I would have liked my first review to be a positive one, but I really could not bring myself to not talk about this manga. To introduce the situation, I am trying to read shoujo mangas by order of users that have read it here on MAL to read the most popular works. I thought, well this manga has 51k entries it must be quite popular, even if I have not heard about it, like, never?
My first impressions was rather good, well I know people usually like this author's style, but it’s not really my cup of tea, but well the story seems interesting with
...
the blackmailing and the protagonist seems like a solid character. I was really REALLY of the mark, the start is good yes, but that is it. As you progress and keep reading there is an overall sensation that the scenes keep repeating themselves, you read the same dynamics again and again ANDA AGAIN. I thought that maybe it had a slow start, but it took off in later chapters, again wrong. I grew more and more bored from the things that keep happening, characters (I find them one of the most important things in a story and I can read the most boring stories because I like the characters) were plain, they only think about one think and that is their relationship with their love interest, there are two types of dialogues here romantic bs and fights. The only other theme this manga touches a bit more is the novel Yukina writes, that was interesting at first, but as chapters passed the novel became a reason to keep pushing semi-erotic scenes between the 14 years old characters.
About that kind of scenes, that is like a whole different issue with this manga for me. This is aimed at middle schoolers, the same age the characters have, this is kids from like 10 to 14, that at least is the target of Nakayoshi were it serialized. About that, one of the comments the author included at the start was her editor telling her "This is not a Nakayoshi story" well IT ISN'T, WHAT I DON'T REALLY KNOW IS HOW IT WENT ON FOR SO LONG. When you think of Nakayoshi you think of mangas in the wave of Sakura Card Captor or Sailor Moon, but this is far from that wave. I know it is common for 14 years old to start being interested in love and maybe sex, but I think this manga really gets annoying and uncomfortable with the "sexual theme". There are no sexual scenes per se, but there are a lot of pseudo-sexual ones, if anybody were to take out of context the protagonist's faces, expressions or poses and scenes anybody would think they are from some kind of erotic manga. The author turns such things as talking in each other’s ear as a kind of erotic stimulation that is gross and somewhat stupid. Also, you do not need to go that far to find scenes like that, the covers from each volume look like they came out from an erotic manga.
To conclude, this manga is not worth anyone's time. I read this in two days, and I cannot really remember what happened after what or what scenes were before and what after. The story ends up forming a big mass of poo where you cannot tell anything apart.
