I'm not really well-versed when it comes to music and anime but I'll give my 'normal person' review.
First of all,for a 2017 anime, this could have had better premise. The love triangle should have been more subtle. And there should have been a better character development especially for Alice. The 'comedy' in there wasn't that funny. Lastly, the drama was kinda forced.
What caught me was the first episode. It was really nice, especially the music. The characters were nice too, at the beginning. but then, i felt like everything went haywired when they always had flashbacks after.
But there's really no harm in wanting ... to watch it. Maybe it just didn't suit my taste. that's all.

I initially scored this as an 8 because as far as I could remember, it was really good. But then when I re-watched this, I realized BSD's first season didn't really start off as a bang. I get that they introduce the characters with their abilities an/or story with each episode, which really did paid off for season 2 and 3 as well as the movie.
But season 1 was lacking something. It seems like they were just running around in circles with the 12 episodes and then it started picking up in the last moments. Another problem was having too many good characters. Let's ... be honest, they really did have promising characters with a cool premise of a detective agency vs port mafia; however, with the number of characters in the story, it's hard to be attached to them all in just 12 episodes, with no clear plot at all.
Thus, I gave it a 6 for this season only. However, one must not lose hope. For better watching experience, I suggest you continue watching till it finish because it'll get much better in the next episodes.

It's my first time writing a review an anime so please don't hold it against me. I just wanna say that the anime is really great, considering it was produced in 2013. The timing of quoting Shakespeare in each episode is really good. They handled the flashback so well and that's mainly one of the reasons why I got hooked in the story. The story though, well if I watched this early on, it would have been better(so that i can't compare it to others). It has some holes in the story because there's a lot of supporting characters that could have made bigger impact, ... but they didn't get enough spotlight even though it has 24 episodes. At first I thought that the author would give in to the watchers' indirect request to turn tides and make the main characters special(like mages), but what was special was their bond and personality. Overall, it's really nice. You should watch it especially if you're past the 'newbie phase in anime

p.s. newbie phase is when you start becoming an anime fan but you only watch the popular ones or the ones you see in tiktok.
