Overpowered characters are easy to mess up. Too often you see a character being unbeatable just to fuel the power fantasy of the reader. However, when it is done write it can create something hilarious and beautiful, like One Punch Man for example. This anime, written by the same author, is equally as good if not better than OPM.
Story: This is definitely one of Mob Psycho's biggest strengths. I won't bore you with a summary you could easily look up but I will tell you this, the story gets better with time. The first few episodes are, in my opinion, the worst but it gets
...
better, much better. However, because of those first few, I can't give the story anything higher than a 9/10.
Art: This is where Studio Bones quality really shines. At a surface level, the art is fairly simplistic. However, because of that, it allows the animation and art style to go absolutely WILD. Don't get me wrong, this is no Violet Evergarden or even OPM but it is still fantastic, so I give it a 9/10.
Sound: The Soundtrack of Mob Psycho is good, but I didn't see any standout songs. The closest thing to one would be the opening, 99 by Mob Choir. However, since nothing outside of that truly stands out to me I give the sound department an 8/10.
Character: I'm going to be honest, at one point through watching this show I found some of the characters so intolerable I stopped watching for a month or so. However, just like the story, you'll eventually fall in love with them. The conman who I despised at the beginning of the show, Reigen, became one of the best characters by the end. Anyways, these characters are all fantastic so a 9/10 is necessary.
Enjoyment: This is the most subjective category of any review, as it most of all depends on the personal tastes and experiences of the viewer. Given my stage in life, I was able to relate to Mob Psycho on a very personal level. The idea of being good at one thing but gaining a dependence on it and never really having to try in anything else is actually surprisingly relatable. This is why it's so compelling for me to see Mob try to become better and grow as a human. Whenever I watch Mob Psycho, I just get a warm happy feeling so I give the enjoyment of the show a 10/10.
Overall, Mob Psycho is an overpowered character story done right, with a host of stunning visuals, likable characters, and deep plot elements. Along with this, personally Mob Psycho was a very relatable show for me. Yet, some minor issues such as the slow beginning, simplistic art, non-remarkable soundtrack, and a few characters that started out unlikable hold it back from a 10/10. Even so, Mob Psycho is one of my favorite shows of all time and a 9/10.
