Both are very psychological shows where the apathetic protagonist is deeply exploring the question of what is love (even its darker aspects like jealousy) and pursuing not very ethical routes of finding a complete answer to that, and none of the other characters are acting very ethically either. The sapphic content is handled better in Happy Sugar Life than in Kuzu no Honkai, but it's not handled terribly in the latter either. If the pedophilic content did not turn you off from Happy Sugar Life, you will do just fine with Kuzu no Honkai since there is some (albeit much less) pedophilic content in it too. Unlike Happy Sugar Life, the protagonist of Kuzu no Honkai did not have a childhood that haunts her, and instead she starts out quite naive and becomes more and more jaded as the story progresses and she discovers more and more about the realities of what society calls "love". Kuzu no Honkai is not a horror anime the way Happy Sugar Life is, but it is still a fairly dark psychological drama with similar themes.

Two very well-written yanderes, working hard to protect their loved ones from a dark, violent world. Happy Sugar Life is a good bit more disturbing than Mirai Nikki, but if you liked Yuno Gasai and are tired of finding yandere characters that try and fail to replicate her, you will also love Satou Matsuzaka not because she tries to mimic the infamous Goddess of Yanderes but because she carries the yandere genre in a way that is very compelling and unique to her character and story. Also, both shows are very short at only one season each.
