It's enjoyable as all hell. If you're looking for something crude and wacky then this is the right anime for you. Structurally this anime is all over the place, but it is a crazy ride and I want a season 2.
The actual production of it is really stellar expected of the studio that produced it, the animation seems almost too good for the premise but that is what makes it so good. Lots of the episodes seem random, well the anime itself was brought to life because of random ideas so that's to be expected. But the characters are charming and I like it.

It's weird, I was planning to drop the series around the middle. Not because it's bad I just wasn't impressed with the writing at the time
I recommend not being influenced by the bad reviews too much, this is one of the shows that can really linger and settle deep within you, it could also not but the chance that it does is worth the take. I'm glad I gave it a chance to watch til the end, no matter what flaws I may find it was 100%+ worth it that I went through this journey.
With being a story with only one season, it
...
was fairly well-paced. A satisfying ending. A story can be mediocre but if the ending is brilliant you betcha I'll rate it high. Endings are one of the most important factors in stories for me, you have better make me feel like I watched something that was worth it.
But the story wasn't actually mediocre for me, at least not for the second half. I *really* loved the second half. This was a really beautiful anime. All of my top anime can be described as "beautiful" and this amazingly manages to fit that bill.
I can see some technical flaws if I thought hard enough. But that does not matter right now for my opinion of the series. In stories, I look to feel an "experience". I want stories that manage to hit certain emotions just right, and this anime is one of them.
NOW ONTO THE PART WHERE I WILL WRITE SPOILERS BUT HOPEFULLY IN A WAY TO CONVINCE YOU TO WATCH THIS SHOW.
Also I'm writing this at like 4:30am after binging episodes 6-12. I'm both tired and traced with emotional anguish.
The first half seemed fun, charming, but a little lackluster in the writing. I planned to drop it so I didn't continue. Got interested since I still viewed the threads of episodes to see opinions of people. Basically if you're familiar with the danganronpa writer you know he likes killing off characters. And in this story, he does it right. So right. I admire whoever can make death seem bitterly beautiful yet heavily tragic at the same time.
The second half of this series is what I can really praise. Everything from the sound, the tone, the animation, scene direction, writing, voice acting, really came together in a lot of moments and it really captivated me.
I thought the characters were rather one-dimensional at first, but they turned out to have more depth than I thought. One writing technique I've learned of is when the author doesn't fully explain a character's backstory/story in detail but just enough where the viewer can just fill in the blanks with their imagination as they imagine what that person went through. An effective tactic and it works for short stories.
The author managed to convey the emotions to me, managed to convey the tone and the story so well to me. The protagonist seems like the usual sympathetic wants-to-be-a-hero-always heroine, hopelessly stubborn. This is nothing new with most protagonists, but you know, due to the author being able to convey her tragic situation I admire her more than think she's annoying. She was a great protagonist from beginning to end, and I liked the development. She managed to keep her ideals, and she did it with pride. It was all tragic and beautiful, bitter hopefulness. I like animes that can conflict my emotions like this.
I might be making this anime seem more like a masterpiece than it is, but to me at least, it is one.

This deserves the high rating it gets. I've seen this series around since getting into light novels but never got it. And when I bought the first volume I left it on my shelf a bit, but I decided to read it because I had another book order I was looking forward to. Well when I picked up this book I completely forgot about that other book series and instantly bought the rest of this series's volumes. Which made it the first time I've ever bought ebooks because of how impatient I was, and somehow I managed to read two volumes a day twice for
...
this series.
It's a series easy to binge... But now I shall get onto the contents. I'll keep things vague as not to spoil. Also as someone who LOVES spoilers even for their favorite series, this is a series where even I would be disappointed at if I was spoiled. Because the plot twists are one of the key points of fun in the series. I'll also be discussing the light novel not the web novel, I've heard they both diverge. And so far I've finished ten volumes.
I'm not a fan of isekai. Or so I thought. I wasn't even a big fan of "That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime" (it was enjoyable at the beginning but a while after eh. Also both that series and this are heavily different) After reading through this series, I realized I just wasn't a fan of how isekais were usually written not because I didn't like the isekai genre.
I'm actually a fan of all genres, but my problem is that some series don't use their genres to their full potential. Fantasies just feels like magic worlds made for the convenience of the protagonist.
This series is different however. The world-building is fantastic. The magic system doesn't feel like it's just there for the benefit of convenience, in fact it feels like it's part of the actual story.
How the light novel (not so much the manga) is structured, is that we get the protagonist's point of view as she battles in the cave and we also get side chapters that make up usually 45% of the volume of the protagonist's classmates. Some people find the side chapters boring, and I do find them way less interesting than the protag's POV, but if you don't expect much from them they are actually very enjoyable to read. Or at the very least, are VERY important and worth it to read, they aren't there just for fun only.
The characters in this series are all intriguing. Even Shun, the protagonist of the side chapters, is well written. He's obviously meant to be generic, and he is. But he's realistic, his flaws are developed nicely, his character makes sense, his mindset makes sense, and even if he has it easy compared to the others he has gone to some intense mental struggles. And it's not like things always go his way, they usually don't, there are actual consequences to stuff.
And an interesting aspect is that, all of the reincarnations regain their memories as soon as they are born. As babies they have the mindset of their past life. Which is utterly terrifying, you'll be born in a world you don't know about and as a helpless baby unable to do anything. Though if you were born as our protagonist you'll literally need to escape dying as soon as you hatch.
One of my favorite things about this series is that, all the characters have lived a completely different life for many years and in a different environment since being babies. And they all come out as pretty much different people because of that. Shun is someone who doesn't want to accept that his classmates are changed, and he's very mentally stubborn about it. Knowing that he has some people he knows from past life is probably a way to cope with some loneliness experienced in this new world, so he can't accept seeing them as different people.
Like dang, there's so many characters I can read on in this series.
The things I've listed are enough reasons to check the series. But I haven't discussed the best part of this series yet, so I shall...
THE PROTAGONIST. She's great. Her alone is enough of a reason to read this series. Judging by the series title I expected her to be a bit of a sassy bitch which I was all in for, and while she is pretty sassy and not the greatest person per se... What I didn't expect was for her to be pretty relatable. Reading the first volume she had a lot of things to relate on.
She's also pretty silly, and has a very very strong will. A surprisingly amount of pride. She fights for survival, and she has smart strategies.
A female isekai protagonist isn't all too common, not to mention that she's WELL-WRITTEN. Everyone reading the series literally thought the author was female until it was proven otherwise, he does write the female characters better than the male ones somehow.
I've heard one of the reviewers said the story gets worse when she leaves the cave. But, personally, that's where things pick up. From that point the story has made big revelations and the story has pretty much shifted. When stories lose their original premise, that is the point I stop reading because the story stopped what I signed up for. BUT, this series is different. The plot gets better and there are more character interactions. The character interactions are one of the best parts of the series.
And the protagonist is lovable, so even if the plot is decent having her is enough for it to be amazing. But the plot is actually more than decent so that is why I consider the series a masterpiece.
I love this series. We finally have an isekai starring a well-written strong female protagonist, who is also a dork but also very cool. And she's a spider. But so what?

Forgive me it's been more than a year or so since I've watched it, won't be able to give any specific details but just from what I remember. Prob will update by the time I rewatch it.
People say the first three (or was it four?) episodes are the worst. Yeah I personally say give it a chance past the few first episodes, but still I can imagine that won't necessarily guarantee you'll still like it. This isn't an anime that's easy to consume, I wouldn't say it's good if you're looking for a casual watch. It's still dang good though.
This is one of the
...
director's most messier works, it suffers from only having one cour. But this is my most favorite idea of their's.
If you know the director, he really likes symbolism. The sacrifice for that is that people won't enjoy something they aren't able to properly understand. If you don't mind spoilers, I would recommend researching the symbolism in this show before watching it, I'd imagine that'll help things be more enjoyable.
This show seems easily like a hit or miss. I usually judge things from how I feel at the end of it, and I say this is probably one of my most favorite animes.

A good yuri slice of life. It justifies both of those genres.
It's rare to see true slow burn yuri. Most of these usually end up being yuri-bait. But this series feels like a yuri even without the need to interject makeout scenes.
The character are realistically dense. Within the first volume both characters have a thought of the other/themselves potentially being gay (though they try not to give much thought to it as that'll cause problems). It's rare for characters to have this kind of awareness.
Finishing each volume, you can always feel a step of progress, however slow it may be. This is a
...
very slow romance yet you can feel a satisfactory level of progress, and it feels like the author will actually eventually go all the way. With most slow yuri romances at a certain point you feel a lost of hope for the pair reaching true romance but this series progresses towards it so naturally that it's easy to continue rooting.
Plot wise. It is a rather dull concept, but it is entertaining how the author develops this concept as much as they can. Most slice of life are pretty much just pure comedy, which is not the tone I'm looking for in slice of life. This series has a more relaxing feel more it, perfect for a slice of life. The two main pair have an interesting relationship, their friendship was barely established and they haven't been friends for long. At times they mostly just say what they feel like and then just rest in silence. It's like they have a silent agreement with each other? Well their interactions make for a nice slice of life feel.
Can I also say how relatable this is? This book is pretty good at describing what first romances are like. Even the part where you can even be a little creepy about it lol.
How the author writes the characters are great too. They all feel realistic with their own unique values. They always do things that line up with their natural values. Though they can be out of character which just adds onto the realism. They also seem like teenagers, not like some mature adults or little girls. They seem like fully aware teenagers, maybe a tad bit philosophical at times but fully natural otherwise.
Though if I had some complaints, there is one certain out of place character that, in the first volume they seemed too involved. But they aren't as much of a problem past that point.
Now I'm going to compare the Seven Seas translation and the Fan Translation. I prefer the Seven Seas translation for the voices of the characters. The fan translation makes them read kind of too stiff and formal and the air can be kind of stuck-up. The Seven Seas translation makes them feel more like proper teenagers, using proper slag that somehow isn't obnoxious but feels natural.

Very wholesome series with girls doing cute things. 10/10
That aside. (Writing this as 13 chapters are out) This is one of the actual "true" sadistic mangas. Most tend to be like "oh it's okay because the person is enjoying the treatment." No this manga shows true sadism.
The premise itself is disgusting but it isn't badly written.
The black-haired protagonist acting as the sadist is a manipulative bitch with the image of an innocent schoolgirl. And I honestly hope they don't go the route to where they try to redeem her, because right now it looks like she's just cold and heartless because that's just
...
her pure nature.
Now the white-haired girl with the role of the victim. What I like about the series so far is that, she really does not enjoy any of the abuse inflicted to her. So it doesn't feel very romanticized. She's just a victim manipulated by her love interest to deal with her sadistic fetishes.
The manga is good at showcasing a disgusting toxic relationship between two highschool girls, if that's your thing. It's also not for the screamish.

My main enjoyment for this series is the main couples. The other couples can be good or meh. I hope the last volume is full of Shiramine and Kurosawa.
After re-reading it more carefully, I really enjoyed the story between the main couple.
And now I'll try to type more to actual be able to post this because this site needs that. I first went to this manga so I could look for Yuri fanservice. So I pretty much just skipped dialogue mostly. And then I stopped reading about a few chapters in. And 2nd time reading I read it, although somewhat carelessly. I enjoyed it, although

I skipped some couples if I find it boring. 3rd time reading, I read the couples I liked and the main couple more carefully and it was amazing.

8/10.
It is not good as a story, but it is good if you want some fanservice. It was very enjoyable at least.
The characters are very questionable in their actions, the whole things a mess, it is by no means something worth having watched if it didn't have the yuri scenes that it did. But it did so at least there's something out of it.
Borderline hentai with a plot.
I also have to admit I have rewatched this three times. I am curious as to why out of many yuris to choose one, this got adapted, surprisingly this is like the author's worst
...
series and I would honestly recommend their other ones.
