Overall I really like this anime.
While the characters are fairly one-dimensional, other aspects of the anime make it really enjoyable to watch. The premise is interesting, and while not unique it's different enough to stand out. The world and it's rules are gradually defined through the series and it's fun to learn about it along with the protagonist. While I'm sure more world building could be done, the amount this series has is definitely not bad. It's a fun and interesting world!
It's a nice anime to watch while winding down after a long day of work or school, or as a filler between other
...
series you're watching. It's very easy to relax to.

Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru is a very cute, sweet, laid back romance. Both the characters of Gojo and Marin are well written and distinctive from other protags in the romance genre. While there is a lot of fan service it's honestly fun and comical, and has a bit of that "friends teasing friends" thing going on (which many people seem to find unrealistic, but my friend group acts similarly, just less intense of course. We're probably just weird but eh) The plot of the anime can come down to 2 points: 1. Gojo expanding his horizons and coming out of his shell
...
and 2. The blossoming relationship between Gojo and Marin. Both characters I find very relatable in different ways, and watching the anime left me feeling happy. The last episode especially is very cute and sweet! (Make sure to watch after the ending song for more cuteness)
Many people are claiming this to be a "waifu bait" anime, but to be completely honest Marin has a very well written and distinguished personality. While this anime isn't full of deep, meaningful plot and a lot of things going on at once it definitely achieves what it sets out to do and it does it well. Creating a story of a shy boy who starts to learn confidence and expand his horizons and showing the growth of a sweet relationship.
I repeated myself a bit in this review but I hope that you could find it helpful!

As a movie for children, which this most certainly is, it works very very well. The story is good, although cliche and easy to guess what will happen. It's easy to understand while still giving plenty of things to think about. The only issue I had with this movie was the animation quality. It was ok, but there were very noticeable budget constraints. Most of the budget seems to have been used near the end of the movie, because there were some fairly well done scenes, but otherwise the animation gets a solid 4.5/10 from me. Watchable, but kinda janky.
Overall a sweet story about
...
dealing with loss. The loss of a loved one, loosing yourself, and trying to find your way.
If you're looking for something to watch with your kids this is a wonderful choice! Though, it might make you tear up a little.

Mostly spoiler free. One small one at the end, but you'll know it's coming before it's said. It's inconsequential to the plot.
I never thought I'd watch an anime that doesn't answer a single question.
Well, that's not quite accurate. It answers why there are kids doing parkour in an apocalyptic Tokyo. That's it. We don't learn anything other than that.
I have a lot of issues with this movie, many of which I can't discuss without spoilers, so I'll avoid talking about those issues. I think that some of the concepts of this anime could have made a really great movie if the story was
...
written different and handled differently. There wasn't much buildup for anything, there was rarely any explanation, and the characters were all done poorly. Even the characters that I was enjoying a bit initially ended up not being done well.
There are some animation issues during the parkour scenes, where characters don't look like they're touching the surfaces they are supposed to be bouncing off of or running on. The animators did a great job with all the flashy, complicated parkour moves and various different angles, but I would have rather seen less intense moves and some more standard camera angles if it meant the characters actually looked like they were running on the surface they were supposed to be running on.
The backgrounds are gorgeous and expertly executed. Some of the scenes are done in a more soft, detailed style on the characters, generally the scenes that they deemed the most important. Some of them contrasted too heavily with the standard style of the movie and had the characters looking somewhat off-model while others just looked too blurry in comparison to everything else. (I was watching in HD. There are times where facial features in this softer style were blurred while other aspects looked perfectly fine. They made some features TOO soft.)
Some of Uta's voice lines have horrible sound quality in comparison to every other character, mostly with her first speaking lines. Throughout the movie she has multiple different sounding voices, even in the span of a few seconds. It sounds like 3 slightly different characters but they're all supposed to be her.
The rest of my distaste for this movie comes from the story, and I won't go into much detail on that because I want to avoid spoilers. I had a LOT of issues with the story. My biggest being: We get no answers. No explanations aside from setting up the problem initially (Apocalyptic Tokyo in a Bubble and we don't know why). Characters are flat, thematic ideas that could have been cool are ruined by bad writing, moments that would have been really cool if they had leadup and explanations are ruined because they have none. There are aspects that are super predictable because it's what you see time and time again from this particular genre of anime movie. If this movie was done better I wouldn't have minded the predictability of it.
The one small, barely even a spoiler spoiler I will say is that the main character, Hibiki has auditory sensitivity. It's something he's struggled with since childhood. The movie does a great job setting this up and not making it a feature of his character but just something he lives with. They even showed some of the struggles and discrimination he's faced for it! But they make a huge mistake. After a certain point in the movie he just doesn't have his sensitivity anymore. They got rid of it to emphasize his "Character Growth", which is in horrible taste.
This review ended up being longer than intended. I just have a lot of thoughts on this one, not many of which are good.

I'm just going to bulletpoint all my thoughts. Overall, this anime was ok and kept me entertained.
Pros:
-Interesting plot points
-Has an original spin on the usual vampire content
-Has some very likeable characters
Neutral:
-A lot of the cast is sexualized women. Honestly it doesn't really bother me, but it's just something I noticed in this anime more than I do in most. I think it had to do with the genre clashing with having so many sexualized women, since I'm used to that mostly from more lively/ upbeat anime.
...
Cons:
-The direction is awful. I can see where they were going with a lot of the shots and I appreciate that the got creative with aspect ratios, but the techniques they used were often used too much and some of the camera angles were just strange. A lot of the cuts between scenes were choppy too (Intentionally choppy can be an effective tool if used well, but these were not.)
-The main character is boring. This anime is from a decade ago so I can somewhat forgive this, since over the years this type of protagonist has been used to death and become stale.
-I feel like the pacing would be better if you read it. The first "problem" that gets solved goes at a decent pace, but the subsequent problems after are rushed.
-There are a lot of things that aren't explained until later about the world which would have benefited the series to explain sooner.
-We get little information and consistency on how vampire powers work or what parameters they fall into.
-We get next to no information on werewolves
-The handling of the relationship between the 17 year old and 13 year old was distasteful. Having immoral relationships in media isn't something I'm against, despite obviously being against these types of relationships irl. That being said, I honestly believe that they should have handled this relationship differently.

Overall: has massive potential.
This feels like the plot of a video game, but as a movie instead. I think if the WAS a video game the story would be much better, thanks to more character interaction, flavour text, and time (for story to develop, the world to be fleshed out, etc). I heard that this is based off of a series, which has actual character development and moments that are more than just "depression" or "action" moments. The overall feel of this movie is a depressing, dark tone. Which is cool! I love series that have a dark/depressing theme to them, however there weren't really
...
any fluctuations in emotion throughout the movie. It just leaves the viewer with a sense that they're supposed to feel sad without much change (even with increased sadness! It's just the same level!) throughout.
I'm going to check out the series this was based off of because it can really benefit from the extra time a series allows for. I'm also looking forward to more moments of different emotion. Looking at other reviews I feel safe to recommend the series it was based off of over the movie.

I think this anime had potential. I think rather than having the 'cases' be solved in one episode the ones with the strongest plots should have taken a couple episodes to complete and the ones with weaker plots should be dropped. I think that some of the sub plots really had good potential both for character development and emotional stakes. The addition of the main villain of the series overall detracted from the plot, rather than adding to it, and I think he should honestly not be a part of the story. If he is, he should be written as a better foil to "Holmes".
...
Along with extending the time it takes to solve the cases I think we also need more time for character development, and to even just learn more about the characters. They are written very stiff, as if they only have a couple surface level personality traits each. (This is mostly noticeable with the main two, Holmes and Aoi. With a lot of the other charters it's actually excusable or not even the case for them) While these characters are easier to keep consistent it's boring and makes them sem more like robots than people.
In short, if these things were to happen it would be a very good romance series:
1. Get rid of unnecessary/uninteresting sub plots
2. Expand on the interesting subplots
3. More time for character development and looking more into their lives rather than the shallow glimpses we get constantly
4. Actually flesh out the characters, give the main ones more than a couple personality traits. *This is probably the worst part of the series. You want to like the characters, and they occasionally have good moments, but then go back to being robots!
5. Completely revise the main villain, both in character and in story. Keep the core essence, but make it less "I'm pooping up just to mess with you, then I'm leaving" and more "You're in my way" AND "I'm going to get in your way in a meaningful way, that actually serves a purpose for me."

Pros:
-Some of the character are genuinely likeable
-the love-triangle storyline is actually a bit interesting
-most of the boys are in the club because they want to be
Cons:
-some of the boys DO NOT want to be in the club.
-too much talk of non-consensual things, and even some non-consensual things happen. Very icky and ruins any enjoyment of the series
-the pink haired guy takes his crazy act too far to be enjoyable
...
Overall thoughts:
If the series wasn't filled with non-consensual acts and talk I would have enjoyed it. I would have been able to give it a higher score, like a 7 or an 8. What's important to remember is that this is p*rn, while some have good story lines it's rare. The storyline in this show is actually decent once you remove a lot of the non-consensual stuff (the love triangle is actually interesting because of the personalities at play, though it is of course toxic and drama filled thanks to one of the characters. That's ok, and even a small amount of non-consensual stuff would have been fine IF it was punished rather than being a lot of it that is basically written off). Animation is pretty mediocre, but again that's kind of the norm for this level of adult content. The ending song is actually pretty good! It's catchy and fun, and the video to go with it looks good.

Spoiler-Free Review
Overall I think this anime was "fine". It definitely has it's cliches and some moments that I felt were pretty "meh" but the story was cute, endearing, and had some nice creative elements to it. The characters weren't bad, and I honestly did enjoy it. Is it my favourite anime? Do I want to make loads of fanart for it? Nah. But was it worth watching? Yeah, definitely. It's an anime that is interesting but one that you don't feel like you need to binge watch, so it's pretty easy to enjoy when you're between tasks during the day, or even as a
...
pallet cleanser while binging another show or shows. There isn't a lot in the (animated) shojo genre (to my dismay) so i was happy to stumble across this one! While not knock-your-socks-off amazing, not everything has to be. It's a very welcome edition to the genre!

This anime is a ride. I'll be making my review spoiler-free. I'll also try to make it short and sweet, but I have a lot to say about this show.
While this anime definitely wouldn't be considered "good" it is one of the most enjoyable things I've watched in a long time. There's a lot of cheesiness in the beginning, but the plot line and sub plots are genuinely interesting and had plenty of unexpected twists, turns, and answers.
the character dialogue is stiff and awkward, but does improve over time. Character personalities are also a bit strange and unrealistic... however I don't dislike the
...
characters. The two main characters really grow on you as you watch, and the poor dialogue writing and weird characterization somehow make them even more endearing.
The first 4 episodes are probably the most intense, with maybe the strangest story line out of the whole series. The beginning is pretty abrupt, and fast paced. A lot of information is thrown at you within just these first 4 episodes, but even though the pacing is so fast it's still a very enjoyable watch.
As the anime goes along the pacing does improve (a little), and it becomes more like a detective mystery show with hints of an overarching plot throughout.
The last episode wraps up almost everything. It's still unclear what a certain character's motivations are, and his story line doesn't get finished which kind of sucks. Other than that, everything else gets closure. (Albeit, in a very abrupt manner. It felt like I was given a really good summary of events rather than watching the story at times.)
Overall, my opinion is that this anime is a solid 7 with the potential to be a 10. If the character dialogue was improved, along with the pacing (and with that, giving more detail and fleshing out the story more) then this series would be improved dramatically.
Now, just for some warnings for those who have sensitivities to certain content. This anime has mentions of, or plot involving, a lot of sensitive topics. In fact, there aren't many sensitive topics that aren't at least mentioned in this anime. Some things include: slight gore (just a good amount of blood), illusion to unsavory things happening between a priest and a young boy, demon worship/summoning, sacrifices, murder, domestic violence, and war atrocities. Also, potentially racist and or religious intolerance towards native Africans (in their depiction, not in the characters' treatments.
