Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso is an anime that didn't catch my attention at first. It has lots of positive opinions, but I thought it was probably an overrated anime (and that's definitely the truth for me). I should have trust this first impression. I have first started the series and I stopped after two episodes because of the art. But I have finally rewatched these two episodes and finished the anime, and I shouldn't have, because I didn't like it at all.
Art : 6/10
I have first dropped this series because according to me the realization was bad when Kaori plays the violin (for an
...
anime about music they could have done better). The chara-design is original, backgrounds are well done, but I didn't found it as beautiful as what people were saying. There are inequalities in terms of consistency / animation that were not nice at all. It is not the worst part of this show, but I think it could have been better during some episodes, especially when you compare to the piano performances that were really well done.
Story : 5/10
The story centers on Kousei Arima, a piano prodigy who can't play anymore since his mother's death. Some scenes were moving, especially regarding Kousei when he was little. The problem is that they put several times the same flashbacks throughout the series, and it becomes heavy.
In addition, I found that the anime really insisted excessively on the characters moods, the drama. There were good ideas, but they have done too much, so I wasn't moved at all. It focuses mainly, and too much, on the relationship between Kousei and Kaori, two musicians, but those who don't evolve in their world are (sadly) neglected.
Characters : 3/10
The author should have found another way to make Kousei playing the piano again because countless times I wanted to punch Kaori because she was making him to do whatever she wanted... I also want to highlight that both of the characters have "killed" (and several times) the famous "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." I agree that some Japanese have difficulties for pronouncing English, but in an anime about music, this is not acceptable. Or they should have sung in Japanese...
The worst part of this anime, is Kaori's character, which is completely missed. She is unbearable and selfish, and people like her? Even at the end, I was not able to appreciate her. For me it is really difficult to appreciate a series when one of the main characters is annoying. But Kaori is not the only one. There is also Tsubaki. At first I liked her, but the more we advance, the more I was thinking that she was too selfish. Some people will say that having these flaws makes her more realistic, but not at all! The two girls often went in not credible monologues for people of their age, and yet they behaved in really bad ways when they beat Kousei for no reason (the boring stuff you can find in lots of shounen animes), not to mention that they were crying most of the time. I really disliked the romance. Regarding other characters, they were not well-developed (poor Watari), Aiza apart, his sister (but I didn't like her), Emi and Hiroko.
Sound : 6/10
The introduction of this characters has helped to emphasize the piano performances that were really well animated, although musically speaking I have not found it transcendent. The music has not been put forward I think. For those who know nothing about classical music that may not be bad, but for me, having already heard some of them several times in the past, it was not great. The orginal soundtrack was not extraordinary, except for "Again", and I did not like the openings and endings.
In the end, I did not like this anime. I even regret watching it. I thought that at the end there would be something, a change in all these negative points, but no. This is not the first anime of A1-Pictures that disappoints me, but I made the mistake to watch this anime until the end while it has absolutely nothing special.
Maybe this show wanted to convey the idea that even with bad things happening in someone's life, that person can still move forward, but there were too much melodrama and annoying characters.
If you are looking for an interesting anime about music, and with good characters, Shigatsu won't suit you.

I like anime with action and mystery, but it is my first time seeing an anime about war and knights, so I didn't expect too much for Arslan Senki. But it was absolutely great !
Story : 9 / 10
The story is really interesting. It shows the war in its very aspects, such as barbarity, the motivation of both sides : Pars and Lusitania. Neither of them are clean, since Pars use slavery and Lusitanians kill those who don't believe in their god. The young prince Arslan will have to restore its kingdom, but it won't be easy. The different battles are epic, sometimes violent,
...
but they were well-done according to me. Moreover, the anime is not just about war, we have some magic into it (although it wasn't well-developped), mystery, and also funny moments. Plus, the relationship between the characters is pleasant. We know why they are here.
Characters : 9/10
This anime has great characters ! At first, I thought that Arslan would be annoying, since he was always protected by Daryun, but he's a good character. He's kind and he gradually becomes mature. He realizes the atrocity of the war, but he also tries to understand the motivations of his ennemies. Moreover, he isn't weak. Then, we have Daryun, one of the most powerful warrior in Arslan's side who can be overprotective, Narsus the excellent strategist (all of his ideas were impressive), Elam the cute and loyal servant, Gieve the funny and highly skilled poet, and Farangis the beautiful archer (at first I was afraid that she would be only there for the fan service but fortunately it was not the case). I enjoyed their personality, their strength, their skills, and they made me laugh a lot. At the opposite, we have Silver Mask as the main antagonist, who is eager to become the king of Pars. He's strong and scary, and one of the best ennemies I've ever seen in an anime. And as the story progresses, different protagonists make their appearances, in both sides. Alfreed was annoying at first but she was also funny and useful during battles, just as Kishward, Jaswant... And the conflict between Rajendra and Gadevi during the Sindhura arc was really interesting, without forgetting Etoile who comes back during the second half of the show, and also in the end.
Art : 9/10
I really like the chara-design, it is similar to those of the manga, illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, and the moves of the characters during the battles were really fluid (I agree that sometimes there were some problems, but they were minors, and I was so enthralled by the show that it didn't matter for me.
The backgrounds were absolutely amazing. Colors were beautiful, and they also took care to do oriental style backgrounds, especially when the protagonists are in Sindhura.
Sound : 9/10
The ost perfectly stick with the different events, especially during the battles, and emotional moments such as in the last episode (spoilers : when Etoile is coming to say a prayer for the fallen soldiers of Lusitania). I also enjoyed the openings and endings. Both of the openings are dynamic, and I really like the ending "One Light" by Kalafina.
In the end, I really enjoyed this anime. It became one of my favorites. I didn't expect that. The two last episodes were amazing, epic and beautiful. But it has an open end, some mysteries still remain, so I hope for a second season.

My review is about the entire anime. I didn't plan to watch it at first because I'm not a great fan of mechas. But since its debuts it received good critiques, and I wanted to know why.
Story : 6/10
There were good ideas. A conflict between the Earth and the Vers Empire, the power of Aldnoah, etc... but sometimes I really felt like watching Code Geass. There were some similitudes between the main characters of both series, but also by the way that season 2 could have been better, instead of being really bad and poorly written. Moreover, I think it would have been better without
...
the emphasizing of the relationship between Inaho, Slaine and Asseylum. The anime should have been more centered on war, politics and action instead of a ridiculous triangle between the main characters.
Characters : 3/10
As I started watching episode one, I felt disappointed. They started to present one of the main character : Asseylum Vers Allusia, the princess, and immediately I disliked her because she's the typical naive girl that doesn't know what's going on outside. And during the show, I felt like she wants to achieve peace without taking care of the ideals of the two sides, while she is supposed to be kind and gentle. For me she was empty. Her character doesn't evolve, neither for Inaho. Indeed he's smart, his actions were sometimes really good, but he doesn't show any emotions... My favorite one is Slaine, because although he did bad things, he's the only one to have evolved and to have been well-written. I think he doesn't deserve this kind of end. Asseylum receives all the merits although she did nothing since the start.
The other characters could have been great but they weren't well-developped (such as Inko, Yuki...) and I wanted to see Marito in action more often, instead of Inaho. As the story progresses, different protagonists appear but I didn't find them interesting. Lemrina could have been a better character but for me it just looked like the writters created her to put someone on Slaine's side and to say "Her sister Asseylum is better because she's nice". Moreover, her design is not very pretty... I felt sorry for her.
Art : 4/10
Many people says that the art in this anime is great, and I don't agree because I actually disliked it. The chara-design is too simple and looks like those on "moe animes". It doesn't match with the serious aspects of the series, and because of its simplicity, I wasn't caught by the different emotions shawn by the characters. Background and mecha designs were correct but I really disliked the chara-design.
Sound : 9/10
The best part of the anime. It's one of the main points that made me watch Aldnoah.Zero. I really like the first opening by Kalafina, but mainly the original soundtrack composed by master Hiroyuki Sawano. "BRE@TH//LESS" and the ending "aLIEz" are my favorites. The problem is that I found the music too great for this kind of anime. They were epic, but the actions were not.
In the end, I didn't really enjoy the show. It isn't one of the worst anime I've seen, but it could have been better, especially if Asseylum was not there, or if she wasn' too naive, and also if the story was better, and more interesting.
