A surprisingly charming show that is recommended for anyone who likes the concept of an isekai anime about a gaming world, but who has so far been disappointed with the other entries in the genre that focus more on the power fantasy aspect. Not that this show doesn't also contain that power fantasy aspect, but it is very much not the focus and takes more of a backseat to the parody aspects of the show.
The dynamic of the main duo is pleasure to watch. The antics of the reliable veteran gamer teaching cheeses to their "student" is a rare one which I haven't often
...
seen.
The show is entirely in CGI, but the quality has long progressed past the days of that being jarring. The consistency of it makes it actually quite appealing, not to mention the fact that the CG nature works quite well to give the feeling of the CGI models of an actual RPG of this type.
The final thing that should be noted is that there are versions of this in both the Chinese and Japanese languages. I myself watched the Japanese version and can attest that the voice acting is on par with any other traditional anime. That being said, I can't speak to the Chinese version, so I will leave that aspect to others. The Japanese OP and ED are particularly of note for really capturing the fun-natured and adventurous tone of the show.
All in all, a pleasant surprise of a show that should be enjoyable to most who have an interest in gaming isekai.

Kyou mo Onnanoko wo Kouryaku shita feels like a manga that does exactly what it says on the tin. At it's core, it is a very simple yuri gag manga with a heavy focus on the main character, Kasumi, making friends and developing her personality. That being said, the "personality" she develops is perhaps better described as a set of interests, as her actual personality ends up remaining surprisingly static. She's very much the perfect girl - good at everything, kind to a fault, and a bit naive. There's not really much to improve on, hence the focus more on things like hobbies, friends, and
...
general interests.
The manga is cute, with nice light-hearted stories and simple gags continuing throughout. There's some minor "drama" if you want to call it that, but nothing heavy and also nothing that isn't resolved within an individual chapter. This is the second manga I've ever read, yet even so, it feels extremely unremarkable. There's nothing that will really surprise the reader, but also nothing worthy of criticizing (aside from potentially its banality).
Calling the manga "unremarkable" or "banal", as well as the rating of "Mixed Feelings" may falsely give the impression that the work is not very good. This is certainly not the case. For those who consistently consume CGDCT media with a penchant for yuri, this will certainly scratch that itch. And that's all I think the manga is really trying to do - to scratch a somewhat niche itch. Because of that, it certainly is not a manga that just anyone should pick up, however if you are the type of person to be drawn to the synopsis, then I would wholeheartedly recommend this almost as a sort of "filler" piece. For everyone else, I would say you probably shouldn't expect too much, as even though the manga is good, it's certainly not good enough to change your opinion or draw you in if you're not already interested in CGDCT or yuri.

Gakkou Gurashi, from beginning to end, is a true emotional journey that the author guides you through to extremely great effect. This review will contain spoilers for the premise of the manga, but none regarding the major plot points. There is novelty in experiencing the story completely blind, however understanding the premise takes away nothing from the mastery of the work. In my case, I had already watched the anime before reading the manga and that detracted absolutely nothing from the experience.
With that in mind, spoilers for the premise below:
The story follows the main characters of the "school living club", who are
...
trying to live their lives and survive at school in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. The author heavily invests you in this cast of characters as he takes both them and you as the reader through a dark tunnel that you can't see the end of. This, in my opinion, is one of the best aspects of the piece. As you progress, the tunnel just gets darker, and darker - until eventually even the concept of light itself seems like a distant memory. The only thing preventing that darkness from consuming everything is the connection that both you and the characters have to each other. That's not to say that the story is all dark - in fact, far from it. There are moments of levity, humorous jokes, and truly heartwarming moments as well. As with life, the story very much takes you through all the highs and lows you could ever expect. Whenever these moments appear, they also feel that much brighter precisely because of the surrounding darkness.
Regarding the technical aspects (art, writing, layout, etc), everything is perfectly suitable for the story being told. I will leave the finer details of those points to other reviewers, as to me the main appeal (and thing I often see least expressed) is the emotional impact. At the end of the day, how it makes you feel will leave a much more lasting impression than any technical facet. That being said, I will draw special attention to the facial expressions. The artist masterfully uses these to convey such subtle emotions that at times they alone are sufficient to tell the story. On multiple occasions while reading, a simple smile, or change of the eyes, or grimace of the face could bring me to tears without even a single word being uttered.
If the premise even has a passing interest to you - whether you are a fan of survival stories, zombie stories, or even just CGDCT (as is my case), I simply cannot recommend this manga enough. My only caution (particularly to those more on the sensitive side like I am) is to prepare your heart for the endeavor, but aside from that, simply open yourself up to the characters and you will end up just as attached to them as they are to each other.
