Hai to gensou no grimgar is an anime that explores the isekai/gaming genre in a completely different way from others. Here you won't find your usual overpowered MC and his harem. This anime tells about a group of weak people, the ones that couldn't get into the party who will defeat evil king, that strive to live in this new world, without any special power or privilege.
The show is incredibly slow paced, and may be not fit for fast paced action shows watchers, but on the other hand this gives us an insight on the real lives of the characters. The dynamic of the relationships
...
between the various characters is delicate and fragile, friendships take time to develope, sex jokes actually hurt girls and nobody is ultra-confident about themselves. For example this is the only anime for example where goblins are actual monsters that can kill people.
Character development is done really well in the series and i think it is one of its best points. first and foremost the characters are not imprisoned in personality stereotypes, second the best part6 of the show is watching them learn how to work in group, trust each other and survive together in an hostile world. We can see their abilities develop in each battle, in terms of group and individuals.
Personally I loved the art, the watercolor like effect of the backgrounds blended perfectly with the characters and overall it was well animated. I especially enjoyed the battle sequences
ovferall I enjoyed this anime but as a lover of slow paces/slice of life kind of shows i dont reccomend it to studio trigger or generally shonen fans
