When I first saw the title of this anime, for some reason, I had this image of this anime being a classic from the 80s to 90s era. Of course, I was wrong, though I was right about this anime being related to something old.
The Legend of the Legendary Heroes has a medival setting, focusing mainly on magic; fantasy and a little bit of medival weapons like, swords, bows etc. . The anime starts off on a rather confusing note since we have no idea of the names of the characters that are getting most of the screentime in the first episode. Basically, viewers that
...
have not read the novel, will have no idea what is going on in the first episode, but that is quickly remedied by the following episodes. However, even that quickly falls apart in the middle of the season.
Towards the later half of the season, events are rushed, plot holes are accumulating with no sign of getting filled anytime soon and what is supposedly the main antagonist, goes AWOL for majority of the later half of the season and then even more characters that are supposedly antagonists as well showed up, so now, we don't know who is the main antagonist here. The anime started off nicely, then everything became chaotic.
Despite the negative tone of my words above, there are some things that I liked. One of them was how the directors used future episodes to fill in plot holes in past episodes by bringing them in as flashbacks, if you will, though not all of them were filled.
The music for the anime was very nicely done, sound bits for spells, clashing of blades, ambience etc. fitted the mood very well, bringing the anime to life, or so to speak.
Needless to say, the voice acting was also splendid, namely Fukuyama Jun and Ono Daisuke, nothing more needs to be said.
Though with all that being said, I still enjoyed the anime thoroughly and this anime has enormous potential for a second season. If a second season is made, it will defintely be one of the best animes of all time, that is of course assuming that they don't screw up like they did with the first season.

Those who aren't intrested in reading walls of text, just read the summaried one below. But at least read the paragraph before it first so you can get a rough idea.
The Super Robot Wars: Original Generation anime series(Divine Wars and The Inspectors) is pretty much for those who have played the game with a similar name, be it on the GBA or PS2. Now before you misunderstand, I'm not saying that those who have not played the game cannot watch this anime, but rather, if you haven't played the game and you watch the anime, you will be left confused throughout the series due to
...
numerous plot holes, lack of character development and some inside jokes that only those who have played the game will get it.
For those who has seen Divine Wars and not played any of the games and doesn't mind the defects as long as the series is somewhat good, you should watch it.
For those who has seen/not seen Divine Wars and played/not played the game and are looking for a good mecha anime with a good story, I suggest you give this one a miss.
For those who have played the game and is hoping for a good story for the anime adaptation, give this a miss.
Oh and I forgot to mention, the series is full of fanservice.
Now then, for the lengthy one.
Before I begin, I would like to inform the dear reader of something.
As someone who had played the game, my review will contain some comparisions with the game and the anime so you may think that it may be a bit biased but as I had mentioned, the anime is generally for people who has played the game because most of my friends(real and online) whom I've asked, are not intrested in watching the series.
With that being said, on to the review.
Story - 3/10
I wasn't expecting the story to be any good due to my experience with Divine Wars, so I'm already rating this on a very low scale but even so, I can't give it a pass. People on anime forums pretty much shot the series down within the first few episodes regarding the story, and they are right. Parts that weren't rushed were dragged on needlessly and vice versa. Some events which were important for plot, either got rushed through, skipped or reordered. Making the major events seem insignificant.
Art - 9/10
Nothing really much to say here since most of the year 2000 onward anime have decent graphics. What I liked were how detailed some of the machines were designed and some of the character designs were really nice as well. Machine and character designs were pretty close to the game so it's good, overall.
Sound - 6/10
SRW series is known for some really amazing soundtracks, namely the character/robot themes. The main flaw regarding sound in Inspectors is that the way the themes are cut off, is very forced, unnatural and breaks the tension, excitement etc. . It does improve as the episodes progress but not much improvement overall.
Character - 7/10
One area in which I think Inspectors did better than the game is character development, namely for Kyosuke. Though the anime focused too much on him and almost all the other characters have close to zero development at all. Some major characters for the story were shafted and practically disappeared for the entire series, while some literally disappeared after appearing once or twice and some characters just suddenly become friendlier towards each other all of a sudden.
Overall - 7/10
As a whole, I rather enjoyed the series, despite it's numerous defects. What I enjoyed the most were all the character, good and bad, machines and attacks being animated. Watching some of the epic scenes in the game getting animated allowed me to relive the moment I played the games, so a good bit of nostalgia there.

When I started on this anime, I kind of regretted watching it because I felt bored at the first episode, but, since I've been looking for an anime that has a strong male character, I decided to watch on and I'm glad I did.
Story - The story is very poor or rather, like most animes, rushed. The series is more about the main character's daily life and interaction with other characters of the series rather than the main character itself. They focused too much on the main characters that the story was neglected and at the end, it was rushed to complete the series. If
...
there were just one more episode, I believe that the anime could've ended on a nicer note.
Art - Like most of the anime that are currently being released, character designs and animations for them are pretty good. I particularly liked the designs of the houses like they were in medival times. Other than that, nothing much to say here.
Sound - The only music worth mentioning is the opening and ending songs. Other than that, I have no impression of any noticable music really. Which is also one of the main flaws of the series. Although fights need not necessarily require music, it does add to the flavour and feel of the situation at hand.
Character - Character development is fantastic. The main character does grow over time and slowly gets people to acknowledge her, though of course it's not like she was ostracized, bullied or looked down upon by the community in the first place, just that she wants to prove a point and she did. The only flaw is that we don't get to actually see the character become strong since everything was rather rushed towards the end.
Enjoyment/Overall - Aside from the flaws I mentioned, I rather enjoyed this series and I do hope that a season 2 will be made. I think that the series will do very well in season 2 should there be one.

NOTE: My review is based on the director's cut/uncensored version.
For those who are lazy to read the entire thing, just read the Overall at the bottom of the page, for those who are not, please read on.
Story - The flow of the story is controlled fairly well. It is slow-paced at the start to allow viewers to get a feel of each character's personality and character, to allow viewers to grow on them. The story then slowly becomes intresting and then gets exciting towards the end. However, like most animes of similar genre, this is where the storyline falls. The "last boss" fight is executed
...
very poorly, killing off any excitement and causing huge disappointment. However, the story does end off nicely which is rather rare considering how the "last boss" fight was botched. Some other flaws are that at the beginning, it will be confusing to grasp some of the concepts in the anime and that the whereabouts of some characters are unexplained, the story does close off nicely, however, the loopholes in the ending gives it at 7/10.
Art - One word, Fantastic. Details and design of characters, buildings, weapons and even side characters were great, defintely one of the good ones I've seen so far, but that's partly due to the advancement of real world technology, props to the author for great designs. 9/10
Sound - Audio was good, great OSTs for daily life, battle and scenarios where things get serious. Seiyus/Voice actors did a good job as well, the voices fit the character's personality and brought out their flavour to the fullest. It lost points for constantly using the same track over and over again. If they had the budget for a 24 episode anime, I don't see why they couldn't have paid some more cash for certain character specific themes. 8/10
Character - Great character development. It did not only focus on the main character but also worked on some of the side characters as well. Some of the characters had their backgrounds shown while others had scenes viewed from their persepectives. Overall, characters weren't over developed but also not under developed. It wasn't a perfect 10 due to some of the characters just appearing from nowhere, without us knowing when or where did they appear. 9/10
Enjoyment & Personal Views - I enjoyed the series as a whole. I only wished I had watched this when it aired and not after my exams because it made chemistry so much more fun and intresting to me. The series has potential for a second season due to loose ends with certain characters. The anime has dropped some minor hints for season 2 as well. Part of the reason I did not enjoy watching this anime is due to certain sounds that will give off the wrong impression to others who hear it. 7/10
Overall - The series itself is alright. Those who are intrested in a school life/fantasy/ecchi series should give this anime a go. Though you might want to be discreet when watching it if you're watching the uncensored version. For those who want the school life and fantasy part, I suggest watching the censored version though I don't know how different it is from the uncensored one.
