MINOR SPOILER ALART
Ghost in the shell is one of those movies that requires not just a single but couple rewatches to completely grasp the complex ,thought provoking and quit gripping story it is. The first scene shows the team of section 9 lead by the major help another sector in the assassination of foreign diplomat, although the full context of the beginning act is yet to be fully comprehended at the start .The scene not only introduces us to this neo steam cyberpunk setting that is New Port City but also gives us an in depth look of the backward dealings of the

high up government and manipulation of its police force.
The main core of characters are the team of divers individuals of the section 9 police force, divers in the nature of cybernetics ,in the world of ghost in a shell, people have embraced the culture of cyber augmentation and cybernetic enhancement to fit what ever field they are in . For example the Major is a android with thermo camouflage skin suit and her partner and Batou has special eye implants with thermo scan and other optic capabilities.
The musical score by Kenji provides a hunting yet sometime tranquil melodies fit for the beautiful yet grim setting that is New Port City. In one scene as major wakes up and opens her curtains to the the city and walks out on her way to the station ,the score which plays as she takes in the sites of the clustered ,grimy yet beautiful architecture perfectly drawn and animated by Production IG. The score is not only fitting for the deep complex subject matter the movie tackles but it enhances it ten fold especially in the final act.
However the movie is plagued by too much political and technological dialog that does little to progress the plot nor any necessary lore to the introspective world that is New Port city, its larger political governance and technological developments. This being a slight critique to a very well constructed set of characters with different strengths and weaknesses that complement each other. I very much appreciate the fact the movie doesn't hold back or dumb down the dialogue giving viewers room to rewatch to properly comprehend the story.
The cell animation of the 90s anime movies are ones i am very much in love with, be it Akira or Perfect Blue. The environments in the movie are beautiful and i always find myself marveling at the scenes over and over again, especially in one of the scenes where the major and Batou follow a suspect through the streets of New Port City and are intrenched in a superbly animated gun fight filed with a glorious explosion and a well choreographed fist fight, all to bare testament to the good work done by production IG studio.
The Antagonist is also a well constructed character born of the world that ghost in the shell is set in and doesn't quit file the role of villain based on the fact that as the story progresses , we discover a dark underlining secret of the ministry of internal affairs rooted in greed and manipulation. All this brings forth a complex grey area which the core cast find them selves in, fiting for such a grim tale.
