I specifically want my money back for the Netflix subscription from the writers, and I'm giving this series the first one-star review I've ever made on this website.
This show is like a drop tower that doesn't go up slowly, or a rollercoaster that starts at the top and then goes to nothing but a straight path till it slowly, slowly, slowly slows down, without any breaks until it finally stops, and by that point, you don't care anymore, are bored/emotionally disconnected, and want a refund. It promised so much more, was actually kinda fun at first, and then wasted your time at the end -
...
the most important part of a story.
What would otherwise be a great series is marred by horrible writing and an unfulfilling and largely uninteresting ending for the characters. People may like it now but just as with every show that destroys its character investment with the audience, it will be a flash in the pan for that attention. It is no surprise then that most people's attention is mainly given to the rather nice animation by Trigger, and which I am all the more annoyed about, given it gets dragged down by the writing.
Writers must give the audience some sort of emotional satisfaction, be it happy, sad, conflicted, etc. However, if a story leaves me suddenly uncaring about any of its cast, I won't feel anything from the consequences of the narrative. This story felt like it went out of its way to make you care less and less about most of its characters. However, it didn't stop there, but further wasted whatever little emotional investment I'd made into any of them rather than giving any kind of completion or emotional fulfillment.
I do not see how such a narrative is supposed to make me feel anything towards it, not even sad or even disappointed. A lot of characters die in it, but people dying in stories isn't in and of itself interesting or emotionally shocking - goons die all the time. Killing off your characters, much less basically turning them into goons, purposefully defeats the point of having a fantastical narrative, to begin with. Instead of making me feel anything for the show, it will just leave me angry at the writers for wasting my time without any payoff for what little interest they may have garnered.
So I say again, I want my money back.
