I expected Ben-To to be a generic harem anime about how the main character uses bentos to makes girls fall in love with him. (Ok, that might not be generic, but still, I expected something along those lines) Thankfully, I was wrong, or else I would've dropped it right at the spot. Ben-To is an anime that I never expected to enjoy so much, yet I did because of the good comedy, awesome action, unique characters, and, most of all, the shock factor that it both revolves around food, and they're literally risking getting beat up for that food!!
Story: 8/10
Basically, Sato Yo went to get
...
a half-priced bento one day, but then he got beaten up and loses consciousness. When he wakes up, he has no memory of what happened in the supermarket. A girl then warns him (Sen Yarizui, AKA the ice witch) never to go to the supermarket again. However, Sato goes again with his friend, Oshiroi Hana, and gets beat up again. Yarizui then invites them to the Half Priced Food Lovers Club, where she teaches them all about being a "wolf" (figher for half-priced bentoes)
The story is very comedic, with Sato getting embarrassed and the fights full of action-packed battles. The characters have their own special names, which the "wolves" refer to by. Then, there are "boars," "wolves pride" and "rulers of the east and west". This turns the plot into a great story, basically talking about how much fighting for bentos mean to them. It's surprisingly deep, for an anime about food. I'm also surprised how there are rankings, and how they use everyday supermarket items as weapons. Overall, a good story.
Art: 7/10
Standard anime art. It's colorful, but the art style has been used a lot of times. Not good, yet not bad, either. Looks good, scenes are animated great. There really is nothing else to say besides that.
Sound: 8/10
The seiyuu did a great job, doing voices that fit the characters perfectly. The BGM was good, but aside from the battle scenes it's pretty average. The OP is upbeat, which fits a series like this one. The ending was not bad, but the song didn't really fit the series, in my opinion.
Character: 9/10
This is one of the categories where it truly shines. Character design and seiyuu fits the character's respective personality, and everyone had a colorful and unique personality, which blends into the overall story and humor. I also got attached to some of them, like Orthrus and Ice Witch. Everyone was great, and I found the characters to be very enjoyable with their interaction with each other. Only downside is that there's barely any character development, but I didn't really expect it to cover every character's backstory in a mere 12 episodes, or even 3-4 characters. Still, it didn't hinder the experience for me and the characters are fun to watch even though.
Enjoyment: 9/10
I laughed, and laughed, and laughed, and laughed. I also couldn't believe how deep this anime was, and how an anime about FOOD would be one of my most favorite in this season. The action scenes were cool, and the story was unbelievable. This all adds to the experience, however.
Overall: 8/10
If you like comedy, action, and totally unbelievable concept in one anime, look no further. This isn't your generic ecchi, action, or comedy. This is a whole other experience, an experience I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy.

I first heard of School Days as a psychological anime, and I totally agree with that. This anime shows you how doing certain things and not doing certain things to a girl will hurt their minds so badly it will be beyond repair. Literally. Romance is not a thing to be taken lightly.
Story: 8/10 *MIGHT CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS*
It starts innocently enough. Makoto, your average high school guy, likes this girl, Kotonoha, and doesn't know how to confess, etc. Then, Sekai comes along, and helps him. A love triangle forms, and it's basically how an average romantic love triangle starts. Makoto starts being perverted, Kotonoha doesn't
...
know how to react, and Sekai starts "training" him in the art of getting a girl. This is where it takes a turn for the worse. Makoto starts having feelings for Sekai, and they cheat behind Kotonoha's back. Then, 2 more girls, Setsuna and Otome, started to like him, and a complicated and perverted romantic relationship occurs, with Makoto, being the perverted bastard he is, starts to bounce between the girls, having sex with them too (except Kotonoha, sadly). As if it could get any worse, a big plot twist appears. Seriously. I really expected the plot twist, but it was sickening nevertheless.
Then in the ending Makoto gets what he deserves.
The ending was when I was shouting "hell yeah!" to my computer because seriously. The ending was that fulfilling. Makoto got what he deserves in the end, and trust me, you'll hate him as much (if not more) than I do. The scene was awesomely done too, and it made me sick to my stomach to see how horrifying the ending is. It almost justifies how the rest of the series played out, but not exactly. I found the story to be truly unbelievable. 4 girls liking the same guy? Them having sex and not getting pregnant? Unbelievable! Oh, I also have to note it's adapted from a H-game, so expect many inferences about sex scenes here. I guess that the original game had a harem ending, but there was a VERY messed up ending, which is what they adapted here. The producers are assholes, to not even adapt the WORST ENDING POSSIBLE from the H-game, and make one themselves. According to wikipedia, there were 3 bad endings, where either Makoto, Sekai, or Kotonoha dies. I'm guessing they created their own bad ending, because the anime ending is not in there.
Rants aside, the story is great for sickening your stomach and teaching you a lesson: Karma's a bitch and how NOT to treat a girl.
Art/Animation: 9/10
The art fits this anime, with their eyes animated to show their emotion at any given point. As I said, it also tricks you into thinking this is your average romantic anime, which has its props, knowing how sickening this show is.
Sound: 7/10
The opening did not fit the anime. It was way too cheery knowing the tone of this. BGM was okay, it didn't really set the mood for me. The seiyuus did a pretty good job with their characters, though I thought Sekai's seiyuu doesn't fit her character, but maybe that's just only me. And I felt sometimes their voices did not fit the situation either. Again, maybe it's just only me.
I just felt the sound was average.
Character: 5/10
I gave a 5/10, not in a good way, but of how much you'll hate the characters so much. Makoto is my most HATED character of all time, whose a horny, selfish bastard that doesn't care about who he hurts and who he doesn't. All he cares about is getting laid. When I first watched it, I really didn't get what's with the hate surrounding Makoto. Now after I watched everything, I know. To wish that he would stop being a stupid asshole and actually get a clue of what's going on was actually a great feeling, and when the ending came I cheered and cheered, as I mentioned.
I hated the girls too. They were your generic, anime girls, but still. Clueless as hell, mostly selfish except for Setsuna, who shows a little unselfishness, no character development, etc. The only girl I cared about was Kotonoha, and that was out of pity more than love. Overall, a 5/10. I applaud how much I can hate EVERY.SINGLE.CHARACTER. in an anime, which I thought would never be possible. The only thing that was good about the characters was the design, but that's it!
Enjoyment: 6/10
In terms of a psychological anime, which I love, it was horrible! I didn't enjoy it, and found myself thinking "why did I watch this shit???" in the ending, despite the good ending. And I was sick to the stomach all the time, to the point where I had to pause the video to calm myself down. And I didn't like it. The first few eps were also a surprise for me, which played as a stupid romance, which I don't watch much.
TL;DR, I didn't like it. Call me a hater if you shall.
Overall 8/10
I found this to be very interesting. The characters I despite with a passion, and combined with a story like this one, it's a masterpiece in dark storytelling.
Morals will be learned. Hate will be formed towards the characters. Shock will constantly enter your mind. This is first, and foremost, a psychological anime, so don't expect lovey-dovey crap. Expect to hate, and hate, and hate even more. This is what I experienced when I watched School Days.

Money is a very important part of our lives. To even do anything, you need money. Food? Money. Anime? buy a computer, which costs money. Clothes? Money. The only thing I can think of that won't cost money to build or maintain is yourself. So what do you do when you desperately need money, fast? Kaiji's answer to this question is to gamble for it. And damn, there's a hell of a lot of gambles in this anime.
Basically, the story revolves around Itou Kaiji, who's broke and also in debt for about 3 million yen. Some black suits come and talks him into gambling on
...
a ship to pay off his debt. There's a catch, however. Fail, and he will be forced to do manual labor on an island for 1-2 years. Getting 3 wins (stars) allows him to get off the ship. However, a star will be taken away for each loss. And this is only the first arc. The second arc pits Kaiji on a bridge, the third on a bridge that's electrocuted, another settling with a card game(and a very interesting one at that), and another a lottery. All of these arcs are very interesting, in their own way. Morals, Luck, Right or Wrong, Cheating, and Greed are only some of the things it discusses over the series. Mind that the story is also dark and very psychological.
The art has it's own distinct style. I admit I was turned off by it at first, but then I grew to like it. The animation is very smooth and flawless.
Sound was pretty good. The right BGM at the right moments, and the theme songs kind of fits Kaiji's tone. The voices were perfect for each character (except for Furuhata, didnt like his voice)
Each main and supporting character is very different in their own special way, mostly guys. Kaiji is really a character that I can relate to. He will be betrayed, lose limbs, sees the deaths of his comrades, and thrown into impossible gambles and still Kaiji survives it, mostly through mixed emotions and strategic planning. The rest of the cast is memorable, except the lackeys in which Kaiji usually tells them to do stuff (you'll see what I mean)
I enjoyed it a lot. More than I expected to enjoy it. Kaiji's character, the daredevil gambles, the strategic planning, everything! Well, almost everything. Some of the plans will make you think "why the hell would you do that" and the bad ending might be a turn-off to some people.
Overall, a 9/10. Trust me, you'll have a good time with this series.
BTW this is my first review, please give me feedback on this!!! Thanks!
