I Hate it
When I watched it in my eyes it was different from what I'm used to, but then just from the fact that it still has some similarities from the fantasy genre while also show casing the a different person's perspective lured me to it's deeper and more complex story
It may not be for everyone, let's get this straight. It's not an Isekai, it's not a harrem, The main character is a woman and the Elf may not be the same kind of Elves most are used to, The story pacing is slow, and it's world building is simple and yet the different perspective
...
of an Elven Wanderer makes it what I said before more praise worthy.
Only those who has fair understanding of the typical Fantasy genre those who have seen it all, the classic defeating demonlords and saving the kingdom, only them can appreciate it's side of story telling even more.
Sure for some they may hate it from being too overrated and some may get disappointed that it lack those certain action thrilling scenes but then I do know what they're talking about I also read the manga. (mostly a battle of attrition) who can out last each other and in terms strategy.
But then it being the way it is makes it refreshing.
The story mostly revolves around and main character Frieren an elven mage who had lived for more than hundreds of years and now living in a peaceful era... No more slaying for the sake of the world type of thing, and if you asked Her, she would avoid all those troublesome encounters and make the show even more generally peaceful and wholesome. And yet she chooses a path where she's realise how to be human. In Frieren's eyes A hundred years could just merely be a week in Human terms, any person she meets are like children, Our human problems are nothing but whims. And yet she find herself understanding those whims are more than just that.
To us humans those relationships are natural, easily understood but old as she is, she has little to no experience to that.
The Magic system is what a few might say (lazy writing)
"The power of imagination" I know what they mean. And yet of course in their world magic became mundain as trivial as drawing in a piece of paper specially if it's skipped fast ahead into an era of peace after the war with the demons. Like how technology advance for us irl. A smartphones of today has the same or more processing power than those computers that sent humans to space. Complicated as they are we take those for granted and used them everyday in our hands. Not all know how the inner workings but almost all know how to use.
Im off topic ( ^ ^`), Of course the gap and years of experience will off set the balance of power and yet that's not the case in this magic system. They're are also Control, Capacity, Compatibility, Mastery, Intuition and Imagination.
It may seem lazy writing at face value but those who understands technology in our world doesn't always mean the older you are the better you are at it.
Those who likes Demons.. I know where they're coming from. Frieren is what I would call a Racist. Ive read until Chapter 100 in the manga. Those generic plot of humans fighting each other this is not that. Even none human races has compation, even beast type characters has the capability to appear human emotionally and intellectually (sorry for a lack of better words) but this show is nothing like that. The Demons are like "the goblins in Goblin Slayer" it is shown that Demons are Monster beyond human understanding,
The Other Characters, The other characters are not the Hereos and Adventures most has the capability to emphasise with. To be honest Starks Cowardly nature is distasteful at first, Sein's personal problem seem interesting and Umbel and Land's Chemistry seems too plain. Along with their personality.
But
Stark's humbling personality is what I like about him. He is actually the typical Hero Adventurer type believe it or not.
He is Charimatic, Hardworking, Though he's innocent personality is refreshing 100 pts for that. Cowardly yes also due to the fact that it was shown but for those who missed it, his strength is actually on par with Eisen and I'm sure you'll continue to miscalculate the monsters and allies strength, all because it is in the perspective of Frieren. But The only difference between Stark and Eisen is battle experience.
Sein is very relatable specially those who have experienced the regret and remembering past untaken opportunities.
Ubel is Complicated I understand if you think they're expressionless but only those who can pick up her intuitive nature... The people who acts on impulse will truly find her driven and mysterious. While Land is just the classic Close-book type.. Notin more to say
Their Chemistry is so Unnatural that I find myself getting curious.
I Hate it when nobody understands how awesome this show is but I who cares... "We like what we like" it doesn't have to be for everyone. Let your hate be heard then admit to those who's love you haven't heard.

It's Very Interesting. Each episodes are intriguing, keeps you hooked and wanting for more. The Movie(Ep1) is top notched solid back story for the main series.
The Pacing's not too quick or too slow... Some people might think its "slow paced"... But to me its the normal pacing for a pure story drama plot. The Plot at first may seems typical, but a few surprises here and there inevitable makes everything you know thus far as wrong and the rest a mystery The Characters, yes I totally understand why others think its slow cuz some characters are slow in their progress but the main character has his goal ... |
