A FREAKING WORK OF ART
if you dwell over how sequences don't make sense then you're a lost cause im sorry
BELIEVE IN THE YOU THAT BELIEVES IN YOU
i cant say anything more beyond that the artstyle is unique flashy and fantastic, expressive and bright, full of youthful energy and spontaneity. beautiful mostly flat but awesome characters and rounds with a beautiful arc with simon.
so much fun i can't describe it but it's so much fun
...
alright mal is being weird so ill answer these questions too
Is the story unique? If it was predictable, did you enjoy it anyway because you like this genre/set-up?
absolutely unique. kill a kill esque but with all the fun and no need for any buildup. really subversive and creative because it's the literal definition of out of box action and storytelling
Do you think the art style is fitting for the story?
for the characters and story, absolutely out of this world
Were the characters well-rounded? Did they have flaws and strengths, or were they unusually strong/smart/stupid?
they were mostly flat but played off each other extremely well and had a really fun and fresh dynamic
Did the characters react to situations and events in a realistic way?
My Bro is dead. He's gone. But he's right there on my back and here in my heart. He lives on as a part of me! If you're gonna dig, dig to the heavens. No matter what's in my way, I won't stop. Once I've dug through, it means that I've won! Just who the hell do you think I am? I'm Simon. I'm not my bro. I'm ME! Simon The Digger!!
Do you think others will enjoy/dislike this series, even if you didn't? Why?
yes. no if you overthink on how things are supposed to be. if a plotline goes from A -> C and you get upset that B isnt in the middle then you arent going to have a fun time because this isnt meant to be like that, it's the whole point (i think anyway)

This is was so weird. I know they're meant to be teenagers confused with their feelings and relationships, but it strikes me so much that in the heat of battle they're always so worried about how they and everyone feels and judges them that they forget basic survival instincts. Like rin being digested by a zombie and having flashbacks man what should I do what should I do, like dude, kill the thing that's literally digesting you. (This was definitely done to make what feels like a genuinely small and closedminded plot not be completely obliterated in two episodes by rin actually using his powers
...
effectively.) There's no buildup for anything and things just suddenly come out of left field, like shima's betrayal, sudden emotional outbursts, and extremely poor decision making. Things just seem so weird for certain characters too, it's hard to explain. The pacing is everywhere, things just seem to happen randomly and the tone abruptly changes back and forth, things don't seem to happen until oh yeah shima's (who acts completely indifferent to suffering for a reason we've never seen any buildup to) been part of this mysterious organization that happens to be crucial to kamiki's backstory who has to undergo a demon transformation and also zombies (which are very different stylistically compared to other demons previously shown even if they were manmade) and weird egoist pedo dude and we get another convenient situation where it's only the main group has to confront the entire organization like what the hell is going on with this. It's like nothing happens and everyone's just in an oblivious slice of life, confused, then happy, then everything happens all of a sudden, everyone's still confused, then everyone suddenly knows what to do without ANY buildup. Instead of being emotionally invested of the characters' struggles, 90% of the time I find myself questioning what the hell is going on and why are they acting so confused and then all of a sudden completely know what they're doing and acting in perfect harmony as soon as kamiki's mom saves her like did yall just forget how to fight and coordinate properly until the plot was like okay time to win now! She went from not being able to use her familiars properly to do the littlest thing and having extreme issues to suddenly realizing oh I actually like everyone and chanting the most elegant and refined aria like everything seems like such an asspull in this season, only for most loose ends (besides todo and the stuff brought up in that meeting with the contract, also it feels like we didn't see enough of that paladin guy) made in the season to be brought up and settled explicitly in a single dialogue. Not fun
I know it's been seven years but man this was not it

Let me just preface this with that watching this, if you haven't seen from season 1, is not for the faint of heart. The mix of childlike wonder, adventure, innocence and curiosity, in stark contrast with some of the most grotesque and gruesome bits of gore I've ever seen on that very same innocence, mixed with an abundance of deep worldbuilding, creativity, and immersion, it is beyond words. Definitely would not recommend if the, for some, seemingly unnecessary suffering and beyond extreme treatment of completely innocent children is too much of a discomfort; but accepting that, is to accept and surrender yourself to the abyss
...
and the greater adventure. Definitely a lot of shock gore, and blatant child nudity, so be prepared for that.
Brondrewd makes for a very interesting and peculiar scientist-type character. Despite all the things he does, which is beyond disturbing and horrific, his personality is one of sheer noir and curiosity, ambition, beyond all morals, and is likeable despite his actions; he has a particular allure.
The action sequences are decently creative with stunning visuals as expected for an anime movie, and for this series thus far, though not too much actually seems to occur in the movie. The characters go somewhere, accomplish a goal, get a thing, then move on, to put very simply. Not too many different settings, but it definitely contains a lot of interesting ideas and concepts to take from.
Pacing also was kinda wonky, and we didn't get to see too much of the fifth layer, which had infinite potential for exploration and storybuilding, but overall, definitely a great and interesting experience to watch. It also sets things up for season 2.
I think that despite the tragedies that occur, the reason why these literal children maintain their total childlike innocence and wonder, is because they're to be drawn to the abyss, is one of the main themes of this series. It makes little sense considering how people typically become disturbed after witnessing traumatic events or situations, but the whole point seems to be that their undying thirst for adventure and curiosity to explore, is what keeps them optimistic, what keeps and going despite the blatant gore and tragedy of it all, questioning what it even means to be human, beliefs, and to return to the source of all things, that which is god to some. Very interesting stuff.

As seemingly mundane and boring this film might seem, it's a heartwarming and well-written coming of age movie. Without Miyazaki's typical grandeur animation and style, we get to see more of the typical and finer intricacies of burning adolescence - and the fickle hearts that come with it. It's an amazing and detailed depiction of childhood feelings and ambition. I wish we had more films that took this approach, of a slow and unhurried pace, letting the audience appreciate the turbulence and ups and downs of youth. It's a very cute, wholesome, and endearing film. Rest in peace, Yoshifumi Kondō.
However, I wouldn't recommend
...
it to those who are expecting a grand, typical Ghibli movie with stunning, unique visuals; as for the most part, this film doesn't have any of that. This movie is about an archetypal young girl growing up, experiencing the world, coming to terms with her future, dealing with relationships, and learning about herself. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.

Very cute, very lovely, it's a romantic love letter to the classical pre-WWII era. Like with most all Miyazaki films, the scenery and shots this film has are very beautiful and show a very aesthetically pleasing backdrop, from the ocean, the sky, and greenery. It has many characters full of spunk, who are overall very pleasing and charming to watch banter and interact, amidst 1930s seaplanes and biplanes dogfighting in the blue, blue sky. Nothing terrible happens in this film, and there doesn't seem to be some overarching message or too much depth, but it is overall very entertaining and again, very pleasing and endearing
...
to watch.

I may have watched this as a child, but that was long ago, so I can basically say this is my first time watching any Lupin III film.
Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro is an amazing film. Picturesque scenery that rivals the visuals of early Ghibli films, with fluid, creative action sequences serve to give this film heart and soul. Not to mention it has Japan's frequent portrayal of a classical. romantic, almost steampunk style of western imagery that blends in seamlessly which I love, but the characters steal the show. Not many films today have this many bright and moderately interesting personalities (with their
...
own motives) that come together so well. Lupin's unpredictability and mastery at deception, to get him out of seemingly impossible situations, would make this movie a nice watch alone, but his cheerful likeability and pleasing dynamic he has with the other colorful characters (the hardworking and honorable Japanese detective working to ruin him, his partner whose relationship with him can be best attributed to Spike and Jett's dynamic from Cowboy Bebop, and the many connections he has with similarly cool and mysterious characters etc.) he interacts with, even the one-sided antagonist (who is overall interesting due to the mystery of the Cagliostro family) makes for a very pleasing and digestible watch. Makes for a great family movie as well.

This will have spoilers.
Majo no Takkyuubin, Kiki's Delivery Service, is a coming-of-age story for a little witch girl, who ultimately wants to find her place in a growing hustle-and-bustle city that is largely unamicable and unfamiliar with witches. This makes it difficult for Kiki to find her place in society, but this film teaches that through hard work, kindness, perseverance, and a little help from the right people, you can find where you belong.
This story highlights the importance of valuing the slower, more earnest things in life; whether that's a friend who loves art, the elderly, airships, friends, or a welcoming bakery shop owner.
...
In the grand scheme of things, taking the time to do the great things you love, (and making it a part of your everyday life) is worth more than anything.
As with most any Ghibli movie, the art and style used are very aesthetically pleasing, fitting, and beautiful. It truly is a work of art. The film demonstrates a very pleasing scenery of nature, in the woods and suburbs, but also highlights the hustle and bustle of the city through the advancing technology of cars, airships, cops, and even the fact that the newer generations in the city seem pretty unfamiliar and even aghast when it comes to witches like Kiki.
Overall it is a very heartwarming and wholesome watch when seeing this little girl try her hardest to do things seemingly out of her reach, only to be pushed in the right direction by the best of people. She learns to make friends, grows confident in her abilities and appearance, and despite a couple of big mishaps, she finds herself at home.

(Spoilers, sort of, sorry.) This is a simple and short film about an old man rediscovering the life he has lived. It makes me appreciate, from an old man's perspective, the things we do in life. Being a young person, I have my whole life ahead of me, and this makes me want to do good in life and create memories that I can likewise, recollect and enjoy remembering. This can be interpreted as quite grim, but in another light, nostalgia can be a nice, non-regrettable feeling that makes one happy about the life they've lived. The accompanying music is elegant, but like the rest
...
of the short film, simple. It makes me wonder what memories I've created thus far that I can humbly remember and enjoy doing so. Take things slow, and do them right. This is more of a blob for myself than a review haha.

Albeit cliched, along with some off-putting and questionable moments, Akame ga Kill had most everything I desired in an anime. I found it to be very simplistic/generic, but romance, op characters, action, ecchi, fantasy, and a generally decent plot (at least in my eyes), among other things were present; making it one of my favorite guilty pleasures in anime. I believe and assume the overall quality was tuned down a bit (complexity/plot), in order to grasp a very easy understanding from a more general audience, probably from a younger age. Casting those things among others aside, I think of Akame
...
ga Kill as quite a decent anime, I found it very enjoyable; while also finding myself attached to many things and scenes with a quite bit of sentimentality, which is why I gave it the rating I believe it deserved.

I've been planning to watch this for quite some time now, watching Pewdiepie's let's play of the game three years prior. I was expecting it to be fairly decent, but I wasn't surprised when I saw it for what it was. If you're into gore/horror and that alone, then this is for you.
The gore was great, I loved it on that part, but the story was hard to grasp, amongst other flaws. What were the character's names again? For the most part they looked and acted the same, and the ones who did stand out, were killed off eventually. Granted, it was only four episodes,
...
and it was probably difficult to produce good content, and also the time and budget they had were probably low. But - that doesn't mean they could've at least tried to make a decent, consistent storyline that most viewers could comprehend. Yet again, the gore was great, although I hate it when I see girls get hurt or abused, especially someone really young like Yuka. Nevertheless it was okay, if there were more episodes I would watch them and hopefully they'll be better and add to the storyline, and perhaps I'll like it more.
