Watched 1-169 in 14 days. The wave of emotion from the ep.169 reveal after nothing but work, sleep, and 4 years worth of BC made me feel like it was fate that I caught up not knowing 170 would be the end of the beginning series. This anime taught me to never trust the internets opinion on anime and that magic power anime w/o fist throwing i.e. Naruto can be fun to watch. Astas character starts out annoying, obnoxious and loud, always yelling to the point you actually get irritated but by episode 30 I realized just like the actual characters I had become desensitized
...
to his loudness due to his true nature and personality. Not to mention a MC character design with the type of changes he has had from episode 1. The shows haters claim "The animation sucks, they don't really fight they just throw spells, Astas swords don't cut through people, main story is cliché." When I started watching I was looking for those jank animations i.e. Asta rolling on the ground but he's always facing the camera, or his mouth moving while Noelle shouts off screen. I will admit I am a fan of terrible media so this was fun to look for. As the series continues it got cleaner but still tripped here and there. I too didn't enjoy the fact nobody (except one savage) not even Asta used "Fist Magic: These Hands" but the way counter spells and spell combos between teammates was displayed, as well as ANYTHING can be made into a magic type. Magic cutting dimensions, Fate Magic, Dice Magic, Compass Magic, Mirror Magic, Dream Magic the randomness keeps characters fresh. The teaming system of the Magic Knights was the thing I enjoyed most about the shows structure. Add Astas prodigy rival to the #1 squad and underdog Asta to the worst squad Black Bulls, who are all misfits with potential, and you have me hooked. While death is a small factor blood is still heavily used in certain episodes and later on characters get seriously injured. I for one loved how this became a cult classic anime because of its ability to use that worn out cliché "I may get bullied and different but I'm gunna be 'THAT guy' and prove you all wrong"(I call Wizard King 'Wizard Hokage'). They then expand it so not only is the MC an out of place weirdo who is regarded as a loser with extreme hidden potential but his enter team of 10+ weirdo losers are also capable of OP potential. The show itself "Black Clover" is exemplified as the underdog anime being ridiculed but shows its true potential while rising up to greatness. The openings are incredibly animated and slightly changed throughout the arc also giving me a lot of song playlist material. All in all the series is in my top 5 and will continue watching when it hopefully goes into its "Shippuden" phase after 170
