First of all, Id say it did a good job if it was aiming to be a horror movie.
It wasn't that scary at all but it was definitely disturbing and creepy. Kids would be scared from this. BUT I don't recommend showing this to kids. Id say it should be age 15 and up at least.
I gave it a 7 because I couldn't find the point of the story. I didn't really like it nor enjoy it but like I said if it was supposed to be like that(disturbing creepy and not like able to most people) then it did a good job. I can't
...
point out any exact things to hate or love about the movie other than its constant abuse to Midori. I know the story is about Midori having a very bad life and stuff. But yeah it takes a certain level of weirdness to get into it, I can also see why this movie was banned to some countries because it basically revolves around Child abuse, Rape, and pedophilia. Not the type of movie id recommend to watch at parties. But its a valuable experience to watch something as weird and disturbing like this.
The art is old and is like gifs but since its pretty old I guess it was intentional to give it a historical anime feels. the Music was ok. Not the type you can jam into but it did sorta enchanced the emotion the show is trying to give the audience

This will be my first time writing a full review while mentioning episodes. It might contain some minor spoilers about what is happening in the episode. If you don't care about what I feel and wanna avoid some spoilers(Honestly I don't think any of the spoilers I wrote can ruin the show) then skip to the very bottom where I give my Summary and reasons why you need to watch this anime.
First thing I have to say is that I already watched Aquarion Evol two times before I watched this.(First time I watched it was when I was a kid around 2012, I
...
didn't know that time that it was actually a sequel since I watched it on air in tv) Second time I watched Aquarion Evol is exactly before I started watching this. Since I already watched Aquarion Evol, I already know the whole truth about Apollo, Sylvia, Sirius, Toma, and even high commander fudo. So that might have killed the first few episodes for me, but thats okay I'm aware that some episodes will be boring for me because they were explaining stuff that I already know so I still sticked to watching it. For the sake of the review I still watched all episodes and it doesn't feel right for me if I skipped some.
heads up! this might contain some spoilers!
Episode 1-9 like I said was mainly focused about the legend of Aquarion, Atlandia, Apollonius and Celiane. For the record, I still learned some new things even tho I watched Evol already(Since Aquarion evol is focused already about the reincarnations of Apollo and Sylvia/Sylvie, not about Apollonius and Celiane anymore). I can't say I enjoyed 1-9 but it was still interesting because (SPOILER) I always seem to forget the fact that Amata and Mikono and Evol itself is focused on the Reincarnated Love of Apollo and Sylvie, If you watched these already you will understand why I didn't say Apollonius and Celiane.
At Episode 10, it felt like the series is finally kicking up but when I got to episode 11 it returned to the bland episodes. At episode 12 Apollo and Sylvia finally got a bit of development. At Episode 13 it got interesting again and gave more development between Apollo and Sylvia it continued till episode 14. At episode 15 it felt like it was boring again not much to say. Now Episode 16 for me felt like a huge turning point for Apollo and Sylvia.
Episode 18, probably one of my favorite episodes, not because it have a huge relevance to Apollo and Sylvia but because it was funny. If you understand the characters and their personality this will give you a good laugh too. From there it continued to stay interesting since its already past the Introduction pace(Irrelevant to me because I watched Evol) . There was an episode around this part (I forgot what episode exactly) But it started with this shitty animation and I was really turned off at first. I thought the animator got sick or something or maybe someone else did it. But as the episode progressed it started to make sense. So if your watching/going to watch this keep in mind that the shitty animation is to give an effect of what they are experiencing.
Episode 23 Another huge turning point for Apollo and Sylvia and it remains that way further until the end. I have to say that it felt pretty rushed and the pace was really fast in this episode. Around this part of the story(SPOILER) Apollo and Sylvia shipping start to go well and Sylvia finally starts to look at Apollo differently(yes its this late in the series that she kinda admits to herself or atleast show it) Ok so it kinda showed that Sylvia can look at Apollo even if it means she have to defy her brother(Its huge considering she is a huge bro-con, ill get to that later) So it kinda showed the scene where Sirius the brother is inviting Sylvia to join him and his side and Sylvia being a huge bro-con starts to reach out for his hand. Then Apollo stops her by telling her some stuff about dreams and hands Lol. Ok so Sylvia kinda says some stuff that that hand without the feathers is used to hold the hand of someone she cherish(Something like that) then she kinda held hand with Apollo. At this point I was screaming as hell already(not the point).
The next remaining episodes the pace remained fast and it actually got faster. (I was legit shocked what happen to their vice commander guy. Ive always thought badly of him but when he said something about acting autonomously I was like woah he is cool at somepoint, then shit happens I was shocked and it felt kinda rushed)
If you already watched Aquarion Evol, the finally part of the story is probably too common for you now(Because that scene was shown multiple times in Evol) and thats how I feel. I still felt the series but its no surprise for me already. It still felt a bit rushed for me. But it didn't betray my expectations.
Some things I noticed and felt like I need to mention is that, the voices, design of the bodies didn't fit to the age of the characters. Apollo and Sylvia are 13 and 14 if I remember correctly, and Sirius is 16-17. I understand that this anime is pretty old and when it was made this was pretty common. One thing that annoys me is Sylvia being a bro-con. I understand why some characters develop those kinds of feelings(Sis/Bro-con) since I watch a lot of animes that have/or revolves around those, you can say its normal for me to see them. But my point about this is that its not necessary, and the fact that there was no background to that make it feel like its completely random. From what I understand there is no reason for her to be infatuated like that. In some anime there is always a back story about why someone develops an infatuation to their sibling, like for example they are not really related and they kinda got connected already before they even meet as siblings, or the one that develops a crush on their brother or sister is always protected by them because they are lacking something and is getting ignored by their parent. But this series didn't show any of that. From what I understand Sirius is the one that was being isolated or something by his father because he have no memory of being the solar wing that they believe him to be. And they actually compare him to sylvia who have some memories. So if you compare it to other Bro/Sis-con patterns it should be Sirius having infatuations towards sylvia(If she kinda show concern about it). It can be because they are the only ones in their family that is left alive and that could serve as a reason but in the flashbacks it was shown that sylvia is already shows infatuation even before that fire incident. I don't really wanna rant more about this but at this point Mikono(From Evol) actually have more reason than Sylvia to develop a bro-con to Cayenne(Mikono's brother) but she didn't so why does Sylvia have the Complex? still a mystery to me. Further in the series it starts getting faint as she grow closer to Apollo but even till the last episode she still shows signs of it.
Summary & Why you need to watch
First its not all about the mecha, its more about the legend of aquarion that will carry out to Aquarion Evol. Aquarion Evol is in top top top lists of my favorite animes. If you want to watch this anime you need to continue and also watch Aquarion Evol because this alone will look like shit and won't make sense. Its a package you have to watch them both. For me Genesis of Aquarion is just an introduction for the next series(Aquarion Evol). And thats the only reason you need to watch it, so you can watch Evol. Over all the anime is good. Its obviously old and have outdated features but if your looking for a mecha that is different from other common mechas like gundam and code geass then this show is for you, Why? because it have feelings! do gundams have feelings? Nope but an Aquarion does!
Edit: The ending is really Iconic for me, it still feels fast but as I said its just the beginning for Apollo and Sylvia love story, because Aquarion Evol covers that.
Either way if your going to watch these are the things you need to remember.
- Its not just a mecha, its an angel.
- the pilots(Elements) have powers so does the aquarion(mecha)
- its not about wars about robots, its about love and fighting for it
- its not Evangelion, if evangelion is for kids then Aquarion is for Teens
- Don't drop the series because its boring at the start. Episode 10, 13 and up is where the story flows differently and more interesting.
- Like I said its sorta just like a setup with its own story for Aquarion Evol(Story revolves around reincarnation of Apollo and Sylvia and how their love will continue after 12,000 years) Its the perfect set up so watch it! if you don't then watching this is pointless.
Over all this and Evol is really a Beautiful anime. You just need to understand the story and watch them all.

Do know that even if I'm writing a review just now, I watched this years ago and rewatched it many times already. I will be biased to a certain point because this is one of my favorite anime. I will remain rational and will just try to explain the things most people hate about the show.
First I noticed that people hate the anime BECAUSE of Kirito(Main protagonist) I don't understand why but they hate how OP he became. Just to inform, Kirito was my favorite character for a long time before. That is because I can relate specifically as a gamer. Now, that's not
...
really the point. The reason why Kirito receives hate and love at the same time is because the kind of people that watched the anime is divided. 1 - The type of otaku that see themselves in a character and they probably are gamers too, because they liked kirito so much it translated to what they are playing and they became cosplayers cosplaying kirito. 50% of the Kirito fans are that way. They are the type of audience that look at the characters more, rather than the story. 2 type of the audience that watched SAO are the ones that probably don't have passion for MMORPG games in the same genre as SAO. And because of that they pay attention to the story more, therefore they notice the flaws about Kirito being too OP. Now I'll explain why I think Kirito being OP was reasonable and didn't kill the anime. First reason Kirito's OP-ness developed in SAO. Now, we know that physical traits, knowledge and habits are translated to the game. Why did Kirito becamo OP? he have dual wielding special skill, a skill given to the player with the fastest reaction speed. Now, people may say that Kirito got that because he is the protagonist. Yes that's true, but it wasn't reasonable and was not out of the blue. You see as the anime goes on it was revealed that Kirito once practiced Kendo as a child and from how Suguha(his sister) acts Kirito wasn't terrible at it. It was said that he quit kendo to stay away from suguha that could mean he still was interested(That's why he like swords). Now that can backup why he have a fast reaction speed, but that alone can be lacking so the other thing people forget is He is a gamer. Naturally gamers have skills of their own, a fast reaction speed can be one of that. Now those two reasons covers why his reaction is fast physically and mentally. Other reason for his OP-ness is because he is a Beta player, that isn't unreasonable at all because he is a gamer, being able to get to the Beta is already a proof of that(That means he is updated in gaming news) Being a gamer ofcourse he have the instincts of a gamer(He knows what to do ingame unlike the thousand of people that died because of stupidity). With those I believe I already atleast made it more reasonable for you(reader) to understand why he is OP ingame(All game he plays). Last reason why Kirito is reasonably OP is because its a survival game. If the character is weak he won't survive and it will be boring. Being OP in a MMORPG is not impossible nor rare.
Discussing the other thing that isn't likeable about Kirito is his personallity I don't really know how I can stand that but, I just wanna say that Kirito isn't only a Solo player in game. But if you noticed Kirito doesn't have a single friend in real life other than the people in SAO and Suguha. Now enough fan boy-ing for me. I got over it already anyway since he isn't my favorite character now neither my favorite SAO character(My favorite now is Asuna)
Summary
Now ill just write a few reasons to why SAO is good AS AN ANIME
- It have good designs and Art style
-A lot of cute female characters
-Season 1 arc 1 is good survival anime, arc 2 is basically the heart warming type closure for arc 1
-Season 2 arc 1 is a good flashback of Arc 1 of Season 1. Arc 2 of season 2 is more about moving on and giving new element to other characters.
-SAO reached mainstream flatform already thats why it will receive a lot of criticism and it is one of the main known Game based anime so it will be compared a lot. But if you look at sao as a separate anime, you will understand how its different and is not reliant to that Gaming mmorpg plot it have.

Now ill say it first, This anime is the type of anime that most adults may find boring and will hardly be enjoyed.
This anime is really lacking and it really needs a season 2 or more. I may sound negative but its true. But if your looking for a temporary enjoyment then this show is good for you. This is one of my favorite anime and that is due to complete Bias-ness. Personally I can't find anything special about the anime except that it contains one of my top coolest scenes. I will be biased and reasonable at the same time in this review.
My
...
#1 reason why I like this anime is Akina. Akina at first look can be considered as a generic protagonist. But one thing that most people fail to notice is that Hime is the Main protagonist of the anime/ or atleast share the spot with Akina. You see the story may look like as it revolves with Akina in the anime but what is actually happening here is that everything about Akina also revolves around Hime, or you could almost say that Akina's story revolves around Hime. No not because Hime does the fighting but because Akina's development as a character from his childhood was basically for Hime.
My #2 reason for loving the anime so much is Hime ofcourse. Her character may seem annoying at first for some people. Well not for me because I don't judge characters after seeing 3 or four episodes. But Okay looking at Hime she can look irresponsible most of the times but really who is the first one to jump infront of a train when its about to hit the city. Its Hime ofcourse, she really pushes herself for other people and I find that attractive to a character. The other thing I absolutely liked about her is her relationship with Akina and how cute she is around him. Imagine a tomboyish lazy girl that blooms around her crush its too cute.
The other characters was really interesting too and how the story plays around them was somewhat enjoyable in my opinion.
In short this anime for me falls in my category as an Anime where you pay attention to the characters rather than the story. Its the type of anime where you won't enjoy and Like it if you don't have a favorite character that you wanna see more.
(Bit of spoiler) The anime needs season 2 to be complete because it gets more interesting further in the manga and It gives more action than the anime

Ill write the same review as I did with the second season. If you just watched season 1 or haven't watched a season feel free to read because I didn't really wrote any spoilers
When I watch, finish, understand and feel an Anime I get depressed after I finish it, thats how I rate an anime.
This anime made me feel mixed emotions specially at the end of the two seasons. The end of season 1 was depressing and could have kept me depressed for a long time if I watched it while it was being aired but since I watched it late season 2
...
was already waiting for me. Of course that didn't lessen the impact the scenes gave. Plot wise id say it made my feelings dance. Specially season 1 where there are good mix of comedy specially between Kotarou and Yoshino, Romance and friendship between Kotarou and his harem. The lacking of action was understandable and it was also Okay considering their age in season 1.
Season 2 was kinda depressing specially after you build up ships and favorites in season 1. But it gave a new taste to the anime too and kinda a huge leap in terms of character development for the characters. The first episode was really emotional and may confuse other people(I wasn't) but those scenes was really specially to how the story will progress around Kotarou. Personally I didn't ship any because it was kinda obvious already AND I didn't really like Kagiri character wise but plot wise she did blend well. The ending may also confuse some people but if you look at episode 1 and the major happenings in season 1 you will understand why Kotarou progressed to that. It was very depressing but it kinda gives you that peace in mind knowing what happened and you can already guess what will happen even if the anime didn't continue.
In short I describe this anime as "Having a Beautiful Story and Character design." I'm guessing not everyone will like it and of course it didn't reach the mainstream flatform but that's okay because this anime is really special

This is the type of anime that can you a headache and is not for beginners.
I say that because this anime can be complicated to understand. Sometimes you have to rewind or rewatch but ofcourse that doesn't takethe enjoyment after understanding something. Its the kind of anime where you can learn something from.
My advice to anyone that is planning to watch it is be patient and look outside the box. Don't just judge everything around the main protagonist. Some protagonist are not made to be very like able specially in the first few episodes. Some people (Specially adults who grew up watching dragonball era) didn't
...
like how boring the main protagonist is. But that is just one point. Some also said they didn't understand how the story goes but that is because this anime was made to make the characters look smart so the anime will definitely be hard to understand to make the audience stupid.
Now story wise "Some" people will probably not like how it ends but some people will also like how the character's true self was revealed. This anime is really good at hiding things and making things complicated.
What I really liked about this anime and why its going down as one of my all time favorites is how they portrayed the side characters. Not only because the side characters are realistic but also because their personality complimented the Main character's personality in the story( That's how I feel) and at the same time the Protagonists Ayanokoji and Horikita closing them off. Horikita in my opinion had a reasonable personality and development towards Ayanokoji too, that's why she is one of my favorite characters in the anime. Plot wise ,Ayanokoji and Student coucil president rivalries was really good, it maybe lacking in the anime but it was a good setup for the novel because there are lot more characters that Ayanokoji will be butting heads to before him.
To summarize my review, Id say that this anime and everyone involved in making it was Genius. It can be really enjoyable and at the same time makes you feel like "Ohhh so thats why" as it progressed. I can compare and lump it together with No game No life since that Anime is also one of my all time favorites and It was also Genius and Ohhh worthy. But the difference is that Classroom of the elite was more thrilling(Because NGNL gives the protagonist always win vibes) while NGNL gives the excitingly fun kind of genius.

People may think I'm Dumb for rating this anime so High, but I have my reasons. First, the first time I watched this I was still a kid and I was missing episodes. Now I rewatched it, I still felt the same excitement and thrill.
This Anime is a rare breed. It gives you the "I wanna love this character" feels in most of the pairings. I really adored all the main characters and the way the story was played I felt the emotion that was being portrayed. I hated Mikage when the story wanted him to be hated, I hated Kagura when the story
...
wanted him to be hated, I felt sorry for them when the story tells their side and showed that they can be forgiven and what they did made sense.
I say this is rare because it showed a lot of mini genres in it. a pure love story between Amata and Mikono, A romcom yet so real pairing of Andy and Mix. Mikono's attraction to Kagura that gives that bitter taste. Shrade's relationship with everyone that suites him. And to be honest even tho I hate BL, Shrade and Cayenne portrayed a beautiful relationship. There's Yunoha and Jin too. It showed a lot of comedy too. The Action mecha part doesn't make complete sense because of the power of love and friendship tho, but that sets it apart from other mecha anime. Watching this anime can put you in the edge of your sit or bed whatever, specially when Kagura comes to Vega and look for Mikono, you can really feel the thrill and connect to the characters and just shout how dumb and weak Amata is whenever Mikono will get taken away.
The story about the two planets was portrayed well too and specially Alicia and Izumo's love story too. And the story about Kagura, Amata and his parents was really expressed in a lot of ways. The way they told the legend was really cool, and really makes you feel like you wanna watch the other Aquarion series too.
-In short this Anime is not like the Anime this days that are One sided. The art may be outdated but id say in its prime it was one of the best. Story wise not everyone will like it, but if you like and understand deep and meaningful story about love and relationship and destiny then you can relate because in that genre this Anime is #1 for me -
