*THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS*
I had high hopes for the new season seeing the overwhelming 10/10 reviews . But does it live up to the hype? The basic answer is kinda. Instead of talking about specific parts of the season(characters, plot, etc etc) , I’ll be talking about the pros and cons as a whole.
PROS:
First, the plot . The plot was a massive upgrade from the first season sticking to a specific genre instead of a multitude of different ones like the first season . The viewer starts off with a lot of questions which get answered (kinda) throughout the season. The gore filled death
...
scenes were executed amazingly with powerful emotions from the voice actors. The suspense and thrills were at it’s peak with the new season with most episodes ending at a high note chimed in with the banger ending song. Most characters got good character development and the new characters that were introduced were good. Subaru’s tight rope walk between greed and selfishness was showcased stunningly . And every scene with Roswaal was a treat .
CONS:
While the plot for the most part was an upgrade, some parts were a let down. The anime went through what I call the ”Rem cycle” . The cycle of Subaru failing , ultimately dying then getting a random boost in morale (seen first with best girl rem) and then go back to failing . While I get this made the story unpredictable at the start, it made the outline of story predictable and repetitive after a couple of episodes. Next let’s go to stay the same Emilia . Her character is awful . Her character goes through about an ounce of development and she isn’t even fucking helpful(Otto fucking helped more than her) . It’s scarily similar to sakura. Unless there is an overarching plot about her or development in the future , for now she is as useless as ever. The art and animation was a certain step down from the amazing visuals in season 1 but was still passable considering they worked from home .
CONCLUSION:
The new season to Re:zero was a certain upgrade from the first season . While I don’t feel like it’s the masterpiece everyone claims it to be, It’s still a decent watch - 7.5/10
