About a week ago, I finished "reading" Classroom of the elite, mostly via autiobook from spotify but it still counts. This isn't so much a critiqueing every bit and pieces about the story and how this SOOO much better than the anime. Which, im sorry to say but it is and I can say that since i watched all 3 season, both in dub and sub. I guess you can call this a yap session. Also, I will be spoiling some parts of the story and certain things that the anime changed or skipped (or even including stuff that wasn't necessary) so, be warned. Here
...
we gooooo-
1. Initial Thoughts:
I have watched the anime first and only started the light novel because it was available on spotify. I would usually listen to it during work so,it was nice listening to this story unfold. What surprised me the most when listening through this series is how much the mc (kiyopon) was significantly more different than his anime counterpart. You see, there is a weird phenomenon that is going on about the main character and how he is a quote "sigma male master manipulator". Through edits, tiktoks, reddit, and even yt shorts, you cannot associate kiyopon without him being an alpha sigma male. To which, the anime making him as such. Getting on topic, The light novels better display this series writing in not only in story telling but also in characters too. And that's especially true for characters like Sudo, Suzune, Ryuuen, and Kiyopon. The way the author carefully constructed each individual characters to slowly develop throughout the series was the most captivating part. I like Horikitas interaction with Sudo and her devastating reaction to seeing her Older Brother go, trying to find a place to cry and let her emotions out. Or with Ryuuen, having a boogeyman type aura about him, never really knowing to what he's going to do, conniving his way throughout this, it was really engaging. I actually think his arc and his face off with kiyopon was the most interesting and entertaining part of the whole series. He is the best big bad in the series, don't really care about Sakayangi. She was boring and in the grand scheme of things, didn't really do much. And also, I find it hilarious how Katsuragi is even more irrelevant here than in the anime. Seriously, like you could've done something with him, maybe even expanded upon him or have him do something. Ig we'll see in year 2, lol. Anyhow, really great listen, would recommend.
2. The Anime (uh oh)
After reading/listening to this, i can confidently say that this is way better than the anime and it's not even close. First off, I would like to say that the anime, in terms of production and cinematography, its disappointing and generic. Emphasis on generic too, like omg, shit just looks so....blah. everything to the art style, the animation, and even the soundtrack, it's just so generic. And I can't even say the writing saves it because IT DOESNT. They either skips scenes, change something that wasn't necessary, and even include scenes that aren't necessary to what they're going for. I'm not gonna list all of the changes/shit they didnt add but to name some..the location and events involving Hashimoto, Ryuuen, and Kanzaki, most of Nagamos appearances, some essential Koeji scenes, the aftermath of Horikitas brother leaving/Horikitas outburst, ect. Like why you, why. Season 4 of the anime is coming out so, hopefully it'll be better since it's Yesr 2. I'll still watch it tho, lol. I feel like this series would be so much popular if they actually put some effort into making the anime into a psychological, drama, with a bunch of school stuff. And even though they did put some of the .5 volumes in the anime, please don't do it again. They're basically filler, don't lie, you know it's true okay guys.
3. Idk uhhhh
Overall, I enjoyed this series. I saw potential for year 1 and from what I've read on the first volume of year 2, it's showing. I'm glad I picked this series back up.
