I debated marking this "mixed feelings" because it seems like the series was canceled, and the first volume feels more like the prologue to a grand adventure than a complete story in its own right.
Which is a shame, because it's pretty good! I might check out the webnovel; don't know if it's been translated properly or not.
The gimmick is that this is sort of a workplace comedy where dungeons are run like companies. The monsters tempt adventurers in with treasure chests, and if the humans die their souls can be harvested. They both know what they're signing up for so there's kind of a

This show is still airing as I'm writing this, but I had a strong impression so I can't wait for it to finish XD.
From the premise I thought this was a cliche "magic girlfriend appears" show in the tradition of Ah My Goddess or Chobits, but it's actually more like a wholesome younger brother-older sister relationship. He feels down because he's poor and doesn't have friends, so she finds ways to support him with the errands despite her faulty wiring and short battery. It's probably inspired by folktales about house yokai who can be good or wicked depending if you respect them or not. In short ... Jul 24, 2022
Kuroitsu the monster designer has a creative philosophy: monsters shouldn't be designed for a single purpose, but should the flexibility to take on many roles and be themselves. This feels like a manifesto by the creative staff of the anime, because it seems to completely defy genre, target audience, and industry common sense. It's a total Frankenstein of a TV show and yet for some reason it just works. The show is both an advertisement for IRL prefectural sentai mascots and a satire of Japanese work culture. It's a slapstick comedy and a conventional adventure story, with occasional rather dark and cynical character writing but

This is a low tension fantasy comedy. The main characters are a dark mage shopkeep and her toddler-age slime apprentice. It has a bit of a slow start, as most gags revolve around the mage hiding her affection and contriving excuses to huge and squeeze the slime.
But as the story progresses it finds its rhythm and becomes more engaging. I think the cast of side characters are the main charm - they're very funny and likeable. It begins dipping its toes into surprisingly dangerous and emotional drama and adventure arcs as well, without sacrificing the story's safe-feeling vibe. Well, the cover art tells you ... This is a manga I checked out for the indulgent premise, but expected to drop for the same reason. I was very pleased to find that it's not only a decent romance story, it's also legitimately good science fiction.
This story takes place in a world where some robots were designed for human companionship, but the main robot character is not one of them. She is a glorified kitchen appliance designed to be easily ignored, the better to perform her role. Then she becomes someone's wife. The story explores the implications of this in great depth. To put it bluntly, it's everything I thought Chobits was ... Nov 6, 2020

I'd class this as a manga for adults. Not in the lewd way, but in the "dark jokes about the economy and existential dread" kind of way.
When you first meet the rabbits, at first you feel sympathy for their situation, and think the protagonist is a jerk for mistreating them, until you begin to understand that the rabbits are totally insane and beyond help, and the guy's behavior, cruel as it is, is pretty reasonable in context. This frees you up to enjoy the chaos. They'll literally die if they stop working for more than a few minutes (it's like a curse or something, the curse ... |
