This anime's cover provoked me for months since appeared on a main page of MAL, it's just another situation when recommendation system simply doesn't work.
What, another isekai anime with tags Action, Comedy, Fantasy and people call it a 'parody on isekai genre itself'? Sounds nice, for sure it must be pretty funny and original, right? I mean, there are Konosuba, Isekai Ojisan and Isekai Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan already as great examples of comedy parody on isekai and they were pretty fresh in its ways of resolving standard isekai situations.
Forget about it, Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! is just a bad joke which repeated
...
hundreds of times with an idiotic stubbornness. How is it a parody on isekai if it's keep being so serious and pretentious in terms of plot and characters' motives? Obviously it's not a parody on isekai, author of this abomination is just pathetic and insecure so decided to use excuses for his cringe worth writing skills by including silly scenes everywhere so it would look like as a total farce and circus what could help with avoiding of critics which traditionally follows anything barely serious and plot oriented.
Half of this garbage anime try hard to be a comedy. Oh, it's a parody on a comedy then! Okay, then author did a good job since made a lot of unfunny jokes and put in some random delusional fool instead as MC. Another half of anime is a mess full of lengthy boring battles and basic formal dialogues. Oh, it's a parody on meaningful anime then! Okay, then author did a good job again by making worthless incoherent plot which fails to intrigue.
There is nothing to discuss here in terms of details or plot moves since all of them are meaningless and tasteless just like the author himself. I don't care how this anime looks and sounds, how much money were spent and who voices who here. It's just another 'popular TM' trash with some group of fanatics which can't do anything better than spread lies about 'parody' premise in this anime. This parody on anime itself totally deserves its parody-tier 'fans', what a joke.

Another attempt to watch something "Oh no, it's best anime/manga ever!".
In short: Darker than Black (attempt to copy a main idea - hunters on demons having their own demonic powers due contracts with quirky terms) met Tokyo Ghoul (attempt to copy the overall style from there, copy 'agency' and freaky characters/monsters for the same 'edgy' effect it had many ears ago) to make alternative Gantz (gore is for shock effect only, unreasonable characters with lack of motives and personal development but hey, it's still so edgy!).
The funny thing I didn't even liked those anime that much to shout about copypasta but the thing is
...
the author of Chainsaw Man simply failed to make an adequate 'inspired' product. It's weaker than any of those anime in everything. Sure, it has nice visuals and sound, but who cares really? Personally I don't care much about the audio-visuals when plot, dialogs, characters as a whole - all pathetic and exist just due formal reasons.
MC is a sweet summer child of Kazuya Kinoshita from Rent a Girlfriend - everyone hates him since he is so obsessed with girls that ready to be their dog, and - Yuuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen which is superficial and supposed to be funny but just stupid 'cool shonen hero TM'. Denji is a mix of worst sides of these two but somehow likable, he is still an obsessed with girls dog, literal dog, but some people keep saying 'he 's like me!', my condolences to them.
People keep running around with their favorite Makima which has a charisma of mannequin at best and overly mystified by author since has nothing to show in terms of character.
Kobeni is so pathetic 24/7 that it makes her annoying instead of pitiful, it's not so surprising that people spread a 'meme' about her possible demon - 'Sloppy BJ' demon just to add ANYTHING spicy to this worthless character which fears of everything but still keep kicking somehow.
Aki could be alternative MC for this anime but still hasn't character, his whole biography is 'he had a family many years ago and now he is not so became strict' that's it, nice character, yeah, slightly more than absolutely nothing.
Fighting scenes - most pathetic I ever seen in anime, they don't have any kind of idea behind them or deepness, it's all about childish 'I have blades in my arms! vs I have chainsaws in my arms!' crap, the moment when MC defeats that one 'villain' just because it was time for that shows it best. 'MC is cool and win' the only reason there since there were zero of not just explanations but also of visualization how it was made.
Chainsaw man is just another 'edgy' anime of its generation in a full glory of its degeneration. Previous 'iconic' gore anime at least were pretty original and more thoughtful.

Total trash and a big fat let down with all possible cliches, basic tropes, emotion manipulations and teaser-episodes instead of normal. First season was a nice attempt to make Chinese 'anime' with following overall rules of good anime but second season is an epitome of uncanny valley, it's trying so hard to be normal 'anime' and even has some questionable fanbase but... it's not anime thankfully, it's just a mix of tricks and linear working process which some Chinese newbies adopted from their more experienced Japanese colleagues. Visual? Yeah, it's nice. Music? It's not bad, lacks some variety but still. Everything else is just one
...
bit attempt to bite off more than they could chew, this is why scenes here look artificial, forced, overly dramatic...
I didn't like humor in first season but at least its presence made things easier to accept. Author took existed plot concepts from various of anime? It's okay, many authors doing the same, it's always about how good this attempt. Author can't joke or his jokes are too specific? It's okay, it's all about having some balance.
But season two act all seriously all of sudden, changed its pacing and even overall mood. Did author explained local mystic forces? Absolutely not but he keep pushing mystic tricks since his hands are free to do any manipulations since there are no rules except for few not crucial ones, it makes local mystery unbelievable even in terms of local fictional world, everything feels superficial all of sudden because there are no limits. Second seasons is full of typical anime production tricks which are incredibly predictable, local 'royals in bushes' are only for surprise effect and nothing else, zero value, but still fail what make them look silly. The whole plot of second season is primitive and deserves a movie format more with 90 minutes limit since it's obvious that author and his team didn't have enough of ideas to make anything meaningful and lengthy - there are flashbacks everywhere, worthless overlong scenes and useless details spend precious time in each episode just to have enough 'content' for 25 minutes. Antagonists are your typical insane dudes, nothing special and pretty laughable, since both want to avert what they did themselves but too proud to just ask protagonists I guess, this is why they prefer to kidnap and kill people. They live in society...
If Chinese will keep making 'anime' like this then Japanese anime industry has nothing to worry about.
