DISCLAIMER: I don't like writing reviews, for it's frustrating. I get to deal with a paradox: Great stuff deserves a great review, but any review spoils the experience of anyone who is reading it. Greater stuff deserves an even greater review, which, in turn, has even bigger potential to spoil it..
Well, whatever!
Let's do a quick test if you should proceed!
1) Fan of the original series? - WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? Just go and watch it..
2) Not a fan?- well, I can say Steins;Gate 0 is better than the predecessor.. And yeah, you shouldn't read the review either.
If you know what you're doing, proceed
...
of course..
HOW TO MAKE A GREAT ANIME:
Make your audience wait
Make it wait a lot
Profit
Okay so Steins;Gate 0 followed the same recipe as it's predecessor, but took it even further: you WILL get bored to hell. They won't unleash anything really interesting for quite a long time. Ohh but then..
Ohh, Steins;Gate 0..
The same old statement on never giving up, presented perfectly in the original Steins;Gate.
..this time, on a whole different, deeper level.
After a long and heavy interlude of passivity, depression and resignation, we get to see Hououin Kyouma come back, reborn with a kind of resolve that is rarely seen in any form of visual arts. I would dare to call it: the best come back in anime history, ever!
The best stories tend to inject its audience with a strong positive feeling. Steins;Gate 0 definitely accomplishes that: you will get a genuine feeling that anything is possible, with all your excuses gone.
Quite an unusual effect for a dark-themed anime, heh?
P.S. The pacing in the anime is better than in visual novel. The ending is changed and more detailed in anime, and it's whole lot better!
