Maybe like me, you watched the first episode of the anime because you thought "Why not" and you were pleasantly surprised. So you decided to read the manga out of curiosity and want to know what this series is about. Is it worth reading or watching? I hope to help answer such questions. Naturally, this review will contain spoilers of what is likely volumes 1-2 of the manga.
Story
What the story of this series is at its core: Is a harem about a middle-aged man(Yoshida) who has fallen in love with a high school girl(Sayu) and how he deals with other girls his age, at his
...
workplace that also have a romantic interest in him. Nothing about this story is particularly bad. It is the way the story is dressed up at the beginning to be about Yoshida, an intelligent character that can read the mood, taking Sayu in without taking advantage of her. This sets the stage for Sayu to mature, realizing that she can't run away forever and coming to terms with having to go back home. However, it turns into a big competition of who can get Yoshida's affection taking away any natural drama could be established with Suya deciding to come in contact with family to prepare to go home. The way the story is dressed up and what it reveals itself to be(a harem) is bad. The potential is defiantly what hooks you but it sadly takes the path of a generic harem because of how characters act.
Characters
Yoshida - He is introduced as someone who is capable, smart and kind. There is nothing wrong with taking Suya in but what would be wrong is taking advantage of the situation as countless of other men have during her 6 months on the run. His self-restraint is likeable but it doesn't change the fact that he is attracted to her which is understandable. What is sad about this character is that the author dumbs him down for situations like Mishima's confession. For someone who has been rejected himself to play off what was clearly her confession was completely out of character, especially when he picked up various details about Sayu just by talking to her for the first time when he was drunk and after waking up. He is dumbed down to a generic harem MC surrounded by big boobed girls that he lusts over but when push comes to shove, he won't touch them because the only real love interest he has is Suya.
Suya - A girl with a misconstrued values which can be blamed on the adults that took advantage of her I guess. She has normalized her life on the run and has lost her sense of self-worth. What could drive her to such an extent? I would love to know too because it will be a make or break for the series if the reason isn't good enough. A cute girl to sympathize with but what she really needs is a reality check.
Other characters- Gotou is the work colleague Yoshida basically lusted over for 5 years. He knows nothing about her but always goes on about her boobs and thinks he loves her. Asami is a foolish to even bringing up Suya to her "creepy" colleague at work after he literally described a run away girl he used to sleep with. This is after talking to Yoshida and showing enough intelligence to work out he was lying about Suya. This lead to artificial drama because the author turned off everyone's brain for some tension. Although, I guess if he didn't, the series would just be another harem with a dumb MC. Mishima is just there to advise the MC, she really has no chance and is just used as a "wtf are you doing Yoshida" button.
The series' characters are underdeveloped and offer nothing but lectures to the two main leads. Gotou is literally waiting for the MC like she has a chance, Mishima already got rejected and the 4th harem member has only been introduced. Sayu's eventual return home and development is given a back seat so Yoshida can have a harem. The story's potential is given a back making it average at best once you see past the Suya's seduction and the pretty girls after Yoshida. For me, actively wasting time on introducing a new harem member instead of developing existing members who need it or Suya who is your female lead makes this series below average.

*Spoiler warning*
"Are you the only one who loves me?". Going into this series blind and having watched the first episode(ep) that title carried a lot of meaning, set expectations for the direction this series would take and most importantly established a framework for the story. This held true until around ep 5 where this idea would completely collapsed leading into a terribly generic and disappointing ep 6. After watching the first 4 eps keeping the title in mind, it is obviously begging the question of whether "the stalker" is really the only one who truly loves him. Ep 5 easily answers that question with a
...
simple no, is there an issue with this? Not particularly but it makes me wonder why the pretentious title? At the end of the day it is nothing more than bait and is completely misleading. That is the reason why I find this series to be poor, it begins by poking fun at generic rom-com characters like the childhood friend and the beautiful president. Yet it falls into the same generic plot after 5 eps, it went from a jokey "what if" I got this harem like I imagined and schemed for to a, I do get this harem but like every other MC in a rom-com do absolutely nothing.
This naturally leads into the story and characters. Again it tries not to be generic and pokes fun at the genre yet ironically the story and characters are generic. The kind touchy childhood friend and the shy president's only twist is that they have no romantic feelings for the MC for 4 eps. Naturally past this ep 4 they do suddenly like him disregarding how he schemed to make a harem out of them. How he schemed to make them fall in love with him and how he wanted to keep one of them when the other went out with his best friend. So like the generic tropes they are, they like the MC because he is a nice guy forgetting all about how he tried to manipulate them for the sake of the story. The MC himself past ep 4 never tries to scheme or manipulate anyone again, he is the nice guy he always "pretended" to be but in reality that was always him. The author essentially killed any brains he had in the first 4 eps, leaving him at the mercy of his harem which he gloated about in the first few eps. This naturally turns him into a generic MC. It honestly makes you wonder why when he wanted a harem and he gets one which he is fully aware of because the president kisses his cheek he does nothing. It is genuinely annoying and frustrating to see the MC go on and on about Pansy at the baseball game been attractive and him stealing look at her to have that same girl confess and have him do absolutely nothing(On-top of the fact he fascinated about her in his harem in her underwear lol).
All of the mentioned above just makes this story, characters and my overall enjoyment disappointing. This series would have been a 5, just another rom-com but it had the audacity to use such a misleading title. On-top of this is it poked fun at the generic tropes of its genre and later gladly walked down the beaten path which makes it worse in my opinion. With my short time with the manga, the adaptation was true to the source so it can't be faulted. In terms of what is good about this show, the art is fair.

This anime falls within the slow paced drama genres with some magic to spice things up, if you have watched 5cm per second, just because or your name then you have already essentially experienced all there is to this anime but the other shows did it better. So why bother watching? For the characters naturally and sadly this show fails horribly at it but to make this consistent I will express my views on the characters, story and then finally the art.
Characters(Hitomi *Spoilers*)
The characters in this show are so weak it is sad, our main character Hitomi to be blunt is stale, listless and easily
...
forgettable. She has lost her sense of color since she was a child for an unknown reason, doesn't like magic cause reasons and therefore is anti-social and shy cause reasons. She most have had the worst childhood ever for her to be so negative just because she can't see colours, she doesn't talk to anyone at all clearly because in ep 2 she goes on about how no one has ever said they want to see her magic or
how it can make someone happy. This show also loves forcing drama down your throat making any tension painful unnatural or outright stupid. Example: ep2 she finally says she wants to see Shou's art, hooray finally wasn't so hard was it? Why was there even tension for such a simple question? When she sees it nothing happens end of issue. Yup that is it, queue credits lol. I find her genuinely frustrating, she is a character that is portrayed as some victim (Thanks to Shou and grandma) who is innocent but she is very much incompetent and self pitying. However, because I need to say what I like about this show, in terms of Hitomi I like how she is pretty, thanks P.A Works.
Shou is a typical edgy guy who is considered a loner but has a few close friends. Yet he must still be a edgy loner and uptight about everything apparently so he is I'll say mean to the obviously introverted Hitomi. Don't worry though they say opposites attract, he'll probably have some back story as to why he has got to be negative all the time.
Supporting characters are all cliche. Wow that was quick guess the root of this show's issues are the two main characters surprise surprise.
Story
We all know the story, if not read the summary. It is nothing special with only Hitomi's progression driving it which is a shame because I don't call asking a question then getting happy over someone saying something nice to you about the thing you hate progression. Well we are on ep 2 so fingers crossed this show can actually turn out to be good.
Edit: Hello, here from the future at ep 4, nothing has changed. It is so pathetic that I didn't even need to change my review I wrote from ep 2!
Art
Absolutely fantastic. The visuals are great and the show is pure eye candy. The only issue is that Hitomi seems to be permanently blushing for some reason... In-fact make that all the females hmmm.
Verdict: This show is average if you can look past the terrible characters. If you are like me and can't stand them it is simply bad, cringey and even frustrating to watch which is a huge shame because I'm a huge romance fan.
