Clannad Afterstory is the sequel (second season) of Clannad. What makes it similar to Ano Hana is that they both utilize drama and emotions to their fullest potential. These are tales of love and family, friendship and loss, that will take you on a roller coaster of emotions as you walk with the characters from the first episode to the last. Both shows utilize their soundtracks and music super well to support particular scenes appropriately and to convey a message. There are also minor touches of the supernatural used to support the story, yet make the shows unique in their own ways. These are both shows that I wish I can re-watch from scratch without any memory of it! Because the journey was simply phenomenal and once-in-a-lifetime like!

Both Haikyuu and Ahiru no Sora are sports anime that make wonderful use of sports as a medium of developing characters alongside drama. The characters in Ahiru no Sora all have their own unique backstories and troubles in life. Both are underdog stories and we follow their journey as a team. Both are very character-driven and exciting to watch. Haikyuu definitely excels in art and animation too, yet both have great soundtracks.

Both The Promised Neverland and Made in Abyss look seemingly "cute" and rather lighthearted at first glance. Yet later on in the journey, you realize it's more than that - the world in which they live in are more mysterious and there's more to this than meets the eye. I absolutely LOVE both shows because of the world building, but also because of the ride you are brought on. Each episode, the audience are learning more alongside the characters.

Both shows focus on two main characters, whom are great childhood friends and emphasise on their relationship as well as character growth. Both are also by the same mangaka Matsumoto Taiyou and have similar character designs. They have amazing soundtracks and the art is also extremely detailed especially in Tekkon Kinkreet. Overall both shows effectively capture the struggles of the two main characters and the adversities they face in their story.

Both are deconstructions of popular genres and troupes exhibiting characters fighting against entities they don't truly understand but carry on doing so and emphasise on the psychological factor heavily. Suffering, psychological turmoil and the characters' emotional turbulence are cleverly depicted throughout the series and gradually builds up.

Both shows use music as a medium for character development and growth, as well as to connect the characters together. Both have great soundtracks and fluid animation, especially in Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, art plays a fundamental role in the music scenes to forge appropriate symbolism and motifs, as well as to aid and compliment the experience delivered to the audience. They both constantly emphasise the epiphany felt by the characters because of music. Shigatsu is based on classical music whereas Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) is based on jazz music and both are set in very distinct times and settings. Shigatsu is more modern, while the latter is set around the 1960s.

Both are set in a "historic" setting. Friendship and betrayal are also themes existent in both shows. Both casts set out on a journey which encompass the visiting of various places in different scenarios and situations, at times also aiding those who need help. Both set of characters are extremely similar, including the comedy incorporated and the colloquial yet hilarious interactions between them.
