KonoSuba: Even God's Screaming in This Wonderful World! 3
This season is an improvement and a step back in some areas, I'll start with the positives.
Kono Suba 3 is an improvement in the characterization of darkness. I HATED her in 1 and 2, but season 3 has moved on from her only lines being to say the "please beat me" joke to a double-sided coin: serious and "teasing of words" character where the coin flips sides depending on what's appropriate in the scenario - I like this darkness. She shines 10 fold as a believable character who's actually likable while keeping her lewd side under wraps
...
till the moment strikes.
The world-building in Kono Suba 3 is also a step up, events actually have consequences that affect how the story turns out, well done.
Now for the negative.
The show is in a weird state with tropes. If you dont know Kono Suba is a show that makes fun of typical tropes found in anime. but what makes it weird in S3 is that it's now troping itself. I dont mean it's making fun of the tropes it made, Im saying the show now has tropes exclusive to itself. For example, irony poisoning. It's like a rule for kono suba: any sincerity or seriousness has to be retorted with some dumb quip. Why even try to have these moments if you're just going to throw them away? I feel so disappointed every time it happens, and the best part is that it happens every damm time, it's so bad. It's so afraid to be genuine and it kills me because I feel for these characters and the writers take a fat sloppy poo on ALL OF IT.
Aqua is put on the shelf for this season, she is relegated to screaming, and 90% of her script is screaming. Is there anything more to say because it's just: 'high E pitch noise' the character. That poor, poor voice actor. god bless your soul.
Back to tropes, 70% of the jokes devolve into two characters screaming at each other while one shakes the other. In fact, there is a music cue that is played every SINGLE TIME. All of the jokes that made me laugh never ended in a screaming match. Loud does not equal funny.
Overall alright, I dont think it's good enough for a 2nd watch anytime soon. but I do see it as an improvement over 2. Darkness FTW

This show is the writing version of gamification.
Gamification is when a game's setting is so shallow that instead of immersing the player, the player sees it as a series of tasks to be completed. I for the life of me cannot see how this show got an 8.6, it will throw everything at the wall and nothing sticks.
At the peak of tension in ep.1, the character just got stabbed and is in mortal danger, she proceeds to go on her 3rd moral exposition about never loving/lies, etc, etc, etc. I don't care. I don't care. It's that simple. Every step the show has taken
...
till this point has failed to get me interested and immersed in this world. It's trying so hard to push these haymakers of storytelling that falls flat because im not IMMERSED.
Every time one of these haymakers happens, it's not because of some clashing of characters, it's because the writer needs this to happen so the next thing can happen. it's so blatant, Im pulling my hair at how egregious it is. I don't even know how the monthly anime slop has you beat in this. Get this right:
>wow! you talk nothing like a baby, let's discuss business ventures.
WHAT...? I can't even... and the whole show is like this. im out.
It tries so hard to fly the most absurdist crap under the radar, then asks me to feel something for its emotional scenes.
animation 10/10
writing 2/10
thoughts after finishing. The rest of the show is 'just fine'. if it weren't for the one mystery hook, it would fall apart. Even so, a lot still doesn't make any sense and 90% of that roots from ep.1 For example:
Why even have the characters be reincarnated? The two main characters are not interested in who each other were in their previous lives, they don't even care about there own past lives. The doctor's murder didn't even need to happen for the mystery hook. The doctor character doesn't even care that much about idols and sees it as a way of honoring Sarina's death-so why is he so obsessed with Ai post ep.1? Shouldn't he be more obsessed about his own death? And Ai (aka the writer) is hell-bent on keeping the father's identity a secret even from her kids.
It's just bad writing. ep.1 should have been cut, as it fills everything with holes and makes everything messy.

Weird, a show that paints itself as mediocre for the twist to be "I was bad on purpose". While I do appreciate the re-contextualization, it ultimately isn't that impactful of a twist. Shame 90% will drop this show before that twist, but it is what this show is, a love.... FLOP. AHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAH
Anyway, the show would be ok if it wasn't for the weird bondage, and bestiality "jokes" that smear shit on its own score. There is no build-up or anything, its just I guess the MC is getting raped by a dog, you may now laugh. I would imagine the writer is either getting off
...
to the concept or has no concept of humor and dog rape causes him to piss himself with laughter. Genuinely was about to turn this show off at ep.1 for having the first offense.
just watch the last episode as it is the best. If it leaves you curious about how we got to this point: watch the rest. If not then skip.

Through the power of BS, I win
No, but really. That's all the show really is, it's all high stakes then poof, I win. The art style is the only really good thing I'll say about the show, the premise is cool, but dawg does it really just pull nothing out of its ass just to take the wind out of the show's sails. It's like a monster of the week with unwinnable odds, but then the monster just evaporates in the last 2 seconds of the fight. Probs why there's never gonna be a season 2. It's formulaic and boring after the first 2 times.

Bad... just bad, not bad because it's the fast-food equivalent of anime, but because of the disappointment one feels when good unique concepts, world-building, characters, etc are all ruined by one single little factor... the main character. Trapped in a Dating Sim is that anime. I will never understand what the writers were thinking when writing a power fantasy and deciding to give the MC a lobotomy operation. The loops of thought that the MC goes through to justify his views on himself and his relationships would put gymnastics to shame. Beware don't watch this in English, Jordan dash Cruz (MC's voice actor) makes me
...
want to kill the nearest man. I've never heard someone's voice crack like a twelve-year-old while still staying in pitch, and god forbid it is horrifying. After this show, I will be keeping an eye out for Jordan dash Cruz to make sure I never have to hear his "work" ever again. So... the MC is a dunce and is voiced by one... my only bad complaint, other than that it's good, I would call it a rom-com but, to be honest, the MC forbids it (refer to how he is an oaf). The writing is half good, everything not surrounding the MC is good and everything entangled with the MC is dreadful. The genre of this show is everything, it's just every genre... and it suffers from an identity crisis because of that. The show would be redeemed if it was self-aware and made a comedy of just how stupid the show is. The MC is aware that everything that happens around him is on some level of meta, but no, the MC must stay in his lane at all costs, even though he sees and acknowledges the fact that the "rules" and "paths" of this world are broken. I am no writer, but even I can look at this work and wonder why. why... why is it ass trash. I know why, but even so... why. why would someone not refine this, it could have been so much better. it could have been something. but... it is not anything and it will fade like all the others before it. disappointment is my only word. I would say "potential" but even I know, we are past that.
