I originally posted this review on March 13th, but was recently informed that I'd posted it on the page for the light novel (I don't really use my account on this site, which is why I only saw the comment today), so I'm reposting it here:
While definitely not perfect, the series was still pretty enjoyable up to a certain point.
It plays with the reader's expectations quite a bit in a few interesting/creative ways (A lot of it is still fairly predictable, but there are a few twists that are genuinely surprising), while pushing the concept of a cliche "love triangle" WAY past its limits.
Ultimately, this
...
manga isn't great, but I still mostly managed to enjoy it, and found some of it to be a bit refreshing.
However... At a certain point, the manga has a very clear end. Everything was wrapped up (Absolutely no loose ends), and I was left relatively satisfied with the results...
But then, for some reason, it keeps going.
It's unclear WHY it keeps going (Since all of the conflicts have been resolved, and there's really nothing left for the characters to do, aside from move on with their lives), but it does. And this is where the story ends up losing any redeeming qualities that it may have previously had (I won't spoil it, but this part of the story starts with one of the dumbest, most unnecessary twists I've ever seen... And kind of just cheapens the relationship the protagonist has with one of the main characters a bit), basically just devolving into blatant fan service (The characters lose what made them interesting, and it just feels like the author felt obligated to release more chapters, despite the fact that the actual story ended at around chapter 10).
If it weren't for this section of the series, my score for it would probably be a bit higher, but if you want to ignore/forget this part (Or just skip it entirely, since it really contributes nothing to the actual story, and serves no real purpose... As I said, the manga already has a very clear end, so you wouldn't really be missing out at all if you decided to just stop reading there):
The series was alright. Not incredibly amazing or memorable, and certainly not without its flaws (The writing isn't the best, and characters sometimes react, behave, or think in unbelievable/unrealistic ways), but it was okay.

Holy FUCK did I hate this manga...
And the worst part is that it was genuinely enjoyable up to a certain point (And even past that point, there were a few decent scenes mixed in every now and then)... But after a while, I just reached the point where I could no longer stomach it.
It starts off pretty good. The premise is fairly lazy (The main character gets randomly turned into a girl by a god for no real reason), but the interactions between the main characters tend to be amusing and cute.
At first, Mizuki (The main character) retains his boyish personality, while also having a
...
bit of a hidden feminine side... But as he gets progressively more feminine (Which I wasn't too fond of, personally, since it felt a little bit forced/unnatural at times), the way he's treated as a character gets progressively worse.
And it's not just that he's much more frequently (To the point where it actually gets a bit annoying) used for cheap fan service... People who are supposedly his friends don't even treat him like a person anymore in several scenes. Even his best friend, Takeru, repeatedly tries to rape him (Both when he's clearly drunk and otherwise)... And this is a friend that supposedly cares about him a lot, to the point where he essentially ends up becoming the main love interest. It was cute when Takeru was a bit overprotective of Mizuki, but it eventually ended up devolving into a creepy possessiveness somewhere along the line (To the point where he's often aggressively pushy, and treats his friend like an object, despite the fact that he's supposedly fallen in love with him).
And Takeru isn't even the worst part of the series (Far from it, since he's at least incredibly inconsistent, and can sometimes be a really nice, likable guy... When the author's in the mood for it).
This brings me to my main problem with Boku Girl: For whatever reason, it insists on constantly pushing new disgusting characters on the reader... And I refuse to believe that anyone actually wanted this.
First, there's an extremely muscular gay man who keeps trying to force himself on Mizuki in a variety of ways (A lot of manga are fond of including some relatively homophobic depictions of gay men for comic relief... And it's rarely funny... It's usually just really gross and uncomfortable, as it is here).
Then, there's a perverted cross-dresser (He goes around wearing nothing but women's underwear much of the time... Often in public) that becomes creepily obsessed with Mizuki (He immediately knows Mizuki is a woman, and frequently harasses him/her in various ways). For some completely unknown reason, he actually ends up becoming a friend of the main characters (More or less), and is even allowed to permanently stay in Mizuki's dorm room (He's not reported or anything, and they pretty much just allow him to do whatever he wants, to an extent... I guess since he's just more unnecessary comic relief, we're expected to brush it off, and act like there's nothing wrong with them hanging out with this creep).
And lastly... There's Mizuki's father. Who wants to fuck his own son. And has wanted to fuck his own son since he was a toddler.
This is about when I gave up on continuing the series.
I really did try to continue, hoping that his father would at least just be used for a one-time gag... But this wasn't what happened, and if anything, his father just continued to become more and more prevalent in the story (Not even as one of the disgusting comic relief characters... He was quickly becoming a genuinely important part of the plot... And not for the fact that he's an actual fucking pedophile, since that's predictably brushed off, as if it doesn't matter).
It's unfortunate, since I really did enjoy this manga in the beginning, despite its flaws (The writing/story could be pretty weak, and all the main characters, aside from Mizuki and Takeru, were pretty generic and boring... But despite that, Mizuki and Takeru's relationship was interesting/enjoyable enough that I was willing to deal with the rest of it). However, there came a point when the manga just turned out to be flat out repulsive for me.
And just to clarify, I wasn't actually offended by the manga (Despite how it may sound... I thought a lot of it was kind of in bad taste, but I'm not really bothered by it, and don't judge anyone for being a fan of it)... I was just disappointed.
I saw a lot of potential in the series earlier on, even though it had many weak points (And those weak points just got worse as the series went on as well... It felt like the characters were actually starting to make some progress for a little while, but then a lot of the chapters ended up just being repetitive filler with the sole purpose of reversing any progress made... This is a really common problem with romantic anime/manga, so it's not as if it was unexpected, but still...). It's a shame that it turned out this way, since I was thoroughly enjoying the dynamic between Mizuki and Takeru, and I'd hoped to see it through to the end... But unfortunately, there's no real point in reading further for me.
