first off, I'll be honest in saying I didn't watch Violet Evergarden when it came out. I only watched four episodes before sadly stopping as I was too busy. However, just a few days ago I went back and watched the entire series in bulk, and I'm disappointed I didn't watch it any sooner.
This is possibly the best anime of the year that no one will most likely put on their top list. It's breathtaking. With amazing art, a story that'll make even grown men cry, characters that are hard not to love, it has so much for a dramatic story.
In a world where this

grand war was ending, it shows the darkness the aftermath will show. Pain, loneliness, death. The show revolves around these concepts that we all consider negative. But gives off a meaning that even if you're at your lowest low, you should keep going, no matter who you lose or how hard it becomes.
I will say the story can get very negative most of the way, but that is only parts of a breathtaking story with an amazing development in characters. The most I've done was tear up, but that was around 6-7 times in the entire 13 episodes. I will say that if you have problems in depression or have been in war that resulted in ptsd or any hard negatives of war, you should not watch this anime, but if you love amazing art, an interesting story, and tearing up to crying a good bit, you will love Violet Evergarden.
