I was hooked on this from the very first episode, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, and it kept me interested throughout the series. However I do have some minor grieviances.
The story is very interesting, it's an idea that makes you stop and think 'I wonder where they'll go with this?' A touching tale that displays good character development, wonderful blossoming friendships and a wonderful mystery factor. It incorporates ideas that I wasn't expecting to see together, and they worked it very nicely. What I didn't like was that there was a big build up (albeit a rather slow moving one) and it didn't come
...
to anything, I realised at about ep 20, that they were either going to do a really rushed ending, with everything just furiously stuffed in, or they were going to leave it up in the air, the latter being the case. It seems like they were going to continue with another season, yet nothing has come of it. So I found that rather irritating, because there was so much emphasis on Teito finding is path and following it so he could discover the truth and resolve everything, yet by the end he had only just begun to walk his path and it leaves the audience with all the questions they believed they were going to find answers to.
The art I enjoyed for the most part. I thought the characters looked great, they tend to give a slight feminity to some of the male characters, but not so much that you begin to get confused between the genders. I think it works well with the characters they chose to use it on, as it seems to match their more gentle personalities. I loved the bishop's uniforms, I thought they were very unique and suited the aura of the church and it's followers. I also liked the military uniforms, although these weren't quite as unique. My favourite thing about the art, was the architecture, I thought it was absolutely wonderful, such grand designs, beautiful and inventive, it might just be me, but I thought I saw some influence from ancient Greek and Roman architecture. The church architecture in particular, seemed to perfectly fit its role in the anime, it gives off an air of purity and safety, a place where people could easily feel welcomed and loved.
What I didn't like about the art was the battle scenes and especially the location for the final battle. In the battle scenes you don't get to see each opponents movement or attack, they only show you the final result of their attack, or you only ever see it from one restricted angle, which made the battle scenes slightly annoying to watch, because I felt like I wasn't really getting to watch the fight, more trying to glimpse pieces of it. They don't really show the damage to the characters, they keep it slightly out of view, and you only know what happened via shadows, sillouettes or a small glimpse of blood. The location for the final battle was absolutely atrocious, after all the great architecture throughout the anime, I was expecting something no less than spectacular for this battle, but instead I got what looked like a mish mash of previously used ideas, drawn badly. It honestly seemed like they couldn't think of anything better so they settled for that.
The sound was probably what I loved most about this entire anime, the whole soundtrack was superb! That's an understatement really, so many stunningly beautiful choral and orchestral pieces that perfectly reflect the tone of the anime. In particular the lyrics for the Raggs Requiem and Aka no Kakera (the opening song) seem to tell the journey of Teito, they are a pleasure to listen to and all of the music is very touching, reminding you of scenes from the anime. It is beautifully composed and played excellently. This is one of my favourite anime soundtracks.
However, despite the less desirable qualities of this anime, I can't deny the fact that I absolutely loved it, and it has left me desperate to read the manga and is now one of my favourite animes. I would highly recommend this anime, if (and I stress this) you plan to either, follow up with the manga or can deal with a 'up in the air' ending.

What I like about this anime is that, the romantic story is one of the most realistic ones that I've seen. It's not a fairy tale type anime, but yet it still tugs at your heart.
Quriky and original, you could see this anime being someone's actual life. It's fun, funky and a pleasure to watch.
With tons of fashion, drama, and interesting characters, this show doesn't have a boring episode.
I wasn't a fan of the art in the beginning, but it grew on me as the anime progressed. I think it perfectly suits the tone of the anime, and the characters themselves. Bright
...
and quirky! Two words that perfectly describe everything about this anime.
The ending wasn't at all what I expected, but it was very fitting, it is realistic and makes sense, considering what had happened throughout the show. It left me satisfied with the conclusion.
It's short, but I think for the story line, a longer series would have dragged and lost the wonderful upbeat momentum. I don't think it would have really been able to go anywhere had it been longer.
The dub is fairly good, most of the voices match their personalities very well.
If you want something light and easy, but enjoyable to watch then I would recommend this!

I had read so many raving reviews, both in magazines and on the internet, about this anime series, so when I found the boxset on sale, I was so excited. Boy, what a waste of money!
The story seemed really interesting, and I had high hopes for it, however I think it was poorly executed and leaves the audience wondering when the real story is going to begin. The characters lacked depth, and they were boring to watch. I literally had to force myself to finish this anime, in the hopes that at some point it would redeem itself, no such luck. The idea itself was

great, but they didn't meet the level needed to make the show fantastic.
As others have mentioned, it leads you to believe that it is going to be a touching romance, but instead it is just downright depressing and a task to watch.

The story line was interesting and imaginative. However during most of the film, it seemed like the story was about Ashitaka, instead of San, but this is easily overshadowed by how the touching story is, the characters determination, their admirable maturity and good natures. It holds some wonderful symbolism about rebirth, the power of hate and family, each one leaving a powerful message to the viewer and leaves you contemplating the ideas it puts across.
What I didn't like was that often, the conversations between the forest creatures sounded corny and overdone.. but this is possibly the dub, (I couldn't find a subbed version
...
that worked on my computer).
The art was absolutely wonderful, bringing a new interpretation of spirits and life that I had not seen before, colourful and mesmerizing, it really worked well within the film.
I did enjoy this film, however I had extremely high expectations and it wasn't quite as good as I had hoped, nontheless, it was a wonderful experience and I would not only watch it again, but urge others to watch it aswell.

WOW! What I write about this anime isn't going to do it justice.
It's a funny realistic slice of life. The characters are relatable and highly amusing. Whilst watching this anime, I felt as if I was reliving my high school years.
I think the fact that there isn't a very focused plot line (just loosely follows the characters through their years at school), makes this anime what it is. Alot of people have a problem, when there's no goal to reach by the end of the series, but I think this anime superbly displays that you don't need a specific story to have a

great show, just everday life is enough!
The art work is adorable, but bright and funky at the same time. The OST's whilst simple, work really well within the anime, they perfectly reflect the characters personalities and the situation at hand.
I have watched the series twice and certain episodes three or four times, and it just doesn't get old. I honestly don't laugh out loud at that many animes, but this one got me chuckling.
I highly recommend this anime, I know alot of people who don't like it, I believe it's one of those shows, your going to fall absolutely head over heels in love with, or you just won't get it at all. If you cherish how special and amusing every day life is, then you must watch this anime!

I absolutely adore this anime!
It is such a touching beautiful tale. The characters are relatable, lovable and highly amusing. They draw you into their world and take you along for the ride. This story really hits your heart, and I cried so much watching this.
I love the way the characters develop throughout the series, and as they progress and reach their goals, you can't help but cheer for them.
I think the art is wonderful, so bright and smooth.
The opening and ending songs are perfectly fitted to this anime, both wonderful songs that tie in with the characters and plot.
I would recommend

this anime to anyone, I believe it is a must see! You can't watch this and not feel moved in some way.

I enjoyed this anime for the first 20-30 episodes, however after that I felt it went downhill. The story line was repetitive and unimaginative, the silly twist at the end, which turns out not to be a twist, seemed like a pointless desperate attempt to salvage what was left of the plot. The characters experience that same problems over and over again, without any change or development. At first I found the characters lovable and amusing, but as the anime progresses, they become more and more tired and frustrating. I unfortunately couldn't find many subbed episodes, and I'm not a massive fan of Michelle Ruff's
...
voice acting, so that was off putting. The art work wasn't the style I'm interested in, however I loved the tennis scenes, and thought the art in those moments was superb. I only finished this anime, because after all that time spent watching it, I didn't want to leave it up in the air. However it is predictable and boring. I had hoped for a little more energy and variation.
Overall, not an anime I would recommend.
Edit: I wasn't a huge fan of the soundtrack, it sounded like the jingly tunes you hear in the background of a childrens tv show... saying that however, there were 3 songs, I absolutely adored and now have on my ipod. So I did gain something from this anime.
