This will cover all 3 seasons of the Fruits Basket remake and contains what I think are SLIGHT SPOILERS.

TLDR:
This is just rambling
TLDR:
If you want a complete and fulfilling slice of life romance drama then watch this. It's worth the time. It's great for the most part. But the things that I think bring down the story are some circumstances that exist only to serve the plot, repetitiveness of character backstory, and the ending may not be convincing. You might agree or disagree with any of these points and more, but even if you agreed with them all, I still think the journey this
...
series takes you on it worth it.
TLDR Over:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel like the author of Fruits Basket hates their parents because most of the conflict in this series are caused by evil parents that are shitty for no reason. Too many characters have trauma because of their shitty parents. One of the few exceptions is our main heroine Tohru, who's mom died in an accident. It just had to be her. Everyone's shitty parent got to torment their child for years except the good parent. Ok sure. But then she can't live with her relatives because they are also just shitty despicable people and she has to camp out in the woods. Holy shit what the hell she's only a high schooler.
More bad things continue to happen to Tohru because the universe just has it out for her, until she's taken in by a kind hearted member of the Soma family. This guy is a true chad. They try to trick you into thinking he was the true final boss halfway through the story with his sinister scheming and plotting in the background, but it turns out he was just going around actually fucking everyone's mom while other characters sorted out the plot. Truly someone to be admired.
So early on it's revealed that the Soma family are magic people that turn into animals when they come into physical contact with the opposite gender. They are all bound to their "God" Akito, and Akito happens to be an evil little psycho that demands absolute obedience to her. This includes sexual obedience for some and maybe she'll just feel like beating the shit out of another. Akito is the head of the rich Soma family so she has a lot of power.
Except they don't show what actually forces members of the Soma family to obey Akito. Nothing is stopping them from moving far away with their loved ones and living their lives away from her influence. They all seem to have some sense of duty to her because of a magic bond. One of them even threatens Akito with physical violence and nothing happens to him. So it looks like this whole family is just allowing this tyrant to abuse them.
There are lots of ships to be sailed in this show. Lots of characters have their partner and our main girl Tohru has her love triangle going on and it's not obvious who will win at first, which I like.
So yeah, that's all I really cared about mentioning. I don't know how to wrap up this review neatly. I don't even like calling it a review because I think reviews are stupid and I don't think I or anyone is some authority on the quality of an anime. I just wanted to point out some problems I had with the show. But EVERY show has problems. Those problems I mentioned are some you might expect and I found this series enjoyable and worthwhile despite them, I think it's worth the time investment to watch it and judge for yourself.
