So... I am really new to this genre (surprising myself), but decided to give it a try (despite a name I find ridiculous and misleading) after watching Love Stage!! and Doukyuusei. I think I have officially become a convert... and that is because I finally am getting love stories that are realistic and gritty. This anime did not play around with the feelz, make you painfully wait a season and a half/umpteen episodes for a kiss out, or play cat and mouse with the pink love elephant in the room.... and that made me straight up spiral into the story. Idk if it's because men
...
are emotionally different or what, but I felt like the anime could actually explore and build upon the characters and their emotions because it didnt take forever brow beating around the bush. You SAW actual progression, and it hooked me...
The animation was well done in my opinion, the humor was delivered in spades, I liked the musical scores and loved the story...
I also didn't feel like I was thrust into some soft core f*** fest, but was guided naturally (for the most part). The ONE qualm I had was the whole kissing on the lips thing, although it became so damn hilarious later on.. but I am docking a point since it felt forced/unnatural in the beginning. This is an anime that plays around with Taboo shit, so if you aren't prepared to watch it subjectively with that in mind just keep on scrolling. I went into it neutral, and came out ok. I cannot say that for everything in the genre that I may happen across, but this anime stole my heart in a weird way that I actually wasn't ready for...

I just need to preface this review with the fact that I have an intense love in my heart for analytical, deep thinking and outside of the box "anything". I had such, such high hopes for this show. I mean, I poured through the reviews, and I was so freaking PUMPED. I was that kid who was obsessed with games on building, trading...empires...history... By the end of the 2nd season I was just F***** PISSED. The first season was sheer dent of will...this was a crucibal.
I really had to sit back an question the tastes of people and their anime, and really could not
...
wrap my head around all these stellar 9/10 reviews. There were so many glaring problems with this show, I just... can't. I do not mind slow. I can even suffer through boring. Monologues, sure why not? But this show really made me want to "reclaim my time". I cannot stand wishy-washy bi-polar a** characters and the femme fatale here just makes you want to punch a baby in the face. Yeah... I freaking said it. This show had so much hope and promise, but these sadistic a**hats (writers) have created something that was "breathtaking" and not in a good way...
Even if this was written with the "times" in mind in regards to humor and how things were laid out, I found myself wanting to rip my hair out from the lack of effing cohesion! You picked up some neat trading tidbits, but even half of that ish wasn't believable... furs become exponentially more expensive because they smell like f****** apples, and it could be used as a "tactic"... give me a f****** break...She is supposed to be the wise wolf yet she acts like a petulant child 90% of the time with 0 emotional control... he has fallen in love with a maniacal and abusive tyrant with a jacked up sense of justice ... *mega eye roll*... I was not going to leave a review because I was so disgusted, but after a few weeks, I just could not let this crap stand without throwing some spaghetti at the wall and hoping it sticks....
The only reason this show is not rated a 1 is that I totally respect the effort it took to tie this many threads of history together for educational purposes.

So in the beginning I was super hesitant to give this a shot due to the low-ish ratings. OMFG I am so freaking happy that I forged ahead anyways. Seriously, this show is SO damn underrated ...
It has a superbly woven mastery to it that you just do not find in a lot of shows, and I love a good sci-fi. Did I mention ACTION PACKED TO THE HILT?!! I know it is a remake so this opinion is based solely on this reboot. Are there a few corny moments that happen... yes. Will all be forgiven considering you will be hanging off
...
the edge of your seat more than once? Hell yes. I so respect a well thought out, cohesive story with believable characters more than I detest any other flaws I came across. The musical scores were simply amazing and so well timed, seriously bravo. It gave me a James Bond-esque vibe and I watched every single James Bond movie as a kid, so perhaps I am slightly biased. The character designs/set/costume were different and intriguing.
Best part? As an adult, I didn't feel like my senses were being dulled with fluffy filler or immature moments that I couldn't relate to.
Cons: The ship designs could have been a bit more "futuristic", but then again I believe the original story was written in the 70's/80's - (it was so much action that after a while I didn't even care). The alien races were all a bit too "humanoid" and they could have done better than just changing skin color, although the creativity with the worldbuilding (to me) offsets this. I wont spoil it, but the "miracle" that happens at the end might make you do an epic eyeroll.
I give this a 10 due to the fact I was literally drawn into the story like I haven't been in ages, and for someone who is not easily impressed that is priceless.

The animation style? Absolutely lovely. The sound? Man, they really outdid themselves with the scores.
The only reason that I cannot rate this higher is due to the extreme predictability of the plot. It was so painful at times that it was borderline cringe-worthy. I hung in there for the beautiful sound and animation. So many reviews calling it outstanding, and "the best thing since sliced bread" and I am just like... ok.... but this plot though...
I feel like they had one hell of a budget, but I need the story to make sense and all the fawning over her hair and the fire in
...
her eyes...really? The love aspect growing between Yona and Hawk IS sweet though. *shrug* a decent Saturday morning binge watch, but nothing to write home about.

Everyone else has already broken it down, so I am going to get right to the point. I needed something happy and this is a feel good anime that hits the nail on the head. Not only was I shocked to find myself actually busting at the seams laughing, this is the second time I have cried (watching anime) EVER... and as a tall woman, the inner child in me could soooo relate on so many levels. I just have all.the.feelz.
Cons: There were times where the lack of continuity of the art style and horridly done proportions got on my nerves, mixed with
...
a few spots of overly teeny bopper-ish behavior... ALL FORGIVEN BECAUSE OF ABOVE SAID AWESOMENESS.
If you aren't into slice of life (oddly enough this is contradictory since I am one of those people. I sway towards adult, serious, action packed, intense and/or thoroughly crafted plot lines)...then you may not like this. If you value raw emotion and slapstick comedy, give it a whirl - you will be happy you did!
