Honestly I'm slightly surprised nobody suggested Samumenco yet? When I look for recommendations, I don't want to find a series that feels like a carbon copy of the other one. I want to find one that shares the aspects of the show, that made me like the series. YOI and Samumenco couldn't be more different and at the same time, I'd wanted to inform fans (especially of YOI) about the other series. Let's be blunt. The main reason why I've been recommending Samurai Flamenco to a lot of YOI fans lately is because both handle canon LGBT themes, without applying to the shonen ai trope. Whereas YOI is way more explicit and focused on this, you could eventually give Samumenco a shot too. Just don't be disappointed if you expected a Victuuri 2. But honestly, reducing these series to the ships would be injustice on both sides. They have so much more to offer than just two characters of the same character being in love and yes, there are also similarities between those. First of all, the characters in these series aren't you're average teenagers you get offered in most anime (all of them are in their twenties). Both Yoshi and Yuuri have a passion for something, that they seem to give up. Their passions are extremely different, yet at their core, you could compare them. The appearance of the second main character, influences their views on their own dreams drastically too. Oh, and both of them can be described as surprising. The way they surprise you is very different tho. YOI offers you an unexpected amazing writing, while Samumenco switches gear and genre literally every episode. And there's the character development. YOI has a way more realistic tone, but, both of them offer nicely developed characters. When I finished Menco, the first thing I noticed how well the mains grew as characters throughout the series. Again. These are not incredibly alike. But as I said, when I look for recommendations, that's not the thing I'm searching for. I always try to suggest series where I can imagine you'll like them if you like the other one. So give them a shot!

Episode 7 of both series convinced me to make a recommendation. If you're looking for something with a similar story-line or genre, I suggest you skip this one. YOI is sports and slice-of-life, while No.6 is is some kind of dystopian scifi action anime. However, when I watched YOI, I felt a familiar vibe and at first I couldn't really point what anime this reminded me off, till I scrolled past No.6. Both series have a heavy focus on the relationship and tension between the main-characters. Imo, No.6 was the only anime I knew, who found it's place between 'gay baiting' and official Shounen Ai, but I have the feeling Nezumi and Shion will have to share their spot with Victor and Yuuri from now on. The (black-and-white) main characters, have a very really close relationship, with heavily implied romance. Yes. There will always be people who still refuse to see the romance, but it's very hard to ignore the romantic vibes in both relationships. YOI is still airing, but I am pretty sure Victor and Yuuri will end up together, in some way. Both series give us some nice character development too. In the beginning the main character (Shion and Yuuri) seems dependent and inferior to the other one (Nezumi and Victor), but as the story continues, both of them, as well as their relationship, starts to develop into a very interesting interaction between the main characters. If you like non-shounen ai series, that still have romance in their relationships and if you like nicely developed characters, be sure to check the other one out.

B-Project: Kodou*Ambitious

Out of all series, I highly doubt you will find something as similar to UtaPri as B-Project. I mean, B-pro's character designer, drew the UtaPri manga and they share some voice actors. Then... Why isn't it the no.1 recommendation? Well, B-project is fairly new. And I hope by the time you're reading this recommendation, it's already the most recommended series. Okay. So B-Pro and UtaPri are pretty much the same, but at the same time they aren't. Let's say these stories share a same core. Imagine both of them are the same type of cake, but with different toppings. So the main similarity is that both series are about male idols, with a female main character as main. She sort of manages the groups in her own way and it's up for debate whether she's likable or not. That's the cake. The topping is the way the characters are introduced, portrayed and how the story is filled. Every episode will focus on one specific character. However, whereas UtaPri takes a slower approach to introduce the characters, B-Pro just sort of slams all of them in your face during the first minutes of episode one. UtaPri also seems to have more of a 'main storyline' as we have Nanami's school life and her love Hayate. B-Pro is more slice-of-life orientated and takes an easier approach on that. Both series take a lot of mainstream 'reverse harem' tropes, putting down a cast with very stereotypical characters. I don't know if it's because, back when I watched UtaPri, I saw a smaller amount of shows, or if it's something other people can agree on too, but the characters felt less predictable. In B-Pro's case, their actions, personalities and conversations sometimes even gave me this 'Dèja-vu' feeling. The amount of romance in UtaPri is significantly higher, too. And better paced. And there wasn't usage of (sorry to use this word) shitty CG (at least in the first seasons). Then again, B-Pro seems to focus more on the aspect of being an idol (f.e. showing how a song gets recorded, the characters doing their first live, recording a commercial, ...). Even though I think UtaPri is generally more likable, I think you should definitly give B-pro a shot if you're looking for something similar. I've seen that La Corda D'oro is currently the number one recommendation for UtaPri and honestly, I think it should be B-Pro. So. Long things short: - Male Idols - Same mangaka (at least, B-Pro's character designer, Utako Yukihiro, drew the UtaPri manga. The character designs from UtaPri are by Kurahana Chinatsu) - Similar music style - Beautiful art - Catchy songs - Great voice cast - Also some voice actors in common: Ono Daisuke (Kira and Kitakado), Morikubo Showtaro (Reiji and Hikaru, also note how they have a similar personality too) and Toriumi Kousuke (Cecil and Sakutaro). - Characters that give off a similar vibe? Whether it's Ai and Aizome's similar name and design, Ranmaru and Goushi's similar view on things, Hikaru and Reiji who, as I said, share a voice actor and personality or just a common name like Mikado.

Before I get started, I wanted to apologize for my bad English, and warn for spoilers (small ones though, there’s one major spoiler, but I’ll type it from right to left (‘siht ekil’ instead of ‘like this’) so you can skip it if you want , I’ll mark every spoiler by putting it between these brackets -> /// Anywaysss, first of all, the main characters are pretty alike. Not only their looks (blond hair, green eyes), no, they have way more in common. Both of them are rich/nobles, who live with their uncles and servants in a huge mansion. The servants, Kevin and Gilbert, are extremely devoted to ‘their master’, to the point that both of them seem a little bit obsessed. You could say their appearance is kinda similar as well (not extremely though), taller/older than the main character, black hair, and so on. ///They also seem to have a sort of ‘kinky’ friend/brother (Michael and Vincent) that knows more about their past and have an influence on them///. While watching the show, you’ll get the feeling that Gilbert and Kevin could help to solve ‘the riddle’ if they’d speak up about their past. There are also lot’s of common points in the plotline. Both stories start with our main character being dragged in another dimension (hell/Abyss), with demons/chains, where they meet their ‘supernatural sidekicks’ (lame way to call it ikr) Alice/Dantalion. They form a contract and turn back to the normal world, after that the story starts to develop itself. Both Oz and William have a special power without knowing themselves ///and both of them are the reincarnation of an ancient ‘hero’/spoiler/ .nosrep siht nwonk evah ot mees stnavres riehT / /// The show has the same vibe, which is really logic since the setting is sort of same. Looking at the cast, as far as I know, they don’t have many voice actors in common, there’s Ishida Akira, Toriumi Kousuke and Fukuyama Jun. At last but not least. Both anime stopped at a random moment in the story line while the manga continues lmao. Sorry, I had to say this, since I’m really disappointed about that. I hope both of them get a season 2 one day, because I have the feeling story started to get really good after the point where the anime stopped.

I’m going to try to compare very much things in both shows. So maybe it’ll look like I am searching similarities too far… Anyways, sorry for my English... Let's get started... So. Both have (how could it be else), their main focus on sport (swimming and basketball). Even though Free! is more slice of life and KnB is more fixated on the real sport, they have very much in common. First of all they both have a nice, enjoyable art style, with characters, considered as beautiful (it's all a matter of tastes though, but I hella like all of them). Both of them tell a story about a team that’s trying to ‘achieve’ something (and let’s not forget that both teams were not really ‘spectacular’ before the main characters joined/formed the team). There’s this rivalry between old friends, that used to be in the same team together. Also, something that I noticed was the fact that they’ve ‘theme names’ (yeah, idk how to call it), what I mean is… ehm, the Free! characters all have female names(Rin, Rei, Haruka, Nagisa and Makoto) , while the generation of miracles have all color-themed names (AOmine, MIDORIma, AKAshi, KIse, MURASAKIbara and KUROko, let's not forget NIJImura and MOMOi). Both have a great voice cast imo (even though they don’t have many va’s in common, there’s Shimazaki Nobunaga and Tatsuhisa Suzuki). Oh, and there are lot’s of similiarities between certain main characters? Lot’s of people seem to compare Rin with Aomine, because they once worked together with the protagonist and are now are rivals, but I think Rin and Taiga have a lot in common as well. Both used to live in a Western, English speaking country (America and Australia), in the second season, one of their childhood friends pops randomly up (if I am right, but I might be mistaking, they even had both an injured arm, shoulder and wrist), they both seem to be rude and arrogant at first and their colorsheme is similar. For the other characters… I think you can compare the protagonists Haruka and Kuroko a lot? Because both have a calm, introvert personality, maybe even a little weird. Their voice type is the same and their expressions, such as deadpan faces are sometimes similar as well. The biggest difference between the two of them is that I have the feeling that Haru is taken too serious, by having literally almost everyone kissing his feet, while Kuroko is lot’s of times mistaken as a bad basketball player. The other main characters have less in common but I think you could compare Kise’s rather friendly personality a bit with Makoto his? Only a bit tho. And let’s say that the megane-guys are both a bit weird, haha. But still… I wouldn’t say there is a amazing similarity between those. Oh, let’s not forget there’s a stroking similarity between the High Speed (Free! novels) characters and certain KnB characters. Serizawa and Murasakibara, Ikuya and Tatsuya, Asahi and Akashi… Even their names… Just look at this piece of fanart (http://static.zerochan.net/Free%21.full.1715331.jpg ) and judge for yourself. Oh, and both have lot’s of shippings… I think the biggest difference between the shows is that KnB focuses way more on the sport itself and is sort of more serious. The cast is waaaay bigger then Free theirs and honestly the characters are better developed. KnB takes the time to introduce you to other characters that aren’t the main team, while Free! focuses 90% on Haruka and his relationship with the other (ex)teammembers . I’d say, watch KnB if you’re searching for someone with a ‘deeper’ plot and if you feel like watching a 26+ episode anime. Watch Free! if you’re more looking for fanservice, a ‘lighter’ storyline and just something to relax. I don’t think one is better then another. Some people say KnB is too slow and boring and others say Free! is too rushed. It’s all up to you. In the end opinions are different… I preferred KnB, but as I said. That’s all a matter of taste.

- Kids used to live in a peacefull city - The main characters are siblings + childhood friend - The 'trigger' is the death of the mother (and wow, they look similiar and they even have the same Voice Actor) - Even though the father is alive, he seems to be absent in the beginning. Both dads have a similar appearance and they seem to be involved in the 'mystery' (titans/alchemy) - There's a focus on military - Almost the same amount of blood/violence/gore - There are also some strong female characters, without fanservice - Both live in a westernized world

First of all: They got the same 'vibe' I can't explain what this vibe is, but when I started watching K, DRRR!! popped up in my head immediately. Both anime show a simple, naive heroine, that's a bit odd, somehow (wow bad sentence, I'm sorry for my English). Each episode the plots gets deeper and deeper, and you'll start to see connections between the many (yeah, both have a huge cast) characters. Both of them have the same setting: A big city with different groups of people (Clans and gangs). Sometimes the artstyle and characters look a bit similiar (especially Izumo and Shizuo). Also, even though there's a main character, there are many viewpoints and different storylines. All the 'little' plots are confusing, untill they get together at the end as one big plot. So let's say this short: Many characters, in a huge city, rivaling (colored) groups and fantasy.
