I’ve made two grievous mistakes in my life; one eating a spoonful of wasabi, and two watching mars of destruction because I did not heed the warnings. By divine intervention I was prevented from making a third. I came really close to not watching this anime. I read the synopsis for Overlord, I remember thinking “great, another second-rate story.” It sounded unappealing, at best I thought this anime was going to be a lame rip-off of SAO. I’ve never to been happier to be wrong, Overlord is the best anime of 2015. I apologize if I sound dogmatic, but those who’ve
...
watched the series can attest to the veracity of my words.
When I first started watching anime, I remember watching epic series after epic series. Then after a while they started to dwindle and I was forced to watch mediocracy. Not so with Overlord, this anime keep me fully immerse in the story. I was at the edge of my seat and it felt as if I was on this adventure alongside the protagonist. As I mentioned before the synopsis on MAL does not do this anime justice. The story flows really well and everything is explained appropriately. There are moments of actual humor, I love the inner dialogue of the protagonist. There are no dull instances or fillers. Everything happened with a purpose and was highlighted by the epic fight scenes and calculated scenarios.
Momonga or Ainz Ooal Gown is the only character that is not a NPC. Most of the story revolves around his perspective. I will admit he falls under the category of overpowered. However, given that he has spent a great deal of time and money playing the game and was the only one still playing while the server was discontinued. His strength and power will certainly be understandable. He is joined by several NPC’s that he and his friends had created over the years. Each NPC is unique in appearance and personality and added to the overall awesomeness of the anime. Given that I want to remain as spoiler free as possible I will refrain going into further details about the characters.
The only real problem I had with this anime was that it was only 13 episodes. Although the story did not feel rush in the slightest, I felt betrayed because the story stop. This anime could have at least been made into a 24 episode series. Now I am a little concern because from what I’ve heard Madhouse, the producers of Overlord, are not too keen in making sequels.
The art is really crisp and the amination is very well done. The music and sound were very enjoyable. The opening song was extremely good and appropriate for the anime. If you cannot tell by now I absolutely loved this anime. Just about everything about this anime was done exceptionally well. This anime certainly has the qualifications to be called epic.

In order to best understand my review I feel it would be best if I divulge a bit of my personal history. I am not on any drugs, hallucinogens, or medications. I have never been in a mental hospital. I have always done well in school, overall those around me consider me as a “pretty smart guy”. With all that in mind can someone explain to me two things; one what the hell did I just watch and two why is this anime ranked so high.
This anime is confusing as hell
...
and it makes no sense. For every question answered at least three more are raised. It’s going to be a difficult task but I will try to keep my review spoiler free. Forget about all the so called facts you read in the synopsis. Just about every “truth” is impugn. My biggest issue with this anime is that it fails to establish definite laws of physics and logic and not in the good Dragonball Z way but the maybe I have to be high or crazy to have some semblance of what’s happening.
The characters are overly complicated. Every time you learn more of their past it leaves more questions than answers. The producers fail to make the characters sympathetic. There is no logic in this world it is utter chaos, there is no telling what is possible or what was even real. It started off very decent and I wanted ever so to love this anime. However, with each episode it gets more confusing to the point that it stops being entertaining and your left to wonder why in the world would anyone ever write this, let alone watch it. It felt as if a bunch of writers wrote a bunch of stories and decided to merge all of them regardless if it made sense or not. Throughout the whole anime you can see that the producers are trying to convey a message but they failed. This anime is certainly unique, but I feel that most people are confused just because something is unique does not make it any good.

As one of the most popular anime of 2014, I was looking forward to watch Tokyo Ghoul. However, I must say that I am very disappointed. I might come off as being harsh to some but I believe I am justified when I say that this anime is unremarkable and easily forgettable. There are two seasons of Tokyo Ghoul, but considering that season two is a direct continuation, I feel it would be most appropriate to examine both as one.
A strong introductory first episode lead me to believe that I might have to add Tokyo Ghoul to my favorite’s column, but at last
...
I came to realize I was deceive. Our protagonist, Ken Kaneki, is a shy college student who happens to be bookworm. Not the most unique of characters but he is who he is. He befriends a beautiful girl, Rize Kamishiro, who also appears to love books just as much as him. He is smitten and takes Rize on a date. As they are walking home Rize reveals that everything was a façade, she is actual a ghoul and beginnings to attack Ken. A construction “accident” miraculously kills Rize and saves Ken’s life. He is left unconscious and later discovers to his great consternation that some of Rize organs were transferred into his body during surgery. He now becomes half human and half ghoul and his story for survival commences.
The premise is very appealing, however I feel that the story is incomplete and has too many holes. For example, the producers fail to provide adequate information about ghouls, after finishing the series I still do not fully know what a ghoul is. In fact, the producers provided very little background in general. Although I must stress that the first season was very entertaining. It appears that they were trying to build some intrigue and provide answers later on. However, season two provided little to no answers. *SPOILER *Almost every ghoul knew of Rize Kamishiro and was interested in her in some form. But the story provided no background into her past. In one scene Ken breaks into a ghoul prison and ends up fighting an inmate who surprise surprise is only focus on Rize. He is much stronger and ken proves no match for him. The fight scene is cut and that inmate disappears with no explanation is never seen again. Also, after Ken’s transformation into a full ghoul, he joins the enemy faction and provides no clear motive. His only explanation is that he wants to protect those he love. How exactly will joining Aogiri tree (enemy faction) help protect them?* The story, mostly the second season, felt force. Bits and pieces of information were thrown in with no real coherence. I keep on waiting for the story to gradually provide some answers and explanations but that never happened.
In all honestly I did not like most of the characters, this is my personal opinion therefore it may vary from other people. Omitting the torture scene Ken Kaneki was weak and a wimp, personally I find this very annoying. After his transformation into a full ghoul he becomes stronger but too distant and mysterious to the viewer. Touka Kirishima is a tsundere, very cliché. Amon is one of the few characters that I enjoyed. They revealed a little of his past which help explains some of his motives and aided the audience in connecting with him. Yoshimura fulfilled his role admirably. Tsukiyama was incredibly irritating I hated him. His extravagant gestures, tone and mannerism frustrated me. Juuzou is another one of my favorites, an enigmatic character always willing to provide some comic relief. Hide was an essential piece to the story but very little is known about him much like Rize. Most of the remaining characters are extras and don’t really add to the story.
The animation was very well done and the character design were practically flawless. The fights were undoubtedly very visually appealing. The opening and ending music were unsatisfactory, they did not create an impact.
Granted, not by design, my review can appear as if I am attacking this anime. However, I tried eminently to enjoy this anime. Tokyo Ghoul certainly had the potential but disappointed in most areas. It was obvious that the producers were in a rush and crudely assembled the story. Although I did not read the manga, from the comments that I read the producers did not stick to the manga and did a poor job in the adaptation. Tokyo Ghoul is not terrible but as a whole this anime was rather lackluster.

This is my first review so please bear with me.
4441 is what Okami kakushi is ranked on Myanimelist. For this reason I felt compel to write this review. I saw the first episode of Okami kakushi and needless to say it grab my interest, it was very good. Then I went on Myanimelist to read more about it and notice that it was ranked 4441. I was disappointed but I continued to watch it because like I said the first episode was very good. Every episode that I watched after that I was waiting for the story to fall apart
...
or a character to go crazy. Which is actually a testament to how good this anime is because even thought I watched every episode with the wrong mindset I still enjoyed it. I’m going to be brutally honest Okami kakushi is not my favorite anime, not even close. However, it does not deserve to be ranked at 4441. In my opinion it’s a lot better than many of the anime in the top 1000. I can’t say how many times I ended watching an anime because it was ranked relatively high but turned out to be complete crap. I want to name and scrutinize a few but I respect other people’s opinion and I don’t want a bunch of hate messages from people because I was making fun of their favorite anime.
Anyways back to the review. Im going to try to convince you that Okami kakushi is a good anime. One, Okami kakushi is not the prequel or sequel to Higurashi. So don’t be surprise or hate if it doesn’t follow the same story that Higurashi does. Two, Okami kakushi has legit suspense and mystery. I am going to try to keep this from having any spoilers. Hiroshi, the protagonist, moved to a new town and soon begins to realize that things are not always what they seem. The town has a weird folk tale, his classmates act strange around him, and people are disappearing. Not the most original but definite mystery and suspense. Three, most of the mystery surrounding the town is explained. In my personal experience there are many anime that don’t explain things. It was nice to see that Okami kakushi did so I was not left with a huge hole in the story. Fourth, the characters are a little cliché but it doesn’t mean that they were bad and personally I like the “villain”. We were given his background story and I was able to understand things from his point of view and his plan was not that convoluted or ridiculous.
To sum up Okami kakushi is not that bad, it’s good. Also don’t watch episode 12, everything is explained after episode 11. Take my word for it; pretend episode 12 does not exist. Okami kakushi is underrated. If you’re bored and want to watch a mystery/horror then Okami kakushi wouldn’t be that bad. Don’t expect anything ground breaking. But it’s better than watching something stupid like Serial Experiments Lain. Oops I forgot I wasn't going to poke fun of at another anime, maybe no one will read this far.
