Brothers Conflict is an anime that in my opinion, never stood a chance beyond episode three. It follows the main character Ema Hinata, who we only ever really know as Chi. I didn't actually discover her real name until the very last episode. And even then, i never once thought, 'what actually is the name of this girl?' Nope i guess i was too busy trying to survive what has been one of the most disappointing animes of my life. What might have been exciting to reverse harem lovers, turns out to be...
Story:
....A story thats shallow and unrealistic.
So what this story is trying to make
...
us believe is that a seventeen/eighteen year old girl was able to seduce 13 boys regarded as her brothers all by sitting there and looking "cute". Though throughout this anime my opinion of cute and annoying have been dramatically redefined. Chi/Ema offers nothing to the story, she rarely does anything to actually seduce these boys and does nothing when they start falling at her feet. What we experience throughout this anime is the progression of love, awaiting the response to the many confessions this girl receives.
Art:
....Art that has nothing to say for itself.
The art was just your typical modern day anime art. Mainstream and unremarkable. Good quality yes but engaging or interesting, no.
Sound:
....Music that that will make you cringe.
I have never rated sound badly in an anime before. Before writing this i had no idea what it actually meant to have bad sound, i mean what could be wrong with it? This anime however has shown me. If you actually attempt to watch this anime you will be plagued by a series of cheesy renditions afforded by one of Chi's superstar brothers, and if that wasn't enough, just to make sure you don't go away disappointed, at the end of every episode is a traumatising song in which all the brothers sing and dance. Never again do i ever want to experience what i went through here.
Characters:
....Characters that have no soul.
You have the brothers. Some who like basketball. Some who like video games. One who is a superstar and another who is a transvestite. Just your typical everyday family. All of the brothers however, despite their likes and clothing preferences make the same cheesy moves on the main character Chi and then expect us to be surprised when the grab her by the arm and pull her against them for a dramatic and passionate...hug? Yeah, that all your really gonna get. A lot of hugging and not much else. The main character Chi or Ema is the most disappointing. This girl has no depth to her on any level. What we see of her is a boring girl who rarely makes a sound other than the occasional gasp when one of her brothers makes a move on her. She never objects to any of the things her brothers do but would rather stand there like a deer in headlights without any input what so ever. Yep she has been one of the most annoying characters of a the many shows i have seen, a conclusion i largely put down to her defenceless persona and stupid disposition.
Enjoyment:
This anime doesn't really amount to anything. Its got an unrealistic story that never evolves, run of the mill art, traumatising music renditions, characters with no depth or personality and an ending which renders all of these events pointless.
But by all means go ahead and watch this anime, it not so much terrible and as a big lump of boring that never improves or evolves.

Boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai NEXT. Well, I have seen both seasons of bokusuku and after finishing this one I would say I liked it a lot better than the first season. In this season I think we get a much better understanding of the characters and what the story is all about. In the first season I feel the story was lost and the "we have to prepare ourselves for the world of friends" aspect was just an excuse for the writers to make up situations that added no real value to the show's overall theme. Bokusuku NEXT however was, I'm glad to say,
...
much more focussed on both characters and story.
What I keep asking myself as I write this review is -"what would I want to know if I was considering watching this show", well I guess I would have liked to know that this anime really explores its characters, showing us their flaws and struggles as the show progresses. That it focusses alot more on young love and a fear of love than the first season did. I also thought that bokusuku NEXT was alot funnier than the original too and I put this down once again to the familiarity we gain with the characters.
Lastly I would ask, "would I recommend this anime?"
For slice-of-life lovers I would have to say yes. For comedy lovers, also yes. For people who are just in it for the fan service I would say yes again because it rarely isn't present (also something you may want to keep in mind if you're not comfortable with that stuff), but for any other people, people who like romance or drama or harem, I would say no. This anime, in my opinion isn't really main stream. Its not going to please everybody and not everybody is going to enjoy it. For a final statement I would have to advise that apart from the genres I listed before, comedy, slice-of-life and ecchi, this anime has little else to give.

After completing this anime I was left with this simple and undeniable view. That this anime is nothing short of "a wasted opportunity." What could have been an interesting, thought provoking and emotive concept of high school life, friendship and young love was, I feel, ruined by the poor execution and over enthusiasm of its creator.
At first I found this anime very relatable, as it dealt with the struggles of love and trust. However, as the show progressed these emotions were replaced with annoyance and aggravation as the endless twists and turns of the story, morphed it into a complete joke.
In all honesty
...
this anime was over worked. Even in the very last episode there was no real shape to the story or characters which both shifted and changed from minute to minute. This, instead of adding depth to the story, destroyed the aspect of reality, its major redeeming feature and made the whole plot considerably unbelievable.

When I first started reading this manga honestly I though it was pretty bad. It starts off as the boring "someone saw me do something weird and I'm in a lot of shit" cliché, but then suddenly after about the 7th or 8th chapter the story completely evolves and takes a completely different turn. At about this time the story stops focussing on all the weird stuff going on and shows us the the effect it has on the main character, Kasuga.
This manga really messes with your head and you even find yourself being able to relate to some of the feelings Kasuga experiences.
...
Being different, not fitting in, messing up and not knowing what to do.. as the reader you get to experience all these things and watch as the characters evolve and the situations change to the point where you wonder if they're still sane. And once you realise this, you begin to wonder when it happen, and how exactly things turn out the way that they did.
This manga always keeps you on edge. And I completely agree with some of the other reviews saying that this is a really fast paced manga. Something happens in every chapter and by the time you reach its end you are already turning the page for the next one. At times it can get weird, or disturbing and at other times its down right disgusting! But even so it completely sucked me in and by the end it just left me feeling a little disturbed as well.

Biyaku Cafe is a very subjective manga. If your after a manga with and amazing story and in depth and relatable characters, I'm afraid this one falls short. However this manga series is comprised of a number of individual short stories which are not always so trivial. In fact the stories within this series range from the absurdly ridiculous to the especially sad. I would not recommend this manga to many people, only perhaps, to the readers of the genre who are willing to appreciate the story for what it is, without analysing and criticising it's fault. This is a manga that isn't meant to
...
be taken seriously but rather enjoyed. But in the end it is what is and there is no need for excuses or explanations, the fact of the matter is you'll either like it or you won't, and thats entirely up to you.

Now I know I'm going against the grain here compared to all the other reviews and it's true at first i was a little skeptical about this anime as its not really my style but that soon changed about halfway through the first episode. I admit that some people might find it weird or just plain disgusting but I urge you to renounce all prejudices you may have against the seinen genre, so you are able to enjoy this anime to its full extent.
The Story is probably this anime's weakest point, but that is by no means saying it is bad. This anime, I
...
am glad to say is one which is actually believable, there is no sign of ridiculous superpowers or impossible things happening for no damn reason. its just an interesting, relate-able and hilarious story.
Story:8/10
The Art is great, and I am usually a super tough critic when it comes to art in anime and manga. I have a sneaking suspicion that this artist and Sword Art Online's are one in the same- but this is totally uninformed...(so no judging)-
Art:10/10
The Sound?.... good i guess...
Sound:9/10
Characters in this anime are amazing! i love every single one of them (mostly...) I would have to say that this is the anime that has made me feel every single emotion and love every second of it, and that is owing solely to the characters and their reactions to the situations they find themselves in.
Characters:10/10
This anime makes me so happy. I can honestly say that I spent most of it with hugely unattractive grin plastered across my face. This anime is hilarious, one of the funniest I've seen and I class among one of the top 5 anime's I have ever watched.
Enjoyment:10/10
Overall this anime is outstanding. I would recommend it to everyone so long as they are willing to get past all the seinen and ecchi stuff and give it a chance. I haven't really seen many animes in this genre before but now that I have all I want to do is go out there and find another just like it.
Overall:10/10
