Plot is absolute mess, the supposed main storyline, Sophie trying to turn back into her true young self, is abandoned after 20 minutes of the movie. She embraces being an old lady like it's nothing, completely unbothered that she could die soon from an old age. Ocassionally she changes back into her young self but neither she nor others seem to notice and no one reacts to it. Which begs the question, what the hell is that supposed to be? The scenes of this happenning are so random and inconsistent it's impossible to come up with a working explanation because there's always a scene to
...
which it doesn't apply. Many things happen, without explanation or elaboration like the people behind the story either didn't know what to do with them or were completely unbothered. The scarecrow being a sentinent being doesn't seem to bother to interest anyone and in the last minute of the movie it's revealed that he's a human being.
Apparently this movie is an adaptaton of the books and it seems like they tried to cram entire plot into one movie which simply doesn't work.

I feel tricked by the synposis and the positive reviews that imply this... thing has a plot. It doesn't. There's absolutely nothing of importance in this movie that has and significance on the main plot. All characters other than Puck and Emilia don't matter and exist solely for this movie.
"Plot"
The world hates Emilia. We're being sold the notion that she's the kindest girl in the world but everyone just has to hate her unreasonably, even spirits who, one would think, wouldn't act as irrationally as Humans. We get artificial, shallow conflict to justify flashy fight between Puck and the villian of the movie, specifically created
...
solely for the movie and not to be remembered.
Another thing that's worth noting and to be kept in mind is that this movie is a prologue. In spite of that writers try to trick us, more than once, that our heroes are going to die. Even though they're alive and well in the main story.
Characters,
Since Emilia's number one simp is absent the story has to replace him with number 2 greatest simp-Puck. He's doing what he always does, protects Emilia and tells her how great she is.
Do you expect Emilia to break out of her damsel-in-distress archetype? Being kind is still her only defining trait.
This movie could easily be turned into regular 20 minutes episode, it'd still be poor but we wouldn't waste so much time on watching this ultimately pointless story. I regeret wasting mine knowing I wouldn't miss anything if I just carried straight into season 2. I specifically avoided the other Re:Zero movie because it seemed like it had no plot relevance, focusing on Emilia and Subaru going on a date, but this movie is worse because it doesn't have it either while pretending the opposite.

I give this anime solid 7 because my expactations were extremely low even though the MAL ratings give overall 6.
SPOILER FREE
It's no exaggeration to say that the first episodes were a nightmare to me. Subaru is so unlikable I thought I wouldn't make it past Ep5. Why? He has neither brains nor personality. Arguably, you could say that being Emilia's simp is his personaliy and, unfortunately, it stays that way until the very end. When he's seriosuly wounded and about to die what do you think goes through his head?
How Much pain he's in from the vicious wound he was inflcited with?
His life
...
that's about to end? His parents? Friends?
No, all he's worried about is the pretty girl he's known for less than 12 hours and that he wants to save her. Can you imagine being a plot device and protagonist at the same time? Dreadful.
Hoewever, Re:Zero should be given credit for one thing- it gives Subaru quite tremendous, considering low anime standards that is, character development. Episode 13 was very delightful for me to watch. In this Ep Subaru does what all protagonists tend to do- lash out in anger in disregard to situation they and everyone else is in and impose their own self-righteousness on everyone. Generally, they all get away from it because they suddenly geet a burst of power that allows them to defeat an enemy and everyone is overhwlemed by their willpower. This nonsense doesn't work in Re:Zero and thank goodness for that.
Emilia is a huge stain that I wish was removed from the show permanently. She can be summarized in points:
-She's pretty
-she's good-hearted
-she's a amsel in distress
Emilia doesn't accomplish anything. She's a child that need to be constantly protected and if things aren't that dire she needs a babysitter to watch over her. The only reason she's important isbecause Subaru has a huge abnormal crush on her. Her kindness is very often overrated and treated as if she was a saint.
MINOR SPOILER (Emilia/Rem Romance)
Subaru's reasoning for falling in love with her is that she saved him which is... cheap and laughable. He refers to the first timeline in which Emiia got rid of 3 petty criminals. As we saw he could handle things by himself and there were others who'd interefere to help him- Reinhard. More importantly, Emilia wasn't in danger either, she had a huge advanatage being a magic user and she didn't break a sweat. In spite of that he acts as if it was a huge deal. Rem goes far greater lengths in ordder to help/save Subaru in one episode than Emilia does in entire series. This makes Subaru's love for her all the more superficial.Let's be honest, the main reason why Emilia is so overly favoured by him and the writers is becaue she's pretty. Her design stands out more making her a better poster girl than Rem.
END OF SPOILER
Characters tend to be inconsistent, in one episode they may, out of nowhere, go on murderous rampage and in another they're all friendly and supportive. It all seems to be for the sake of making unforeseen(illogical) plot twists that lead to Subaru's failure. On the birght side, they don't happen too often.
Pacing could be better, I think Subaru's last attempt was forced and the plot twist that lead to it was... nonsensical. If producers really wanted to have 25 episodes they could have spend more time on answering questions. Some of them are from the first 5 episodes. In fact, a lot of things are left unanswered and that's hugely due to Subaru not having the brain to ask questions. His condition in particular.
MINOR SPOILER
The Witch seems to instil fear in majority if not entire cast but in spite of that most don't mind that Subaru's has her scent on him, no one elaborates what it could mean nor gives him any valuable information, they don't seem very interested either. Moreover, Subaru never even triesto seek wisdom from Spirits like Puck or Beatrice. It feels like an artificial procrastination.
END OF SPOILER
Overall, it's not bad in spite of many illogical turns of events(like Subaru starting to bleed several moments after being sliced with a blade. Only the moment he realizes he failed to block the attack). Compared to what Isekai animes have to offer in general I'd say it does better job than them.

I rated the 1st part 7/10 but this gets 5/10 . It gets messy.
Spoiler Free(not much of a story to spoil to be fair).
Majority of the cast is irrelevant, they're just girls with weapons. Kurumi's past is touched upon and tt's actually straight from the DAL visual novels, in other words canon, but it's done very poorly as if creators didn't want to spoil too much DAL's next season plot. If that was the case they shouldn't have tried to cover Kurumi's background story.
Logic of the story gets even worse. Just like last time, Kurumi's bullets freeze in midair only to go back and hit
...
the enemy or Kurumi herself. I guess Kurumi can telekinetically control her bullets now.
Bullet effects make no sense. Aleph, the bullet used to accelarate time, is used to push a huge pillar without touching it as if it was a kinetic attack. Dalet, the bullet used for reversing time, hits enemies, fatally wounding them after, freezing midair and going back.
Higoromo got robbed out of a lot of screentime due to certain plot twist and that hurt her character severely.
Overall, it could have been better.

Objectively speaking, DAB is a mediocre anime that was made for fans of Kurumi Tokisaki. That being said, I slightly increased the rating to 7/10. I can't imagine people outside of the target audience being awayed away with it.
As for me I was never enthusiastic about DAB and expected it to be a disaster but it was quite pleasant to watch. I like that Kurumi's personality is very much like in the original, as I find it to be not only hers but also the movie's biggest charms(it's refreshing to have an anti-heroine for protagonist).
That being said I'll list the things that, in my opinion
...
make the movie worse or don't make it good.
-Art&Animation
DAL always had stiff animation and although I appreciate that's not the case here I don't like how Kurumi changed. Her face changed quite drastically and she lost a lot of resemblance, her hair turned from black to dark brown. Kurumi in the DAL animes, VN and games looks pretty much the same. Here I sometimes had to remind myself that it's Kurumi.
-Plot&Logic
Very simple. DAB is a hybrid of Isekai and Murder Game like Danganronpa or Mirai Nikki. As for the logic... this Kurumi is a clone and yet she can summon Zaphkiel for no other reason than plot convienience. Her bullets now stop in mid air only to go back and hit her or her opponent which was never how they worked and it makes no sense.
-Characters
Don't expect them to be interesting, they're slightly more important than trees.

OG Show is perfectly described in the following sentence:
"You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
This doesn't apply to MagiaRecord which is nothing like the OG. What does it mean? It means we get a generic magical girl show with very simple-minded characters and shallow, nonsensical plot.
CHARACTERS 1/10
They're essentially all the same. They only have personality in meaningless moments. One is going to act stoic, the other energetic, another optimistic and last one aggressive. But when serious emotional moments strike they act in the same way, respond the same, talk about their feeligns the same etc.
This is
...
your typical case of anime where overly optimistic speech will cure all the emotional wounds, trauma and PTSD that you suffered earlier and recover without any mental damage. Example?(minor spoilers)
One of the girls' mother remarried to a man with 2 sons and ever since then she felt like she didn't belong. Her family not only didn't love or appreciate her but also severely neglected her. Due to her shy nature she didn't make any friends either. Because of some magic-girl-related stuff she disappeared for over a month. While she's being saved she's forced to kill the friend she made and spent time with all this time(month). The only friend she ever had. After that she goes to see her family and she finds out that they didn't even notice she was gone for over a month. THAT'S LITTERALLY IMPOSSIBLE HOW DUMB ARE THESE WRITERS? How dumb do they think we are? No one, not even authorities noticed that a middle school girl was missing? They didn't even bother to check if she's not decomposing in her room? Anyway, she takes her stuff and stands for a while on a dark street and that's when you'd think she'd transform into a witch from the despair caused by all the trauma, right? Nope. She remembers Iroha, a compelte stranger she's known for less than a minute and few others who were nice to her so she shrugs these off al nothing and lives happily with the girls in the house without any adult supervision.
Lastly, Iroha is an annoying protagonist. Extremely generic, nothing remarkable and very one-layered. She's a female equivalent of male progonists in many shounen/harem animes. Yikes.
The OG cast, which makes brief appearances, could as well not exist. They don't have any bigger roles, it's like they're there only to make cameos. Kyouko's character didn't even make sense. She was originally an anti-hero. Here she's a carafree, somewhat lazy hero.
STORY 1/10
Nothing is answered or explained. The disappearance of Iroha's sister? No. What happened with her childhood friends? No. What's going on with the witch-like possession of magical girls? Oh you know, some magical girl created that. That's it. That's got to be one of the dumbest "explanations" one could give. How exactly she even gave that ability to magical girls without intercating with her isn't explained at all.
A lot of places the characters find themselves in and the magical girl organization make no sense either. Apparently there's plenty of medival, European-like ruins under the city that are used by the said MGO.
The witch plot twist as I mentioned earlier made no sense. It makes no sense how the whole "trick" exists and how it functions.
it was never explained why Kyubey loses his consciousness after entering the city or what the young Kyubey is.
ART&MUSIC 10/10
They're flawless. The visuals are beautiful but also the animation is smooth and beautiful. The music re-uses many of the old tracks from the OG with few new and it's great.
The whole story is simply dumb. In the OG we felt the hopelessness and weight of the situation the girls had to carry on their shoulders. Here, we don't feel anything. Becasue no matter what happens and what these girls go through all it takes is an encouragement from a stranger to make them feel better and carry on like nothing happened. Their actions and their mental states don't have any negative consequences which leaves us with very infantile, naive and, at the core, generic story.

1. There's no story. A monster attacks, the bets of the best heroes can barely leave a scratch on t and Saitama comes to save the day by not even putting any effort. In almost every episode the scale of destruction is s great that easily hundreds of not thousands die. It makes me wonder how the heck the humanity is still alive. Saitama doesn't care
...
and neither do I after 3rd episode I believe.
2.Visually it's great. The animation is impeccable too especially during fights.
3. It's good but somehow I feel like they didn't make as good of use of it as they could.
4. Utter disaster. Almost every character in the show, be it hero or villian, exists solely to show you how strong, and superior to them, Saitama is. It quickly gets annoying. There are a couple of heroes who are in the S tier- they're supposed to be the strongest and the best of the best and yet they hardly do anything even when they put their 100% in the fight and do basically nothing.
Then Saitama pops up and saves the day effortlessly with blank expression. Saitama has the worst fights in the show. It is the other characters that have more interesting moments and that's due to the fact that they're actually trying and can get their butts kicked too. Saitama on the other hand bends all laws of physics and relity in general. Nothing can harm him because of the intense AMATEUR training he did. Doesn't matter if it's a mutant, a robot, explosion or a black hole- Saitama will withstand it all effortlessly.
5.I expected a nice comedy I got... a very cringy shonen. The show is dumb and only for those who enjoy over the top fights with plethora of explosions and destruction because this show isn't anything beyond that.

It's been a while since the last time I came across a show like Kannagi. Its most defining triat is that it fails to define itself. There's really not much to tell as the shows doesn't offer anything specific.
As a comedy there aren't enough jokes and the limited amount we get feels forced and hardly amusing. Shrotly put, the comedy is a failure. What about plot then? It's hard to figure out what the plot is suppoed to be about either. On the one hand, there seems to be mystery involving Nagi's split personality and her past with the main character. On the other
...
hand we get a weird harem focused romance.
What is it then? A romance? Mystery? Harem? Comedy? Creators threw in a lot of various genres and tropes resulting in a mess that doesn't do well any of those.
I rarely drop animes but I grew tired of watching random events that aren't funny and don't lead anywhere. That being said I'm writing this review right after watching the episode in which Nagi decided to live in a closet because Jin did something terrible. Of course, the 'horrible' thing is something trivial but it doesn't stop it from being the main dilemma of the entire episode.
Good Bye Kannagi ,I won't miss you.

It is the worst monogatari arc I've seen so far and whoever rated it 10 isn't in their right mind as I'd never expect story so porly written in monogatari series.
The previous movie introduced us to 3 antagonists Araragi has to defeat in order to get Shinobu's limbs back. I f you think it'll take this and 3rd movie to do so, just like I did, you're sadly mistaken.
All 3 fights are crammed in this movie, Araragi's opponents hardly speak so we know nothing of them, like what drove them to do what they did, their motivations, stories. There's nothing except for minor
...
small details provided by Shinobu:
1st one is a vampire who hunts vampires because it's a job(I'm not even sure he was so forgettable and disappears forver after being defeated).
2nd is half vampire motivated by personal interest
3rd and the last one is a human priest.
That's literally it. There's nothing to spoiler because that's all there is to these characters. We never learn what was the priest's religion, and the reason I mention that is because it clearly doesn't condemn kidnapping and killing innocent people if it helps him to achieve his goal. His moral compass is never explored.
Now the biggest insult and disappointemnt- Hanekawa. Her character was ruthlessly butchered, and debased. Someone apparently thought it a good idea to reduce her to being a shameless tramp. Now, it's been few years since I watched Bakemonogatari, in which I believe her relationship with Araragi was especially important because she was his obvious crush, he relied on her etc etc and I just couldn't remember her the way she is in this movie.
First of all, her breasts are at least 2 or even 3 times larger than they were in Bakemonogatari and later seasons(!). And that's what keeps attracting your attention because they are preposterously, heinously big moving along with Hanekawa's slightest movements. She asks Araragi if they'll make up if she shows him her panties, which she does. Before his last fight she TAKES OFF her underwear and gives it to him as a... I don't know some creepy good luck charm? She's nothing like Hanekawa I remember nor is her relationship with Araragi, it was always her who drew the line. There's a dialogue I remember from prev seasons:
-Alright Araragi-kun I'm giving you a ticket that allows you to touch my breasts.
-WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!
-Ofcourse if you use it I'll never forgive you.
-T.T
Shinobu was inconsistent too, they tried so hard to make her a helpless damsel in distress. As it was established in a previous movie her powers are greatly limited, but do not forget the scene in which she jumped from the roof of the building into the blazing sun to save burning Araragi burning herself at the same time. It required a lot of strength and agility which no human possesses, not to mention they both healed immadiately. Despite that she almost loses her balance after she catches her own thrown in her direction. Then after eating it she transforms from being about 8 to about 14(?) years old. There's a scene in which in order to remember something she uses her vampiric strength to pierce her head(and skull!!!) with her bare hand to give her brain a little massage. After she's done the wound heals immdiately. Not long after that she receives another leg from Araragi and, theoretically, becomes stronger.
BUT after Araragi asks if she's going to retrieve her hands by herself she responds she's still not strong and her regeneration powers are still in pitiable state even though every time they were shown they seemed extremely sufiecient and at the same LEVEL of Araragi's.
Nothing so far contributed to Araragi's or others' character development, plot had plenty of holes and contradicted itself so insultingly obvious you'd need to be gray cell deficient to not notice. It's the poorest monogatari story we've gotten so far.

It's my first review and the reason I'm writing it is because I'm honestly dumbfounded by the fact that NO ONE,so far ,mentions all these stories were recycled from previous seasons
I think I watched Bakemonogatari in 2013 or 2014 and as I'm writing this it's 2018 before Christmas but I can still recall a lot of these short stories, some more or less vividly and can't understand how no one else does.
There's not need to watch Koyomimonogatari because anyone who is interested has most likely seen previous seasons. You can even see a difference in animation quality- it was left untouched, and therefore later episodes'
...
animation is notceably better.
Shortly put: no need to watch this. Better go rewatch full episodes.
