Although Towards the Darkness and Litchi Hikari Club are not for the weak hearted, fans of Usamaru Furuya or even Suehiro Maruo may take a gander at these series. Both share an aesthetic artwork since the artists generally specialize in the grotesque. It's as if beauty, as an almost intoxicating poison, is a main motivator for the characters/entities.

Usogui
|
Usogui follows a fearless gambler participating at utterly ridiculous games, which a big organization created for their fun. Zero is also a gambler, but he relies more on logic than brute force. Perhaps similarly, both MCs are under the influence of antagonistic leaders who prefer domination over others.

Shigurui

There are many instances in these series that are quite similar such as characters, especially samurai, who aspire to be stronger in terms of their skills in swordsmanship, or same desires of individuals who want to conquer their obstacles (i.e. enemies or hardships). Also, numerous historical events and people had been mentioned, although in different circumstances. Both art are marvelously realistic, but Shigurui takes the gore level higher than Vagabond.

Manhole

Strange, foreign creatures forcefully make human bodies their hosts. Parasites are not as self-aware in Manhole, and Kiseijuu evokes a more thought provoking response to the readers due to questions about morality and humanity.
