What a way to fumble the bag...

This manga has great art, a nice concept, and a pretty compelling romance, but I'm truly at a loss for what to say about the ending. The seven year timeskip does nothing except tarnish everything the story has built up to that point. The author takes us from a nice moment in the hospital to an absolutely aggravating final chapter that kills any character development from the ML. There was such a lovely opportunity to right the ship with the press conference, but alas.

Maybe this "I'll love you forever even if you treat me like trash" plotline hits ... harder for a Japanese audience but it truly spoiled an otherwise enjoyable manga to the point I can't recommend it whatsoever. Kudos to the author for treating sex workers well at least...

The humor is good enough, and right when it starts getting played out it ends. Nothing to complain or write home about, it's decent.

The art gets the job done, not noticeably bad or good. Only odd thing was the author shows just about as much nipple as possible without *actually* showing any nipple.

If you want a short brainrot comedy this will do just fine. If "haha naked" jokes get on your nerves then don't bother. The characters are incredibly one dimensional and theres no development to speak of until the last chapter when FMC has a realization leading towards the ending.

This manga doesn't really deserve ... a longer review but I can't post it unless I yap more so, lorem ipsum and all that.

There's so much to love about this manga. Unfortunately, it fumbles on the one yard line.

The representation is great, the characters develop beautifully, and the plot of self love and discovering different facets of identity is really heartwarming. However, when 90% of a story revolves around a romance, giving it little to no closure does the whole manga a massive disservice, especially when followed up by a 'romance' that feels shoehorned in by comparison. There is incredible depth to Akira and Hime's relationship. Wrapping it up with 'not friends and not romance' then jumping directly to the ending is a massive letdown.

In short, disappointing. What could've been a short and emotionally moving GL ended up a tired, worn out, and confusing wreck.

Misunderstandings, rivals, doubt, and the inability to speak ones mind are real parts of love. Unfortunately, Sasameki Koto loops through these clichés with absolutely no respect for the reader's time. Past chapter 15 character and plot progression slow to a crawl, making it genuinely difficult to remember anything changing other than circumstance or the misunderstanding of the week for 31 chapters and heartbreaking moments eventually blend into a general sense of frustration. The author in his afterword's frequently jokes, "the story will finally reach it's ... climax! Probably... Maybe..." which shows a befuddling amount of self awareness.

This disappointing midsection could be somewhat looked over if it weren't for the absolute mess of an ending. The author jumps between scenes at a frenzied pace, leaving no time whatsoever to properly flesh out what should be incredibly moving moments. The climax of the story comes out of nowhere in the form of a flashback with little if any buildup. It's a shame that the last 15 or so chapters frequently left me wondering if I'd skipped a chapter or if my reading comprehension had simply gotten up and left. Upon a reread there are simply too many threads, too many scenes being split between chapters to really feel confident in what's going on.

If you can handle a never-ending sequence of melodrama, this manga is for you. More than half of this manga's contents could've been erased from the mangaka's hard drive and the story would've been all the better for it. A shame when taking into consideration how strong the opening volumes were.

Only writing this review because of some absurdly scathing reviews that I feel are totally missing the mark, so here goes:

Read the synopsis and genre before wasting your time! This show is a solid 'Cute Girls Doing Cute Things' inspired Isekai, where the fantasy world serves entirely to trivialize and keep conflict resolution as lighthearted as possible. Additionally, The MC is OP as hell and walks around doing as she pleases and meeting monster girls. That should be enough to turn you on or off from this show as that sums up around 95% of the runtime.

There aren't any glaring issues, but don't expect anything ... you haven't seen done with a higher budget elsewhere.

Overall, it's a perfectly decent show to wind down after a long day. 8/10
