[NOTE: This movie is a prequel, and takes place right before episode 2 of the anime!]
As per usual, I enjoyed the movie. There were only certain gripes I had with it, which usually seems to be the same case of “fart and poop jokes = funny lol”. When firstly, it’s just unnecessary. And secondly, even though this is made for a younger demographic, they could at least TRY to think about the older people watching too for once.
In the final battle of the movie where the school turns into a robot, and fights a sentient meteor monster, there was a scene where the ground caught
...
on fire, and they needed to put it out. What better way to do that than a fire extinguisher, right? But the extinguisher was built into a small pipe in the lower waist area of the robot, where it looked like it had a full on penis, and then proceeded to pee the extinguisher out all over the damn ground..
I *usually* smile and just shake my head at these sorts of jokes, but like.. damn man. Every single time I’ve seen a Yokai Watch movie so far, there has been at least one or two fart / poop jokes in it. For no reason at all.
Not to mention, after Jiba saves Emma from inside the robot (she was stuck in some part of the school and couldn’t get out), they had to “go to the entrance” to escape. Now, somehow I instantly knew where this was gonna go, and my intuition ended up being correct. The robot had to take a massive dump for them to escape through the backdoor.
It even had a little scene of the robot blushing as he let everything out. Like.. why bro??
Anyways.. uh
Enough about my annoyances though, I definitely do think the movie was good. It’s very cool. I love the Y-Hero transformations (especially Jiba’s) and their ultimate moves so much. I thought all of that stuff was extremely cool.
The animation was pretty good as well. It’s very nice to see that, even in recent times, Yo-Kai Watch hasn’t lost budget or dwindled on how good they animate their show + films. Even the CGI Robot School looked good.
I think that’s about everything I had to say. If you do wanna watch the movie, you’ll have to view the same subpar english fansub someone made of it as I did so that you can even understand it. And that’s if you even want to attempt that after reading the top part of my review, lol.
Would’ve rated it a 9 if it wasn’t for the doodoo humor. Still cool nonetheless.

[Contains some spoilers of about the first 15 minutes of the film]
Peak movie, and peak storyline. Entertaining from beginning to end.
This movie has a more dark/ serious tone than most other Yo-Kai Watch related things, and a lot of the God Yokai reminded me of Dragon Ball characters, which was super cool in my opinion. The only goofy thing I’d cast aside is the damn Nekomata FART JOKE halfway through the movie, which just made me shake my head.
(For some reason a lot of these movies have fart jokes?? Idk)
Anyways,
Essentially, the kid is trying to support his mother while she’s sick, so he has
...
a mail-delivery job to earn money to buy her medicine. After he makes her dinner for the night, she gets possessed by the fucking devil and runs out into the road, getting slammed into by a moving vehicle. She then dies instantly, leaving the boy all alone in life, since his father had went to get milk before he could create memories with him.
The kid then tires to kill himself by diving off a bridge, since he feels he has nothing to live for. But.. some mysterious boy saves his life, telling him he should value life more, and to not try and cut it short.
He tells the MC that there is actually a way to save his mom, since apparently the same situation happened to his sister. And so, they make a vow to partner up to take out the demon that stole the souls of their relatives.
That’s where the plot kicks in. And it’s really damn good.
I loved the little Guardian Angel Samurai Yokai that followed along with the MC throughout the movie. His voice was funny, the little actions he would do everywhere were funny, and he came to be a lot more important than I realized in the end. This movie had a lot of surprises and twists.
I also loved how the ending of this film really brought it all together. It even filled me with an indescribable joy to see the MC so teary-eyed like that. The tender moment after everything that had occurred in the story is like an emotional punch in the gut. You should definitely watch this movie, you’ll most likely end up loving it.
I’d give it an 100/10 if I could. I’d even defend this movie with my life if I had to. The hate is unnecessary, especially from the other guys review, and I dislike how much people shit on his franchise so often. It’s peak.

[SPOILER FREE REVIEW!]
I am a huge Yo-Kai Watch fan, so you could probably automatically assume that when I’d watch this for the first time, I’d love it. And.. you’d be absolutely correct. when I watched this film, my expectations were blown straight out of the water. I had never actually watched a Yo-Kai Watch movie up until today (only the anime & played the games), so with this being my first, I can confidently say it was way better than I could have ever expected. The animation was great, the story was great, and Hovernyan has to be one of the best Yo-Kai to ever
...
exist. If you EVER decide to watch this movie, I’m sure you’d love it too.
It has a lot of humor, some sad moments, and a ton of good action that I enjoyed throughout. I’m sure even non-Yo-Kai Watch fans would still enjoy this film. It *is* a family movie/ for a younger demographic, but an older adult can also easily enjoy this as well.
After scouring the internet for days, I was able to watch it in dub, which elevated the entire experience, in my opinion. The English VA’s were seriously great on this film.
I really wish Yo-Kai Watch was more popular, so that a larger group of people could experience/ watch this. It really is that great. 10/10 for me, and I definitely recommend it. Just go into it blind. Don’t watch any spoilers.
Thanks for reading!

I’m gonna be honest here, I really only watched this to claim a profile badge, so it’s not like there’s really much to say about it. Of course, this review needs to be longer. So uh.. hmm. Well, I’d say most of the movie was boring. I tried getting into it, but since I didn’t really understand it at all, I was just kinda waiting for it to end and nothing more.
I know people are gonna somehow say that this, was of course, actually very good, and that it taught them about the sport. But if you really wanna know, it was just guys
...
riding bikes in the desert for 25 minutes, with *some* scenes of actual interesting things happening sprinkled in-between. I only really ended up liking the ending, which was around the last 10 or so minutes of the film.
I wouldn’t even say the movie is bad, as it *was* enjoyable, but just.. mediocre. If you’re a fan of bike riding sports, and actually care about this sort-of thing at all, then I would say this movie is for you specifically. But it’s not like anyone’s gonna read this anyways if this thing came out 21 years ago. It was just boring as hell for me because, once again, I had no idea how any of this stuff worked. If you’re a guy like me that just clicked to watch this show to get a little event done, I don’t even blame you. I’m just telling it by how it is.
The main character, Pepe, works as a support team member for the other racers of his biking team. Giving them food, water, helmets, etc. But apparently something just snaps in him that makes him wanna win it all for himself, and that’s what the movie is really centered around. And yet, it still just wasn’t anything special. Nothing really captivated me or convinced me to continue watching. I just sat through it because I knew I had to.
After the 46 minutes of my time were up, I was just glad it was finally over and I didn’t have to sit through anymore of it. Literally anything besides the scenes of guys riding bikes was more entertaining (although that took up about 74% of the film.) Even the cute little cat, (who I shall not name), was more enjoyable to watch.
All in all, the movie made me feel nothing inside. I wasn’t happy, nor sad. Just blank the entire time. It’s a whatever movie. Not terrible, not amazing, just in the middle bland. If you like biking sports, watch it. If you don’t, don’t waste your time like me. That’s all.
