I personally like this anime, but it is not as good as people make it out to be.

Story: The big problem with the story is that it's a string of setups with very underwhelming payoff. This series is absolutely incredible at building up hype for certain subjects and characters, but falls short when giving the climax and ending to those characters.

Art: Animation is flawless, with a few hiccups, but nothing major.

Sound: Music is fantastic. Special props to the Ash-Greninja theme in particular.

Character: To make it simple: Bonnie: Great, Clemont: Good, Serena: Good but generic and easy to predict, Ash: Boring and empty. Most ... of the side characters are meh, Alain is pretty good, and while they don't get a whole lot of screen-time, the Gym leaders are okay. But Team Rocket is just bad in this series. This is the most boring Team Rocket has ever been and that really hurts most of the episodes.

Enjoyment: I did like this series for it's animation and fights, along with a cool soundtrack that really pumped me up. It's great at hyping you up.

Overall: While the story and characters were fairly bland, and the ending being rather abysmal for many reasons other than the obvious, I enjoyed this series for its high quality animation and its great fights. It's a really style-over substance anime, which would work well for Pokemon if they didn't try and clumsily write in a story that ends fairly poorly. Overall, it's pretty good and I do recommend watching it if your into seeing Pokemon in some awesome fights.
