After rewatching this series for the 3rd time I think a review is in order.
This review might include minor spoilers, but no major ones.
Re:zero have a special place in my heart, thanks to this series I had 4 of my closest friends (3 of them who didn't watch anime that often) to watch this show and we could talk about it, and we all loved it (we all gave 9 - 10 in score).
First impression: My first impression of the series wasn't all that good, Subaru (the main character) is transported to another world by yet unknown means. Or well, we know that a

Witch, called The Witch of Envy dragged him there, but we don't know how. He seemed to me like another dense and slow character we often sees in boy meets fantasy world stories. I hated how it seemed so sweet and bright, like a sweeter version of Sword art Online (Yes.. sweeter!).
Boy I was so wrong.
The opening scene is what made me want to see more, even tho the first episode was so boring, where Subaru lies dying on the floor, I wanted to see what that was about. The first episode was split into 2 episodes (episode 1A /1B), which I am glad they did, cuz I am sure many people would've dropped it not wanting to wait another week for that (once again, it wasn't that bad IMO that it was worth dropping after just the first episode, but I know it was boring enough for other people). In the second part things finally strated to happen, and I started to see the potential in the anime.
Story 10: I don't want to spoil so I will keep this short, or try too atleast.
The story is about our failure as a Human Subaru who does nothing but sit in his room watching anime, playing video games and doing his buissines every day (he does work out sometimes tho hehe) which is something I can relate to. He is dragged into another world, where he is saved from thugs by a very sweet and kind girl named Emilia. After spending some time with her, Subaru finds himself feeling indebted to her and is trying to retrive something that was stolen from her. Subaru get caught up in trouble on his quest and finds out that what was stolen from Emilia is a much bigger deal than he could've ever thought. Subaru dies, but he then "respawns" at a present location and time with his memories intact, but no one else remembers what happened after he was at the spawn location the first time. And there's another thing, he can NOT talk about this power he has (to respawn/return by death) because he is "cursed". You kinda get it now right? It's a like a video game where the respawn locations are like save points, except that it's real life for him (and to die really does hurt, well... most times atleast).
Art 9: I don't really have much to say about art, but I can say that "The Garden of Words" is a 10, One Punch-Man is also a 10 for me even to it's not as beautiful, but the animation is better IMO. This was not as good as OPM on the animation part, but not far away. And the art was pretty much just as good as OPM. It really looks like a new anime lets just put it that way, which is good for this category (art).
Sound 8: The opening, the outros, the background music, was really appealing. I REALLY like that the cast (the voice acters) was singing in sveral songs used in Re:Zero. Takahashi Rie (Emilia) and Minase Inori (Rem) both have such a beautiful voice. Tho if I must choose I think Stay alive by Takahashi was the best. The sound effects are also well made, and the voices of the characters was made by a very good microphone (I think it was good cuz the sound was clear haha).
Character 10: Guess what? Re:Zero prbably have the best characters (quantity) in any anime I've seen (if we exclude series like HxH and One Piece etc. because they are so long and have so many more characters). Rem, Subaru, Emilia, Betelgeuse, All the Witches and the list goes on. They are all VERY well written characters, Betelgeuse is one of the main antagonists in the anime, everybody hates him, he is made to be hated because he is so crazy, but he is so damn well written and unique that I found myself liking him (not his actions tho hehe). The characters and story have so much more potential to be even better as well, since the story is still on going.
Enjoyment 10: I would be lying if I didn't give this a solid 10. When Re:Zero was airing it was all I was talking about when talking about anime. I was so hyped for each and every episode (after like episode 7 it became like this). Until episode 7 it was going from 4 in the first episode to 7 in the second and going up to 10 in the 7th. There is only 1 episodes I thought did not deserve a 10 out of all episodes after 7, you will probably know (or already knows if you've seen it already) which episode that is if you decide to watch it. A hint, it's because Subaru f**ks up.
Overall 10: While I have spoken very highly of this anime in my review, and I gave it a 10, I still think ofcourse that there are better animes out there. Like Hunter x Hunter (2011), Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Code Geass (unless they screw up the newly announced season), and Clannad After Story, which are the 4 best animes I know and is on a score on their own. I still think Re:Zero is worthy of the highest score, it has so many thing, it hads comedy/laughter, horror, saddness/suffering, romance, unique characters and a very STILL promising story. I hope to see more Re:Zero in the future, I would easily learn japanese just to read the novels, lucky me someone (translationchicken) is kind enough to translate the webnovel. Just google it if you want to read it yourself!
I do hope I got someone to upvote my review, this is my 2nd review after all. I didn't really make a good first review so hope this one was better! Please let me know! If it sucks... please be gentle!
Merry christmas everyone from Sweden! Yes we celebrate on the 24th.

Ah so the time has come for a review for this beutiful yet terrifying anime.
When you're looking for a masterpiece disguised as an anime, you may want to check Gosick out. I was very sceptical at the first episode, but I guess the first episode of most animes is just so you will get to "know" the anime and the main character/s. I thought it was boring and yet another tsundere girl and a crybaby as the male MC, but after I kept watching things got interesting fast. Story: 10 This anime doesn't really have 1 story where the anime goes from A in the first episode to ... |
