I went on the web to look for some new anime to watch since I haven't really explored that many anime. While searching I came across an anime called Angel Beats! So without looking at descriptions or reviews I decided to wing it and give the 13 episode anime a shot. From the get go it had an intriguing story. A guy wakes up to find a girl with a gun recruiting him to fight against God. The story really got a grip on my interest from that point on.
The story was very well done for the series on being 13 episodes long.

The concept is that when people die and don't have a good childhood the end up in an afterlife. All episodes showed more and more of the story and it never lacked in action and occasionally gives the feels everyone once in awhile. One thing I would like to give a lot of credit on is the way the writers really made you really got to know and understand the character's purpose for being in that world. Once the characters are finally are at peace they are obliterated. All of these back stories for these characters cause you to get the feels. Everyone had tragic experience in their childhood that brought them to that world.
Yui's story may have been the most touching because of her situation. Her story was so sad but she finally got to experience most of her dreams but one. When she couldn't complete her last dream she explains that she always wanted to get married. When Hinata comes in and swears in the real world and the afterlife no matter what handicaps there may be they will get married no matter what, it gave the feels and even a few tears of joy. That was one of the most heart-touching moments I had ever seen in the anime that I've watched.
Not to mention how great Angel's character is. She at first worked as the antagonist and worked against the Battlefront. Later on Otonashi opens up to Angel after they caused her to lose her spot as student council president. You always saw her with no friends, and emotionless but something sparks when Otonashi becomes her friend. I really liked how the writers portrayed her throughout the series. At first an enemy and at the very end she became a great to everyone.
I have mixed feelings about the ending. It got my emotions and feelings to the point were a few tears came out. At the same time I really didn't want it to end the way it did but it was still an great way to end the series.
Art wise the anime was great. The anime was very detailed from the concerts, to the rainy nights nothing but a superb art. Nothing else really to say about the art.
Sound was also great. The background music fitted Angel Beats very well. More importantly the songs played by the bands were not only really good but they also worked well the anime. From the faster songs like "Alchemy" to the slower song where Iwasawa sang with her treasured guitar. The timing for music was also very good and I had no problems with it.
Overall enjoyment was definitely a solid 9/10! The story was great and had me wanting more after every episode. The fact the we got to know the characters and get close to them was superb as well. Art and sound were great as well and there were no problems in my opinion. The only thing I have mixed feelings about is the ending.
