I truly and genuinely believe that Pop Team Epic is one of the single greatest pieces of collaborative media of all time. Season 2 upgrades the variety aspect of the show from season 1 into a full-on anthology, with almost a dozen different studios getting to take the reins and tell their own Pop Team Epic-themed story. The show does not stop to laugh at itself even once, continuing from bit to bit without hesitation. Each episode leaves you with a feeling of "oh my god, they really went there, that was incredible" in the best possible way. Multiple of the anthology segments could very ...

Spoiler
God DAMN I hate this show. Sure, the character designs are cool and the fights are...acceptable? but you can *really* tell that Yoshiki Usa and Masahiko Ootsuka have never written a full season of anime before. The chemistry between David and Lucy is *completely* nonexistent, every character death is meaningless, and most infuriating of all, the show doesn't have anything to actually *say* outside of "don't get cybernetics because they'll make you mentally ill and the police will have to put you down to keep everyone safe". Milo and Bisco's dynamic is delightful, blossoming from an uneasy alliance to as close to romance as you can get for media published in a country where every single one the last fourteen books banned by the Tokyo government for being harmful are about romantic relationships between men. If you like queer anticapitalist stories, this show is absolutely for you.

The visuals and aesthetics are delightful, the inherent weirdness of animal weaponry and mushrooms accentuating the absurdism of a world ...

MUTEKING THE Dancing HERO is, in my eyes, a masterpiece of lightweight anime. Really the only bit of the show I don't feel is top-tier is the story, which tends to be on the cheesy and shallow side a lot of the time. The cheese is definitely intentional; it's a Tatsunoko remake, and the plot isn't nearly as important as the world it takes place in and the people Muteki meets. Neo San Francisco is filled to the brim with characters who, even without ever being introduced, are memorable and you come to care about as Muteki familiarizes himself with the city he protects. It's ...
