I was originally excited for this sequel because of all the possibilities where the main pair's relationship could go. After reading it though, I was left with disappointment. Simply, the main pair's relationship doesn't go anywhere from where the prequel left it off. This sequel feels unnecessary and Nakamura somehow feels even more of an outsider to the love interest, Hirose's life than he was in the prequel as this book barely offers the main pair genuine moments of connection between them.
There are so many points in this book that just fail me to root for Nakamura and say “go for it, Nakamura!” because he
...
just doesn’t go for it. The book even makes a point about this saying that no matter how much you dilly-dally crushing on someone, the person in question is never going to fall in love with you if you don’t just “go for it”. Where is Nakamura’s resolve? It seems like he just lets things happen before he can do anything about them.
This series is full of character’s unfruitful feelings of affection for each other. Like the artist girl who crushes on Nakamura, Nakamura crushes on Hirose, Hirose might have a crush on the teacher and so on… Makes one think if that’s the whole point of the manga then. “unrequited feelings that will never be answered, but hey, at least you’ll have a good memory, right?” That type of thing…
Some of the chapters are also kind of confusing with the overall continuation of the story. Not to mention the book’s abrupt ending with no clear conclusion for the volume. Overall the book has some funny jokes and nice art. It’s entertaining at least and sure made me think about it, but, as I said before, it feels kind of dull and unneeded as a sequel. It would have been fine for this series to have been a standalone one shot volume. At least the ending of the first volume’s leaves room for hope for Nakamura’s crush as it ends with an open ending with many possibilities.
To conclude, this volume brings nothing new to the table and fails to succeed the prequel’s freshness in the BL genre.
