The story in general is sweet, funny, and becomes more captivating as it progresses. You get to see two young kids fascinated by arcade games turn into rivals, and from that build an unexpected friendship. A relationship with plenty of turbulence. They both strive to keep pace with the ever growing gaming industry, but most importantly, to keep pace with one another.
The romance, which is simple and very linked to video games, only becomes a more prominant theme further into the show. The characters fit well in the plot, though there might be some generic personality tropes and you might get mad at the MC
