the setting itself, it did have some diversity because even though the title of the anime is high school dxd, i found the situations to have nearly nothing to do with high school. There is the clubhouse but they normally just meet and move elsewhere from there. I just found it to be more of a building/base than an average school.
-The comedy (probably a bit bias here) was the type I find funny, I am very much the type to appreciate a sexual joke, don't give a dam if Im called a perv at least I dont hide it, but there are some other mixed in.
-Idk if accel world made me realize this but I did notice that the chicks in this anime don't just magically fall in love with him left and right, which I find to be preferable. The ones that do fall for him are ones that have a reason to after some connection between them and it doesnt happen with every fucking girl.
-There were some action scenes that coming into the fight gave me chills and that "shits about to go down" feeling we all love.
The unexplainable
From everything gathered it would be guessed that this is just a regular anime with not much to offer as with average animation, sound, plot, ext. However, the fact of the matter is this anime is on my favorites list to this day. Why? its obvious I'm aware of its flaws, then why? truthfully I can't explain it.
Looking at it from a reviewer's perspective this is just an average anime.
Yet, looking at it from an average viewer who values enjoyment value above all else, I truly loved it. Idk maybe its just im more indecisive than Romney, but I found it to be enjoyable as fuck. This anime just has that "guilty pleasure" feel. Its the kind of weird shit that if people were to come into my room I would switch to porn, because that is just so much easier to explain. So many people I know bash its flaws, yet can't wait for a second season. I went through this shit in a siting and was glad I did.
The verdict
Overall I give this anime a rating of guilty pleasure that through its flaws is just inexplicably addictive.
I recommend (unless ur allergic to boobs and ass and life)

Okay, lets get this out of the way, the artist made hentai before; there i said it.
This anime is actually one of my favorites and i dont care if people call me a fucking perv because of it, fanservice doesnt bother me what does is when reviewers take of points to a great anime (my view point) because the creator is thinking with his second head.
Zombies are something that isn't really marketed well in the anime network. Most people say that the story is unoriginal to what is seen in everyday american tv.
a group of people surviving as a team and trying to escape
...
death while certain primal and savage instincts kick in, i.e. people having sex, people killing each other, people having sex while killing each other, ext.
The originality compared to other anime, however, is as ironic as getting hit by a dodge. ITS TECHNICALLY ORIGINAL IF NOBODY HAS EVER DONE IT.
with the lack of zombie shows it is arguably an untapped market along with werewolfs, real fucking ones not just chicks with dog ears and a tail. It was very suspenseful at the end of each and every episode leading me to watch the entirety of the show in 1 sitting, all six times i rewatched it.
The opening just appealed to me in an orgasmic sense, but thats just pure preference.
now onto the art; even thought i have already said it there are boobs.
................
okay yea thats a bit of an understatement but still unless you are too young for boobs or it just for some reason bothers you like if 2 foods on your plate (anime and porn) were to touch then this is not for you.
The art is actually not bad at all with very detailed, actually some of the best, backgrounds i have ever seen.
Character development within the group is not perfect but its well done for a 12 episode series. The group dynamic consist of: the leader, the bitch girlfriend, the bad-ass chick, the brains, the gun geek, the mascot, and the medic. I will admit that most people will just say: the leader, boobs, boobs, boobs, NUEERDD, loli with her pet, and boobs^2
If you have been paying attention then u have realised that this is actually one of my favorite animes and while some might wonder why, ill just tell you, its very fucking enjoyable. enjoy-ability is the whole reason i watch anime so of course something so enjoyable to me that everytime i rewatch the series i have to leave my day clear to finish it in one sitting is one of my favorites.
I honestly think this is an outstanding show and if some would just look past the matrix-like, physics fucking, dividing-by-zero type boobs and fanservice, you might find yourself really enjoying yourself.
I recommend

I found this anime, Speed Grapher, a fairly refreshing change of pace from a lot of the turds in the anime pool now a days. for the first half it was a thrilling and genuinely shocking if, like me, you didnt bother with the synopsis and checked it out on good faith that you'll find a diamond in this beach full of rhinestones. The plot has its holes, like why the hell the main guy was the only one who had a limit on his powers (you'll see what i mean) while the rest just went bitch crazy. character development is beautifully executed in my
...
opinion, whether it be the story behind the main character and his camera, the main bad guy and his sister, or the parents of our main heroin, all nicely thought out i believe. its not perfection but better than just having some average looking ass unrealistically fucking and cheating on/with 7 different girls (*cough* school days)
the sound track is also very fitting. It added what most scenes needed.
Art had its moments nothing really extraordinary.
Enjoyment I give an 8 and in my opinion this is the important one, I watch anime to be entertained more than just watch pretty pictures. I enjoyed the legit suspense at times, it was fun observing the characters change, the story had its holes but nothing too outrageous taking away from it all. the story does slow after bout the half-way point but nothing so bad that you sit there wishing the writers's crabs get herpes like in some other animes.
It was enjoyable.
if you have the time, i think this is worth a peek. I recommend it.
