The best way to put K-ON! and it's appeal is as such:
It's a 31 Flavors Baskin Moe. Would you like your waifu in a maid costume with extreme shyness on the side? Or would you prefer a more refined French Vanilla keyboardist with some Earl Grey? Better yet, why not try a taste of our Flavor of the Week, Lolicat! Whatever your taste, we have the moe flavor you're looking for! The pure moe power of the main characters is scary in the inevitable character shipping wars that will plague all K-ON! discussions from now until forever.
Inevitably, if you're not
...
in the mood for Moe Ice Cream, it's best to not come into the shop since all other fields are secondary to the characters in this series.
In terms of story, it is mostly there so that we can see new reactions of our favorite girl rather than to captivate your heart or intrigue your mind.
Similarly with the music, while the opening, and especially the ending, themes might fool you into thinking this series is a moe version of Beck, a few episodes will quickly expose the lack of motivation (and sheer tea loving laziness) in the characters to perform continuous "Parallel Days" concerts for the viewer's musical pleasure. That said, the few songs done in the series are alright, but the main musical pleasure found in this series is the series ED, in my opinion.
Overall, if you find your waifu flavor in K-ON!, then you'll enjoy the series; otherwise, try going out for some pizza instead.
