As a pretty big fan of this show I was very happy to see yet another season come up in my recc on Netflix!
The show gives us typically what I have have come to expect, a new adventure for Retsuko, a new character, and some development with Retsuko's relationship with Haida. This season surprisingly gave us more focus on Haida than previous seasons, which i was really happy to see. I love him as a character and was happy that this season focused more on him.
The season dives into new company management, and it further develops on it's themes of the working class
...
Japanese person and the struggles that accompany that.
I found the new character less compelling than in previous seasons, and the main plot point of the book-keeping and Haida was new however was less fun to watch as I feel it diminished the characters.
Honestly the character that got the best development this season was the manager Ton.
However i find that, after watching 4 seasons of the show, the plot is getting kind of repetitive and somewhat predictable. I think it's always cool to see Retsuko developing as a character, but when it comes to her and Haida's relationship i have to say it's a bit exhausting. At first, season 1, 2 maybe even 3 it was exciting to watch them possibly get together, but I am at the point where i don't know if i even care at this point, it seems Retsuko just does not like Haida.
Ok so past this there are some spoilers in the review:
when her and Haida seem to finally start dating, it seems so, anti-climatic? And then she meets up with her ex still fora project and doesn't tell him. It is just becoming frustrating to watch Retsuko in any relationship because the more I do the less I like her as a character.
So this season is fun, and if you like the series definitely give it a watch, however I hope next season gives us less repetition of the same themes.

So after reading some reviews, I fall some place in the middle on most.
Komi Can't communicate (so far) has really refreshed me in some elements and disappointed me in others...
I am not a manga reader in this case so I am coming at this from purely an anime perspective.
I would say my main complaint is, as someone who has seen lots of anime and lots of comedy/romance anime, the plot is basic, predictable and nothing new to say.
I think it could have been very interesting to explore social anxiety in the context of a romance anime, but to do that I wish
...
the characters were less comedic and more real.
For comparison, a Silent Voice has lots of characters that make me laugh, but also manage to explain very important messages and push the plot and main cast forward in a very casual way, that's because the characters were believable and had soul. However in this case the characters in this anime don't seem to be very deep, they are mainly surface level, do not seem to have much reason for why they do things, and are actually pretty annoying in some cases.
(SPOILERS)
Like the character, Ren Yamai, in one episode she kidnaps Tadano, ties him up and keeps him in a closet and threatens to kill him. And Komi is still friends with her after this and Tadano doesn't seem to have any huge issues with the character after this episode either. Yes it's anime, and yes it's fictional, but it's because of dumb scenes like this that make the characters not be taken seriously, thus making the journey of Komi and her anxiety not very meaningful, or impactful.
I can enjoy a romance comedy anime, but this one usually fails to make me feel much other than "aww Komi is so cute!" but thats about it.
So if you have made it this far you are probably wondering why I have given it a 6, well mainly because I mean the show is average it's just not special or great and I don't see it being remembered much after it finishes airing. Komi is a very likeable character in some aspects and I find her very cute, Tadano is ok, I like how he's not pervy like most male protagonists in his situation, hes just a nice basic guy, although I wish he had more depth to him. And the other characters are... not great. The animation is good, I especially love the opening and I feel if the show focused more on Komi and Tadano, rather than the other cast, I would like it a lot more.
idk it's aight.

If you enjoy adorable art, characters, and a cute story. This is definitely a fun and underrated read. I own all four books and they are such a cute and funny trip through the arctic.
The story is pretty simple, but the character grows on you and the backstories are surprisingly deep and serious throughout.
There is a lot of interesting tiny nuggets of knowledge and facts about the animal characters and you get to meet a few different species and each has itsa own characteristics and funny personality.
The story is odd, as its a love story where one of the characters is not
...
interested, but the relationship progress' in a satisfying but reasonable way. So that the funny aspects stay in tact.
The art is forever charming to me, it is just so pleasant to look at. This is pretty much a stress-free manga, low stakes and little action, it's good if you want to relax and experience something wholesome.

Ok so I initially wrote a review on this but it was taken down because not a lot of episodes had aired. So I have now watched all 12 available episodes so here we go...
So for starters, I looked at the manga a bit before writing this for some context. It surprises me immensely that this show even got a seasonal anime adaptation. If anything I feel it could have gotten a plot-heavy hentai adaptation, I'm not so sure of how hentai is adapted, as I don't watch it but I assume its also adapted from manga sometimes?
As well there's many who claim it to
...
just be an ecchi-anime however I feel that this goes far beyond that line without crossing the line into full on porn... it sits at a weird place, as there's lots of nudity, scenes with actual semen, pretty graphic sex scenes but no showing of genitals. So it goes beyond ecchi but with no genitals, it can't really be called hentai either.
With that out of the way, I will go onto the main part, the story, and the controversy. I could talk about the animation etc. but the animation is pretty fine, It's nothing amazing and the action scenes are pretty lame for the most part, with poor choreography, little thought, and since the main character is OP there are no high stakes really. it's nothing too bad and nothing too special.
The main claim to fame this anime has is episode 2, where there was a shocking scene with the character Flare and the main character. I saw a lot of people saying that she deserved it and that the scene was actually very impactful etc. I stop there because if there's a piece of content that has people defending rape and justifying it then I usually do a double-take. Now I don't think the anime should be taken down or anything, it has a right to exist, that's freedom of expression, etc. But as a viewer, I have a lot to say about this scene and a lot of the later similar scenes.
First of all, rape is, unfortunately, something that happens, and it's ok for it to be reflected on and talked about in media. Mainstream shows like Game of Thrones, Bad girls, etc all show scenes with rape/implied rape. As well anime like Banana Fish has quite a few scenes that imply rape as well. Here the difference though between let's say a rape scene in the anime Banana Fish and in Redo of healer, In BF the rape is implied, it's not explicitly shown because its not nesisarry. The point is not that it happened and we need to see but rather that this has an effect on the character silently throughout the show and when we put the pieces together it makes us feel for him. It's almost more impactful when it's implied because the viewer gets there on their own.
In Redo, the scene plays out as some sort of "revenge porn" it's glorified, and it's most of the episode, it's a long scene and a graphic one. Now I know Flare did horrible things, and she definitely had bad things coming, however in the scenes where the MC is being raped, you feel for him and think "wow that's awful" which is what you are meant to think. But with Flares rape, the show sets it up so that you are rooting for the rapist. Just think about that for a moment. So no, the two scenes are not the same. One deliberately has the viewer cheering on the abuser. And that setup really disgusted me honestly, there was nothing deep, or impactful about that scene. It was a mix of cheap shock value and gratifying viewers who sided with the MC.
Now normally, this is where I would have dropped it but again I wanted to write a review so, here I am...
The other episodes he builds up his harem until he basically has foursomes by episode 12. Theres usually a sex scene at the end of each episode and his treatment of the female characters is very sad, as he uses them and they're his property pretty much.
As well, this is a "revenge show" well every revenge this guy has, every solution to the problems he faces is just rape and sexual abuse pretty much. Oh, and if it's a guy he just turns them into a girl and gets a bunch of monsters to rape him. So even the revenge aspect isn't creative, it's just another excuse to show more rape, more shocking scenes, and more sex scenes.
So if you are looking for an anime, an actually good anime, there's many out there so please find a different one, unless you like poorly written, lazy, shock value-filled garbage with big boobs and tons of rape and disgusting sexual assault... then this is for you lol.

I was pretty excited to watch this, as I had seen the hype from the manga and never got around to reading it. When I initially saw the trailer and scrolled down to the comments I agreed that I was hopeful that the animation wasn't going to be so "slideshow" but I watched the series and... it is.
The parts where you really see the downside to that animation scene is the action scenes, they're almost frustrating to watch, it a bunch of still figures wiggling...
After doing more research apparently, this animation was intentional, to give it the same feel as the manga... but
...
just because that was a deliberate choice doesn't mean it's a good one... I mean the whole point of an anime adaptation is to give the same story in a different and more ANIMATED way than the manga.
I also thought some characters were just really underdeveloped, like the wife Miku. I have not read the manga, so I am just going off what the anime shows. But they give the audience no reason to understand why this man would give up being a badass gang boss to live with her and be a house husband, why is she special to him, what's the backstory, etc? Why is SHE the person he loves, there's really no romance between the two, they act more like friends or siblings. I was hoping for some reasoning for the character's actions but we get none of that in the anime, which to me was worse than the animation.
BUT on a positive note, the shows pretty charmingly funny, as a Canadian I often don't love comedy shows set in japan as comedy is so culturally tied, and I don't get all the jokes. But here the jokes were pretty universal and it was funny to watch the silly scenes and they were pretty lighthearted which I enjoyed.
As well the English VA isn't too bad although I would recommend the Japanese ver.
The show was really short, I watched it in the morning and it felt like it ended abruptly like there was no planned ending...
Overall, if you like shows like Dragon maid, Nichijou, Lucky star, etc then this would probably be enjoyable. It has a lot of wasted potential but that doesn't make it bad, it just doesn't make it amazing. It's a cute show, I think that's how I would describe it.
